The best one in will be the starter next year. I do expect that Gunner is going to lay it all on the line but don't expect Golson to go down with out a fight.

True story: GK and his father are on my flight right now. During our layover in Atlanta, I talked to them for a little bit. Real nice guys, and I respected their privacy by not talking too much about the team or gushing for a photo or something. Very upbeat after last night, we all kind of agreed "what can you do?"

Nothing special, just thought I'd share.

If GK can throw the deep ball better and be somewhat mobile enough to roll out, he could supplant EG or at least take some playing time away.

99% sure GK had a faster 40 time that EG.

Probably just not as quick in changing direction, but I don't know.

From Bruce Feldman's mail bag today:

From @PaulPabst: Will Gunner Kiel stay at Notre Dame?

My instincts are telling me that no, the former blue-chip QB recruit who de-committed from first Indiana and then LSU before signing with Notre Dame, will at some point transfer out of ND for a better chance to play. After all, Everett Golson still has three more seasons of eligibility remaining and figures to only strengthen his grip on the Irish QB job. Meaning that Kiel might have to wait till 2016 before he can get the job.

But when I spoke to Kiel for awhile last week, he said all the right things to indicate that he's going to be patient and see how things develop. Kiel talked about what “an honor” and “privilege” it's been for him to be a part of this ND team and how much of a learning experience it all has been.

“I feel like I've gotten a ton better since when I first arrived,” Kiel told me. “I didn't understand the terminology, the signals or coverages. I've made huge strides. I couldn't have asked for better coaches and the quarterbacks have helped the most. We push each other to get better.

“I just have to be patient and strive to get better each day and realize that anything can happen. I hear that the talk a lot (that I'm gonna transfer) and people are going to have their opinions and are gonna talk, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what's best for me and I've gotta get better.”

We heard something similar from Phillip Sims about a year ago at the same time, and he ended up leaving Alabama for Virginia, but obviously, only time will tell.

Incidentally, Kiel did a very good job diffusing any connection to that odd Les Miles recruiting stuff. “The whole thing with Coach Miles and me not making up my mind is kinda funny to look back and think about how dumb and immature I was and how sloppy I was with the recruiting process,” he said. “But at the same time, I thought I was just doing what I thought was best for me. I can't get mad at what Coach Miles for what he did because I probably would've done the exact same thing. I respect him and I still think the world of him. I'm not gonna throw him under the bus. I still respect him and I love coach (Steve) Kragthorpe. They were so good to my family.”

I'm hearing some not-so-good things regarding Gunner's future (or lack thereof) at Notre Dame

Brace yourself for some neg reps if you post something like this and then disappear.

Go on...................... Is that it?

People around Columbus (Gunner's hometown) generally believe he will transfer from Notre Dame if he does not see significant playing time next season. Transferring after this school year is still on the table but not all that likely. As of now, they believe his most likely transfer destination is a particular SEC school with a new coach.

Stop being cryptic. Which school? More than one fits the criterium.

What people? How do you know these people and how do they know Gunner and his future plans? This is all very inadmissible at this point.

Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee are the only SEC schools with new coaches. Auburn would make the most sense given Malzahn's reputation as an offensive genius.

Anywho, thanks for sharing roo. I'd be shocked if Gunner doesn't get a shot in 2013; Golson isn't a big kid, so he's bound to get knocked out of a game or two along the way. If he lives up to his billing, he'll win the job easily.

Sounds like Tenny to me, the Brigadier being General Neyland (as many posted while I was reading and posting).

Well I just brought to the table information that a bunch of people around here seem to care about. Stop taking this **** so seriously, I was just trying to let everyone know some info I had heard and people freak about how I choose to share it.

You could have said "rumor has it that Gunner may transfer to Tennessee at some unknown point in the future according to some anonymous people in/or around Columbus" instead of all that other stuff.

Not surprised in the least bit.

Why would Gunner transfer?

Why does he have to wait until Golson is out of eligibility?

I have nothing against Golson but he wasn't impressive at all and don't give me this crap that he got ND to the national championship game and other than biased ND fans that can't look at the team objectively aren't impressed in the least with Golson.

There are some of us Goldon Domers who see what actually is rather than what others see through the blue and gold tinted glasses.

Golson seems like a great kid but he did nothing that warrants that he's the man, ND rode the front 7 of the defense to the national championship, the offense was never better than decent and that proves out his his ho-hum stats.

My point is that if it was another team that rode there defense to the NC game with Golson at the helm for the offense next to no ND fans would be claiming how good that QB is.

So really why would Gunner transfer now as it makes no sense to me as he's not stuck behind a top QB let alone a QB that's only from 1 class ahead of him like Golson is. In fact I'm not sure if Golson would rank as one of the top 50 QB's in college. Now if was behind Gunner was stuck behind Manziel it would make some sense as that is a QB that had 47 TD's with 9 INT'sm, Mariota with 37 TD's with 6 INT's Bridgewater who had 28 TD's to 8 INT's or Braxton Miller with 28 TD's and 6 INT's, then that would be a different story but he's behind Golson who didn't impress me at all with his consistent late passes that led to a total of 18TD's and 6 INT's.

I support and root for Golson as he's my teams QB but I'm not going to lie to myself and say that he's anywhere near the class of those I've mentioned and if you can't see the massive difference then there is no point in arguing the point because it's night and day.
