If true, I'm hoping BK is doing this to get ND to open the pursestrings for himself but also for his other coaches. If ND is a top college job, it should pay like a top job so that its coaches are not tempted by anything but exceptional opportunities.

Just my opinion but I just don't see BK being a successful NFL coach and I think he knows it.

If true, he confirmed that it is possible to win and recruit at ND and the next coach will have a pretty good core of guys to work with and build on.

Just got a text that said Eagles announcing Kelly tomorrow, and BK agreed during BCS prep.

Somebody with REAL knowledge confirm this?

Multiple things. I'll tell one story as an example.

Bookstore basketball finals or semi-finals (I don't remember). He and a couple other football players are playing against 5 non-varsity athletes. Some of the other teams dorm friends are watching the game and are yelling while he takes a free throw. After bricking the shot Kuntz turns to them and goes "How much are you paying to go to school here dickweed. I'll see you after the game"

Just an example of how much he didn't gel with other students. From what I know many of his own teammates disliked him.

This and he was a terrible bum on the gridiron.

Anyone who had to grow up with the name Kuntz has a right to be angry.

Why couldn't Kelly wait until after signing day to go on vacation?

"I hope you had a hell of a p-i-s-s (vacation), Arnold(Brian)"

What is so irritating about this that Kelly could have gotten leverage without this going public. Letting this get out was either a mistake or just dumb.

If Kelly picks up the phone and tells Swarbrick he's going to talk to the Eagles, the message is sent, Swarbrick knows what he has to deal with and the negotiating begins, behind the scenes.

The fact this went public with all of the potential recruiting problems it may create tells me that it was a mistake or an awful strategy.

The other possibility is that there is some serious interest here on Kelly's part and he's not too worried about the impact on ND. I don't think that's a case but a week ago I would have bet money he was solid Notre Dame for the near future.

I will also say based on last week's comments and this week's events(Eagles), I'm not nearly as a big believer in Kelly as I was.

The most puzzling thing about all this is why a head coach at a major FBS school shares the same agent as a couple of sports writers

Screw you Brian Kelly. Even if this is just a money move, screw you for the kids (like AA) who you left shocked and clueless.

If BK leaves then BK leaves. It is what is and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not going to get upset about something I have no control over and is likely just a result of the ESPN hype machine.

I mean Chip Kelly was DEFINITELY GOING to the NFL until he didn't. Nick Saban had "unfinished business in the NFL" and was going back until he wasn't. Les Miles was going to Arkansas until he didn't. Just let it play out and whatever happens will happen no matter how much we freak out about it.

This is a silly comment that shows that you don't even know the timeline of how everything happened. When we are rolling again next year, we'll see how much you hate him then.

I doubt that it was BK that let it out into the public. If you want to interview for leverage, you have to actually show up to the interview. That means a ton of people know about it (not to mention agents) and will use that info for their desired purpose.

The thing is, if BK felt that he couldn't get the things he needed without leverage, then interviewing is his leverage. You cant just tell Jack Swarbick, "I want ____, or I will interview for other jobs", because he will simply call your bluff. BK obviously didn't want there to be anything left to question. Just my $.02.

The weirdness of BK lacking a real connection to any coaching tree hurts him with regard to a NFL jump. Can't think of another guy who got to the level he is at all by himself. It's very unique how isolated he is from the rest of the coaching world.

this is admirable if you ask me.

he's a self made man.

hes not part of any other coaches "tree" like damn near every coach out there. he hasnt rode anyone's coattails to get whrehe got. he is the tree.

downside of this is he has no real mentors/sages to rally advise him as a friend in all this....probabaly just his agent.

I don't hate Brian Kelly. I just hate this move in interviewing and keeping the kids in the shade who are two days away from enrolling. This is a man who said he won't leave and now he is interviewing. How can a kid who was a coinflip of decommitting enroll to a school after that? I would feel the same way if Lane Kiffin or any other coach did this.
