I want the Robinson twins
Irish Illustrated @NDatRivals
Would definitely change some things in the numbers game.
with max now in the fold....is the conventional wisdom now that we can add 2 more and still have carlo and fox back next yr?
or is it just one more?
no more?
DeMarcus Robinson is next and he will be an EE.
Got to thinking-- if ND doesn't get AQM (or even EV), would anybody's feelings be hurt if ND shut it down and didn't get another commit for '13?
I think AQM and EV are both guys to sign no matter what. Prevot, Hollins, Larue are all good players, but I'm not sure that they're kids you can't pass up or must get. Calabrese could come back and the staff would end up with an extra 1 or 2 scholarships for next year's class if the staff shut it down now. A big part of me thinks Okwara will end up as a Cat anyway (Spond, Councell, and Smith at Dog), making the depth there Shembo, Williams, Okwara?, Randolph? And aren't there a couple guys kind of in ILB/OLB limbo like Rabassa? Plus add in a guy or 2 in next year's class.
Discuss.
I would still definitely want to add at least one guy. Hollins, Prevot, LJ Moore, LaRue, Hutchings, etc. are all guys I think you try to take if you have a spot.
to an already crowded position group? Overloading creates problems.Part of me wants to be a douchebag and cut someone like Bama to make room for some of these guys...I'm feeling selfish wondering who might get left out if we don't have room.
QB not recruited by Kelly to WR and torn ACL), Lo Wood (achilles injury to a depth player), and a handful of others who you can probably figure out looking at a depth chart and then considering potential recruits in this class or the next.If Slaughter is coming back, we allegedly only have room for one "elite" recruit (Vanderdoes). If he's not, we've got room for an additional recruit, but does it make sense to take the best available when that means adding a low-to-mid 4to an already crowded position group? Overloading creates problems.
We're currently at 17/16 for both WR/RB and CB/S (18/16 if Slaughter returns). Moore, Larue, and Robinson all exacerbate that problem.
Hollins, Prevot or Hutchings would make sense if Randolph and Rabasa end up moving inside. If not, OLB is already at 8/8 (all very talented), so adding any of the above will overload that position as well.
Well, we're still clearly targeting other WRs so we're not "full" there. And I think LJ Moore works only if you plan to use Redfield as an outside WR. Who is Robinson? The twins? don't see that happening at all. Also don't see Moore happening in almost any scenario... but I think it makes sense.
And also it's worth pointing out that a couple guys I'm assuming you're counting on in those position groups could almost be considered dead weight. Lo Wood had an incredibly serious injury... who knows how he comes back from that. Chris Badger is nowhere close to being a contributor at safety. Massa is counted as a WR. And it remains to be seen with a lot of other skill position guys whether or not they're capable of playing championship caliber football whether due to injury or a lack of talent.
So versatile multi-position guys like LaRue always have some value.
Agreed..... no injury and he would be our starter this season. It wasn't to damn long ago that some here felt that J. Goodman was "dead weight" along these parts.
I think it's silly to write these guys off before they hit their stride, if they ever do of course, but let's be patient.
We're writing off Lo Wood already?
Lax, come on man.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that sometimes even if you are at 8/8 on the depth chart, your team's needs haven't been filled.
at an already crowded (if not technically "full") position group when there are positions of genuine need? There will be plenty of room if Prevot/Vanderdoes/Robinson/Larue want to come. All 4...no...but a combo of 2 of them yes. 3 is a huge stretch. Numbers game. After Monday...guys will leave to go pro or comeback. There will be at least 1 transfer from what I am told, and thats not even counting if someone goes on medical. Sure its a selective process with it being a numbers game, but ND is already using the pressure game. A repeat of last year isn't going to happen, and they are taking the proper steps to ensure that doesnt happen.

I know this is not going to get answered, but since we're all thinking it.... WHO WHO WHO???
Sounds like Hendrix. It makes sense if he wants to play.
If you look down the roster there are a few other guys who are good players but may not fit our scheme, like Utupo. Then their are a couple of log jam positions, like safety.
Hendrix makes sense and I'd hate to see it happen, but mostly for him. Gotta figure he's 3rd on the depth chart at best next year and he could definitely start somewhere.

That's so mean. Is it someone who people already suspect might transfer? Or will this blow us away?
From Eric Hansen Notebook....
Hendrix ponders future
Andrew Hendirix emerged from spring practice perhaps the slight favorite to win the Notre Dame starting quarterback job in August, then started and finished the 2012 season as the No. 3 option for the Irish behind starter Everett Golson and former starter Tommy Rees.
“Everett did a great job this year,” the junior from Cincinnati Moeller High said. “You can’t argue with 12-0, you really can’t. Tom’s come in and done a fantastic job when he’s been called on.
“Obviously, you’d like to play a little more on the field, but to see where this team is going, it’s hard to be anything but so pleased with where we are right now.”
And in the future?
“It’s hard to say,” he said. “Right now I’m just doing the best with the situation that I’ve been dealt right now. I’m only two plays away from playing, being the guy in the national championship game, and I’ve prepared like that’s the case.
“It’s hard to think big picture when there’s all this going on right now, and after the season I’ll assess where I am. It’d be hard to leave this team with a year left. Obviously, I would take that into consideration, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. The coaches will be honest with me about where I stand. They always have been.”
Makes the most sense to me....He will not see the field next year.
