Speaking of working out; does anyone know when Longo sends out his workout plans to the new recruits? I've always liked lifting and Longo's contribution to this team fascinates me. Mainly because it was blatantly obvious what a difference he's made since the arrival of this current staff. I enjoy fall camp and reading the updated reports on height/weight/muscle gain for the newbies.

It is for an 18 year old.

....If you mean to say he's still not done in terms of physical maturation...I'd say thats probably true.

But 340 is a really nice number regardless of age. To me thats entering the freakishly strong categoy for a RB...

On roster recruits start in January, which would include the five early entry recruits; everybody else comes in some time between the first and second week of June.

Right, but I feel as if the staff sends out a summer workout program that gets the newcomers ready for fall camp. Obviously, they're not working out w/ the team. But my thought was that it's a program they follow on their own before they get to campus. Is this not the case?

That's how they did it at my college, so I am pretty sure ND does the same thing. Its on the kids to do the work outs. I know some of us would get together over the summer to do work outs and prepare for the conditioning test. Just players holding players accountable. ND seems to have a dedicated group of kids coming in that I feel confident will work their asses off during the summer.

Thanks. This was my understanding as well. I recall first learning of it when Tuitt's class came in. Most of the freshmen that year came in prepared to compete. It was the first time I remember that happening in my recent memory. It seems to have become a trend every since. It's a very good thing and I'm glad it happens. I was just curious if anyone happened to know some specifics of that workout. Just out of curiosity and for sake of discussion.

No, freshmen are on campus during the whole summer taking a few prerequisite calculus and English classes in addition to working out with the team and Longo. At, least that's what I remember Eifert and Goodman having to do. I am pretty sure that the recruits get their Longo workout program when they commit and are expected to follow this schedule so that they are physically ready once they step on campus in the summer. That is probably why Springmann and Eifert would always do different/more intense workouts than the rest of us when we would work out together for team lifting.

Yeah, on their high school team. I played with Eifert, Goodman, and Springman at Dwenger and remember some of the workouts that they had to do to get ready for summer camp which leads me to believe that they got their workout programs when they committed.

once they commit...i remember butler tweeting something about receiving his workout layout from longo a long long time ago around when he committed....i was hoping he was going to actually post about it but he didn't...needless to say i was disappointed

here is a little write up on Longo and workouts

Thanks for the info. Is it me, or does that seem kind of odd that he'd send out a workout when they verbal, rather than when they sign the LOI? I guess the earlier they get started, the better, but still...

The thing that may get missed here is Longo's value as an "evaluator." Paul Longo evaluates each of these young recruits and sets up a program individualized for them to reach specific goals. That is a big part of the secret of rapid player development.

At my HS (going back to my FB playing days in the mid 80s), almost everyone of any substance was in the 150% club (benching 150% of their weight). The real target was to be in the 200% club, and several were. 340 puts him at 179%. Very, very, good, but not freakish if he's still 190. If memory serves, our starting RB and DB benched 205% of his body weight (believe he was about 180-185) benching close to 400. Now i did think that was freakish.
