How interested is he playing offense? I see it as a very good thing for ND if USC is already mentioning he probably would see the field sooner as a WR.

I think SC is playing to his desires and not necessarily to his strengths. Truth be told...this guy is going to find his way onto the field on "O" or on "D". Cooks has a great story to tell him.

I think the staff would certainly give him a look if that's what he had his heart set on. Kelly is all about filling needs and putting players in the best position to help the team win. Being 12-0 is what it looks like when players buy into playing for each other.

is it out of the question that max could come to south bend and play WR??

I will always be on the side of caution and say yes. Just can never say never. Who figured K. Russell would have been the starting CB? Ya know.

Love him way more on the defensive side though. Kid is just a stud.

Have you watched his offensive film, though?

Yeah. I certainly won't be upset if he player WR.

A few things pop in my head about it:

1. ND needs to start getting playmakers in the secondary. Would be nice to start a pipeline of playmaking safeties.

2. I think ND is strong in the WR department and don't need to add Redfield to it. Still haven't seen Neal break out, Chris Brown will get more play, Justin Ferguson, and the current crop of recruits.

3. Yes, I understand you can never have enough playmakers but in today's football, I am not to fond of a two way player. I certainly respect the hell out of a guy that does but think he should stick to one side.

Just my thoughts on it.

FYI, we've talked with him about playing WR. It was in an article posted on ISD months a go a believe... maybe just a forum post from one of the staff.

Also kinda funny that Tee Martin... supposedly the guy doing all the selling on this trip... is almost certainly headed to Tennessee and is in fact in Knoxville right now (with his family!) discussing the move.

Its not a matter of whether Redfield can play wr, its a matter of integrity... You have a 5* top 20 in your sights. Do you have the stones to man up and tell him honestly how he fits or do you sell out just to get him on campus? ... Based on BKs prior recruiting i don't think he shut the door on the situation as we can point to several occurrences, but i think he makes it well known that defense is where they want him ... In the end, good recruiting wins out. Might not be with Max, though i.believe it will, but maybe another recruit.... As a former player, i was recruited on both sides, I lovedthe school who built up my potential at OLB rather than the coaches who tried to sell me a prayer and dream

Pump the breaks a little bit though... we talked with him about playing WR. I am 100% positive I have read this on ISD. The spirit of what you're saying is spot on though... our staff talks to people about where they think they fit best and wants versatile people that will play where they can best help the team win championships. Fun fact is that Nick Saban is similar... when recruits come visit he has been known to throw on their film and say "this is what I like, this is what you're bad at, here's how we're going to use you if you come here and you're going to have to fight hard for a spot."

That's what I'm saying. Its ok to have an open and honest conversation about it. Something like "yea we see potential at wr, were defn not against it, but man we really love you in the backfield as a ball hawk. That's our missing piece. You're my Ed Reed." Or something to that effect... Didn't mean to imply BK is not part salesman. He's just the honest kind haha

Max knows where he stands position wise if he came to ND. USC I think if he really breaks it down he will see that he can play WR there, but at the sametime if Tee does leave usc, then who is to say that the new coaches agree or will give him the time Tee did.

Do you know which side of the ball Max prefers? I've seen statements that support either.

James Onwualu said on power hour that he talks to Max often and he expects us to end up with the #1 recruiting class.

Why? Is it because we are full over there? I know he'd be a sick safety, but our WR depth chart is not stacked or anything. He looks like a W or X. If he is good enough to play WR at USC, I would think only DD and TJ would definitly beat him out. Seems like he'd be competing for time with Chris Brown and Will Fuller.

W
Davaris Daniels, 3yrs
Daniel Smith, 2yrs
Justin Ferguson, 3yrs
Corey Robinson, 4yrs
Luke Massa, 2yrs

X
TJ Jones, 1yr
Chris Brown, 3yrs
Will Fuller, 4 yrs
James Onwualu, 4yrs

Z
Davonte Neal, 3yrs
Tori Hunter Jr., 4yrs

You can't put a guy that hits this hard on offense. He's a damn truck. Just my opinion, but he does have the ability to be lined up all over.
