I have a feeling this has Deontay Greenberry written all over it. A NSD flop type thing. I'm sure I will be wrond, I usually am. I just want to hear something from the horses mouth. Not a reporter saying he is "hearing" things

I am with you, something does not feel right about this guy. Don't get me wrong I want him at ND however seems like he is looking around a little to much.

Completelllyyyyyyy different situation that Greenberry guys. The only things that could be comparable are the feeling it gives you and a decreasing possibility of both not being ND players. Other than that they really aren't related.

The TV was very positive today but I'm going to hold off until he says something. So until then I will consider him someone looking around do if he does commit to Auburn, it won't sting as much

I mean not to be silly but Auburn is nowhere near where Folston lives and with Auburn's "history" we shouldn't discount any possibilities here. A wise recruitnik once told me when you see crazy flips and befuddling decisions around this time of year don't try to understand it. Maybe he just likes the coaches, maybe he likes the environment, maybe they are going to give him a duffel of cash. In two weeks we'll know one way or another where he actually stands.

But the distance excuse is BS.

This. The distance means little. A cop out if a flip does take place.

Didn't it come down to ND and Oregon? Florida to Oregon? Distance.... really?

His HS coach says he is done taking visits, per Sapp

This could actually be a good thing for ND. I mean he committed to ND just recently he had to of thought that through before he made that announcement. So maybe he took his visit to Auburn, and wasn't overly impressed. I actually lived in Auburn for a few years just recently, the campus is really nice, just as Notre Dames, but outside of that it's a very very small downtown with only a handful of bars, really not a whole lot to do in town. I enjoyed living there and all, but I wasn't in 'ah' of the campus and the area.

So maybe he figured he's not going to waste his time anymore with visits since he's already committed to ND and is happy with his decision. I'm sure it's pretty bad a$$ to take these visits, but the pain to get on a plain and fly to all these states and then have to take another 3 or 4 hour car ride to get to the campus, it's got to be exhausting after awhile. I.E Atlanta Airport is almost 3 hours from Auburn with not much country side to see during the drive.

Just another thought in regards to his comment; that he's not taking anymore visits.

I think a 7 hour drive within the South and its culture is a lot different than a 17 hour drive to another region of the country. I wouldn't discount it altogether. I guarantee you he hears people talk about how the SEC is the only real conference about 100 times per day.

And this is based on NOTHING at all, but ...

I wonder if he decided he needed to visit an SEC school--just to keep his options open--because of the Manti situation. The Alabama fans where I live were pretty nice about the NC blowout, but they were absolutely ruthless about the Manti debacle. Folston could have gotten overwhelmed, lacking perspective about how these things take a few days to blow over.

Things have cooled down considerably at this point and his friends have probably backed-off a lot.

The above post is brilliant and has my heartfelt endorsement.

(Why can't I be smart enough to think stuff like that.)

It is unfathomable to me that a school with Auburn's reputation would ever consider doing something like this.

The school never does it, someone untraceable does . . .

I was avoiding using italics but I can see how it may have seemed like I was serious. I put no type of deceit beyond any SEC school's boosters, except perhaps those of Vandy or Kentucky.

But I am serious. In some of these places there are boosters with bags of cash, who would shoot other boosters in the back, just to give their bags to a player like Folston.

No, I believe you. These people are mentally ill. This is the state where people actually poison 200 year old historic trees simply because their rival loves them.

Well I take back some of what I said in the above post. Sounds like distance might be a real factor and we still have some work to do with the parents... crossing my fingers here. Going to be an interesting two weeks. Could go really well or really sucky.

Maybe he didn't do well in geography and didn't realize Notre Dame wasn't in the south. I just don't get how distance becomes a factor weeks after you commit. Shouldn't it have been a factor when you were on your OV?

Forgive my ignorance, but Scout doesn't list Folston as an ND commit when you look him up. Is this an oversight on the "by position" page, or do they remove his "Committed to ND" tag if he visits somewhere/looks shaky?

EDIT: NVM, he's listed as a "soft verbal" on the team page. Should've completed my research first.

By all accounts its his family - not Folston - that is uneasy with the distance aspect of it all.

This is off topic and surely in the wrong thread.

That said, maybe this is why Kelly said a stipend should be given to kids (or one aspect of it). It wouldn't be much, but think about it: 3-5 grand a semester for these kids would go a long way. Imagine, Folston gets $3,000 a semester as a living stipend. That could easily cover travel for a good amount of home games for his family, coming from FL.

This kind of stuff could bode well for a school like ND. A random rant, but just a thought.

Stipend should cover the student's cost of living..... Not travel for family.

How about a "stipend" of a free education for being good at football?

Does that seem fair? Ya know, for getting your college education paid for, for being athletically gifted

Edit: not meant to attack you WakeUp, I just am flabbergasted by the thought of collegiate athletes getting paid ANY sum of money for being amateur athletes, especially the whole while there are kids working and paying their way through the same collegiate experience

Parents getting nervous about sending their son out into the world. If he is okay with it then the coaches just need to soothe the parents. Nothing wrong there. Not calling him a homebody but at some point the cord has to be cut.

Gotta make the parents feel comfortable in sending him to a place where they know he will be taken care of.

As for the stipend, yes, they should get a stipend.

That would be fine, expect when the are selling Eifert Jersey #80 jerseys I think the kid should get his cut. #80 isn't popular because of the numbers 8 & 0. Just sayin.
