The NFL has been placing a premium on edge pass rusher thats why Clowney will be taken so high. The comparison between clowney, Nix, and Eddie isn't very relevant because Eddie will never be Clowney in any system. Also Star Lotulelei will be a top ten pick maybe top 5, not too shabby. Hiloti Ngata got 40 million in the first two years of his contract. I bet eddie would love that.

Not sure of the quality of website but this is worth a look.

The thing is, if Eddie came to ND I doubt he would play exclusively NT. Kona came in as a DE and still lines up there sometimes. Day was considered a DT before college, if I'm not mistaken, and he is primarily a DE for us. He and EV are about the same size. Springmann lines up both places. Tuitt of course can play on the nose in pass rush situations. It seems that other than Nix, we don't have any pure NTs, and we don't seem to be recruiting any (probably because, as people on the board have pointed out, such players are rare).

I think the goal is to have guys who can play both spots. Nix is back next year, but it seems to me that we are going to have a NT-by-committee in future years, with Day, Springmann, Jarron Jones and hopefully EV variously lining up at both DE and NT. EV may have to take his turn on the nose but he will have plenty of chances to run around and make tackles, just like Day has. Hopefully he realizes that he's not giving up very much by playing in a 3-4, and that whatever he does give up is outweighed by playing on one of the country's top defenses.

Edge rushers will rule the NFL because the NFL has gone so pass happy. Teams that can pass, pass block, and pass rush are the teams that win in the NFL.

The priority in the NFL seems to be QBs, OL, and DL. If you have impact guys in those areas you are an elite team in the NFL regardless of the rest of your team.

As the NFL has become more QB-centric, teams are paying top dollar for elite pass rushers (regardless of where they line up). How much is Suh's contract with the Lions worth?

My point is that Vanderdoes is similar to Clowney (and Aaron Lynch) in that he's a rare and freakishly talented pass rusher. He has the same strong incentive as the other two to play in a system that will allow him to showcase his talents on every down; not just passing downs.

Not trying to be rude but as a pure pass rusher Eddie V at this point isn't even in that conversation. Again as a pure pass rusher not the same player as those two. Eddie V had 9 sacks this year. Clowney had 29.5 his senior year.

The priorities are QB, pass rushers(dl or olb), cover corners and LT 's.

at 6'3" 305 lbs, he could easily put on a few more lbs and be identical to NIX, if not a little more lean. I see him as a NT.

For some reason i had no idea he is at 305......and the kid still moves like that. Thats crazy

How many of those were against Golson in the SC Champ game?

This kid is gonna be good but I think he would be a star here. He already has the size and would be in the DL rotation from day 1. Hope the staff can find a way to pull this one off.

Yep he would be a star at ND.

My reasoning.

Mike Elston>>>Ed Orgeron
Bob Diaco>>>Next USC DC
Brian Kelly>>>Lane Kiffin
ND>>>USC

Those are some pretty solid reasons. Just looking at him though, would be ideal 3-4 DE here that has the skill to move inside. Man, would be too stoked if we landed Eddie!

So what is the latest staus with Big Ed?

- He's visiting sometime in Jan right?
- USC still has the last visit?

Yes, it's partly this versatility that has me stoked. His upside in our D is off the charts.

Don't think anything has changed off that. I've seen in more than one place that as long as Ed is there as the defensive line coach, Vanderdoes is going to USC. Hope the staff can open his eyes on his visit.

From what I've seen he has sincere interest in visiting ND but hasn't officially scheduled any visit yet. Still think we are on the outside looking in and need that visit to change that

Only in the first half . . .

I read an article recently where Clowney was asked about it and he said he couldn't believe EG kept getting up.
On the play that ended up being the winning TD, Clowney was chasing EG all over the field before he threw the winning TD. Had nothing but praise for Everett.

If you want to know what kind of champion we have at quarterback, watch that game. He undid Clowney in the second half.

So, does that mean they're still getting his last visit?
