ESPN just showed a clip of Barrett Jones saying the he is close to 100% and will be 100% by Monday. If that's the case five days away, my guess is that even if he is correct he will no longer be 100% after the first series against Big Lou. If not, he's been shot up real good.

DAVIE, Fla. — Everett Golson was much more vocal Thursday than he was in fall camp, naturally. That was one of the first things that jumped out during the media's first viewing of Notre Dame practice since August.

Here are a few other notes and observations from Nova Southeastern University — the practice facility of the Miami Dolphins — as media members were allowed to watch the first 15 minutes, which consisted mostly of tempo drills. (Defense was on an opposite field, so the offense received most of the visitors' attention.)

•DaVaris Daniels looks pretty much recovered from the broken left clavicle he suffered Nov. 10 at Boston College, as he was active throughout. Offensive coordinator Chuck Martin jumped on the redshirt freshman at one point, telling him if his running wasn't better on a particular route, then the Irish would have no chance.

•Freshman quarterback Gunner Kiel, normally No. 1, was wearing a No. 10 jersey to play the role of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron on the scout team.

•Head coach Brian Kelly alluded to depth concerns on the offensive line, and he wasn't kidding. The second-team offensive line consisted, from left to right, of Nick Martin, Conor Hanratty, Mark Harrell, Bruce Heggie and an unidentified walk-on wearing No. 76. (Hanratty and Harrell were both wearing No. 65, too.) Tate Nichols (knee) and Ronnie Stanley (elbow) have been out, as has Matt Hegarty for a non-football medical issue.

Two friends of my mine. One of them is a huge bandwagon Bama fan and the other is not an ND fan but is a major SEC hater, decided to make a bet. Loser has to drink a bottle of the other team's hot sauce. Not necessarily the whole bottle but to the point they are unable to continue. They don't have the hot sauce yet but have ordered it in time for Monday. They want me another friend to get in on it. Call me a wuss but I backed out.

You mean like this Miami fan after we whipped them?

Bama going with pro-combat uni's for the NC game. Here is the look. SIAP.

Nike Unveils Alabama’s Innovative Uniform System for BCS Title Game | NiceKicks.com

did you see some of the comments...i got a good laugh at these ones after a couple of bama fans posted about them..

" I could name a few Adidas schools with better unis than this... Texas A&M, being one. (see what I did there?)"

lmao Nike can get the public to believe anything. "new tech" = poking holes in stuff.

I like Bod Diaco interviews like the one in South Bend on December.

"If you let them run it on you at will and throw it over your head you are gonna lose."
Bob Diaco

No Bob I had no idea that letting Alabama run the ball with no resistance, and allowing them to complete bombs was a path to defeat.

My second greatest wish for the early part of next week is a repeat of this.

Seriously. I had never heard one until today. It was surprising how unlike a coach he spoke. You know, with real emotions and candid remarks.

#NotreDame ran with some triple-option principles in goal-line 'O', with Theo Riddick, Cierre Wood and Everett Golson in backfield.

If it wasn't a blown snap, then media walked in and on second FG attempt of open viewing, #NotreDame ran a fake, passing to Troy Niklas.

Finally. I have wanted to see this. But if we run it we better be prepared for it and have sufficiently practiced it.

We have ran option plays throughout the year. Adding another RB to the packages they are already familiar with shouldn't complicate things too much.

Btw, it really is ridiculous how many different looks we can come out with in this game. Our offense should be able to throw wrinkles out there for Bama that they simply couldn't have prepared for.

Little known factoid: ND giving up TDs on only 24.4 percent of opponent red zone chances is the lowest in the FBS the past 8 years.

From some AL twitter accounts:
Notre Dame WR T.J Jones on Bama: "They're without doubt the best defense we'll see this season" says front 7 one of nation's best.

Alabama DC Kirby Smart: "I have become who I have become as a coach from working with coach Saban."

Smart says Alabama hasn't faced a tight end as talented as talented as ND's Tyler Eifert.

Kirby Smart says this is one of his favorite defenses because of low expectations from, he says, the media. Played with chip on shoulders.

Kirby Smart; "I have the best non head coaching job in the country."

RB Theo Riddick likes ND matchup w/ Bama DBs. Dee Milliner counters: "They think we're the weak link. Hopefully they'll try to exploit us."

Kirby Smart on Nick Saban: "There is no question he is driven to be the greatest coach in the game."

Notre Dame OC Chuck Martin and QB Everett Golson with a definite underdog chip on their shoulders.

Notre Dame OC Chuck Martin: They've been told 12 straight weeks they weren't good enough to get this far. We're sitting in front of you guys

ND QB Everett Golson: We as a team want to make a statement being that we were counted out from the beginning of the year.

ND confidence: OC Chuck Martin notes that Brian Kelly won DII NC at Grand Valley with a frosh QB. That QB won 3 national titles in 4 years.

Everett Golson of course is a redshirt freshman. Chuck Martin: We're hoping history repeats itself.

Good news for you guys:

Reports are that yesterday AL had a poor showing at practice. B. Jones called a players only meeting to address a "lack of focus."

Just goes to show you never know what kind of stupid stuff goes through the mind of an 18-22 year old.

Actually I think this is a positive moreso a negative.

When leaders assemble the team to talk about focus, it means they understand tempo and rhythm. They understand the difference is in preparation.

That's a bad thing for ND in that you would rather have unfocused group to play against that doesn't know better.

I agree with you 100% on this johnnykillz.

Now that being said players only meetings have almost never been successful in my observations or my experience. However players only meetings can be a quick fix and we don't have much longer to go. Usually if you are having a players only meeting week 4 it means a long season.

On the bright side we don't have that much longer to go (yes I just contradicted myself). I doubt Jones would call a players only meeting for one bad practice it likely means a couple poor practices. Both teams finish practicing on Saturday I believe.

Not buying it. Clearly misinformation from Nick "Goebbels" Saban intended to generate complacency in the Irish.

Seems to me the players only meetings are a 50-50 toss up as to working or not. I like it if it's true, because it means they aren't into it and the emotion derived from a meeting three days before the game will start to fade. If we can get the early lead that makes it even better.

If Saban is leaking a fake story just to get ND to be complacent then he truly is a cerebral assassin.

Yes players only meetings are a mixed bag in terms of success. At best they are a bandaid to a problem. That is why NFL teams that have players only meetings week 5 don't make the players it is only a short term fix and the team usually reverts back to its problems. Now we only have 3 days so it is unknown rather things can be bandaged until then. This is assuming there is even an issue per Whiskey's point. I say since we don't know if there is an issue or not we should consider the story irrelevant.

Personally I find it hard to believe Nick Saban wouldn't be able to correct issues of poor preparation before the need for a players only meeting arised.
