I love the books and I enjoy seeing it brought to life. Nothing compares to a book, but I'll be going to see this for sure. Peter Jackson does a very good job.
Agreed that Peter Jackson does a good job...my only gripe was a serious casting error. Unless memory serves me incorrectly (it's been a while since I've read these books) Galadriel was supposed to be a smoking hot Elf Queen and Pete Jackson casts Cate Blanchett...wtf?
Cate Blanchett? Really?
I've heard mixed things. The LOTR trilogy was so epic, it's going to be hard to have The Hobbit live up to it... I'm especially interested/intrigued/worried to see how Jackson is going to handle taking one book and making it three movies. I don't understand how or why he did that, but we'll see I guess.
I first read the Hobbit in 2nd grade. It was the first real novel I ever read, and had a huge impact on me.
I had an issue with that, too. She pulls off Galadriel's demeanor well, but her bulbous nose just doesn't belong on an Elven face.
Tolkein wrote a lot of backstory for LotR that wasn't in the Hobbit-- the Necromancer moving into Mirkwood, Gandalf's travels, etc. He's pulling all of that stuff into the trilogy; not just the content of the Hobbit.
You read "The Simarillion."
I must be sheltered as I know little to nothing about the hobit, book or movie. But I did rent TED for the night.
I tried...several times. But I just couldn't get through it.
LOTR was a life-changing set of books form (long story) and I am taking the family tomorrow. Its broken into two movies though, right?

3. Visually stunning. I saw the High Resolution 3d version. Well worth the extra 5 bucks
