I'm going tonight and I'm shocked at the lack of comments from this board!

That's exactly how I feel about these films.... But I have a short wife who kindof looks like the elf chick in the first three... Maybe the whole hobbit/elf thing hits too close to home? Lol... Either way... Have fun

Some 30 years ago one of my grade school teachers read the book to our class with great enthusiasm... I seen all the others it's just this one is burned in my memory a different way. I would hate to ruin the years of a youths imagination...

ACamp the hater...

I love the books and I enjoy seeing it brought to life. Nothing compares to a book, but I'll be going to see this for sure. Peter Jackson does a very good job.

Going to see it tonight, nothing can top lord of the rings but this will still be solid. I know for a fact the scope of it isn't nearly as large as Lord of the Rings

After this thread and the man of steel thread im convinced ACAMP hates every single movie. Im with you on the fact that the majority of movies Hollywood puts out are complete crap but their are films that still are worth the the price of admission. Like I said in the last thread, go see killing them softly because I have faith you will enjoy it. I know I did

How long is that hobbit? I keep getting different time lengths from different sites, I do know LORD OF THE RINGS were all roughly three hours long

Agreed that Peter Jackson does a good job...my only gripe was a serious casting error. Unless memory serves me incorrectly (it's been a while since I've read these books) Galadriel was supposed to be a smoking hot Elf Queen and Pete Jackson casts Cate Blanchett...wtf?

Cate Blanchett? Really?

I've heard mixed things. The LOTR trilogy was so epic, it's going to be hard to have The Hobbit live up to it... I'm especially interested/intrigued/worried to see how Jackson is going to handle taking one book and making it three movies. I don't understand how or why he did that, but we'll see I guess.

I first read the Hobbit in 2nd grade. It was the first real novel I ever read, and had a huge impact on me.

I had an issue with that, too. She pulls off Galadriel's demeanor well, but her bulbous nose just doesn't belong on an Elven face.

Tolkein wrote a lot of backstory for LotR that wasn't in the Hobbit-- the Necromancer moving into Mirkwood, Gandalf's travels, etc. He's pulling all of that stuff into the trilogy; not just the content of the Hobbit.

I must be sheltered as I know little to nothing about the hobit, book or movie. But I did rent TED for the night.

Right, I'm just wondering how it will play out, considering The Hobbit was also one of the first books I read and thus is pretty ingrained in my memory as well.

I tried...several times. But I just couldn't get through it.

LOTR was a life-changing set of books form (long story) and I am taking the family tomorrow. Its broken into two movies though, right?

It was supposed to be two, now it's three. I assume because the production company wants another billion dollars in revenue. Hell they had enough footage to make LOTR six movies...

I just went and watched the hobbit tonight. I cant help but feel a bit disappointed simply because it felt so different than lord of the rings. I get that it is its own story but everything about it felt so different. The amount of CGI was way over the top for me and they could have cut out roughly 15 minutes and it would have made a huge difference. I still liked it but as lord of the rings and the hobbit were large parts of my childhood I feel slightly disappointed

1. I've read the Silmarillion

2. Just saw the movie

3. Visually stunning. I saw the High Resolution 3d version. Well worth the extra 5 bucks

4. Had no idea they were going to make this a trilogy

5. Read the book about 10 years ago and remembered nothing but the troll scene.

6. Great movie, but had a different feel from the other ones

I think this is the one that explains just how technically amazing The Hobbit is:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4x-QfizS9S4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Shot in 5k resolution (compared to 1080p), which is I think as clear as your eyes see, and with 48fps, double the usual 24fps that films have been using since the 1920s. Then they go on and talk about how it's the first truly 3D movie ever, which brand new unique cameras... I dunno, just watch haha
