- Avoid emotional penalties.
- Let the D stay true and force Wittek to sustain long drives.
- Run the ball.
- Run the ball some more.

This probably doesn't mean anything, but you never know with that liar of a head coach...

Gary Klein‏@LATimesklein

#USC Matt Barkley just walked into practice. Arm no longer in a sling.

If you could interpret my dream I'd appreciate it: I had a horrible dream last night that we lost to Cher and the NC ended up being Northern Iowa. I don't know how any of this happened or worked out but it left me sad and confused when I woke up.

I would think that we prepare the same for Wittek or Barkley. They have the same skill set. Play calling might change, but I doubt it will by much.

Wittek is much more mobile and athletic than Barkley. He has the potential to be an all around much better qb.

This is my first post so I want to make it a good one. Here's my thoughts on our game vs USC on Saturday. Defense is the most important thing for us. I think we're going to come out just like we did against Oklahoma this year. A "bend but don't break" style defense. We need to make sure we don't give up big plays downfield to Woods and Lee. I think we'll do that by playing our safeties back deep with double teams on there two top playmakers. We can afford to give up plays underneath because of the excellent way our LB's play in coverage. Put that together with the fact that we should be able to put pressure on their freshmen qb, who's starting his first game against the best defense in the country (ouch), and the fact that they have a very weak Center who Louis Nix should eat for breakfast, we look to keep the Trojans to very few points. The only success I see them making with the ball is possibly with their run game (which i doubt as I see Teo having the game of his life), one or two slip ups in deep coverage and possibly in their return game with Marquise Lee. On offense, as long we don't turn the ball over, we shouldn't have any problem at all exposing a fairly untalented USC defense. I think we should be able to run the ball effectively on them, wearing them down as i see us having the ball 75% of the game. I bet they will double team Eiffert with the key matchup being with him and their star safety TJ McDonlad. This will open up things for our good handfull of capable options. I really like the matchup of our Offense against their Defense.
I really see us beating USC, and I can't wait too see the look on Kiffin's face, and Wittek's eyes. Wittek should have kept his yap shut this week. Look for him to take a real beating from Tuitt, Shembo, Nix and Louis-Moore, and for Teo to tear up his pass game through the middle. NOTRE DAME - 31 USC - 10
GO IRISH!!!!!!!

Potential being the key word. Not this Saturday, however.

Agreed, potential is the key word, and Potential is also not a guarentee either. Dayne Crist had the potential to be a great QB at ND and in the NFL, but unfortunately that didn't happen for us. There's a lot of players out there with a lot of potential that don't amount to anything, and there's no guarentee Max will be anywhere near the same QB Barkley. A lot of assuming going on, without any real gametime experience it's impossible to predict anythign with this kid. Come Saturday, we know what we have in our starting QB and even our backup, the unknown may scare some but I'm not one of them. The type of season Barkley has had all year, if this kid had any sign of being a starter, I think he probably would have seen the field a little more this year.

The Freudian in me agrees with Bluto. Sometimes a jalepeño popper is just a popper.

The Jungian in me counsels you to drown your memories, dreams and reflections in alcohol. You'll have the dream but not remember it in the morning.

Cher (as noted by wooly) is one scary bitch. Anxiety and fear would be my guess. Northern Iowa? Might just be an irrational fear – or recollection – of getting lost in a corn maze.

Breathe, drink and lay off the 'shrooms before bed. Save them for after ND takes the NC.

While I had no jalapeno poppers before bed I did have Sleepy Time tea and melatonin so I could be well-rested for my early morning/long day at work (0500-1800).

According to ESPN PickCenter:

ND has a 66% chance of winning. USC 34%

Based off 5 of the strongest game predictors for the last 5 years, they have ND winning 4 of the 5 with the 1/4/11 matchup of OSU vs Ark with OSU winning which is ND in this situation.

Accuscore has ND winning by an average score of 29.3 - 23.0.
TeamRankings has ND winning by an average of 24.6 - 19.7.
numberFire has ND winning by an average of 29.9 - 21.8.

Last 11 games ATS, ND is 6-5 and USC is 3-8.

I'm not quite sure how to interpret this, but you should be ok as long as Chers daughter/son didn't show up anywhere in your dream. :)

As for the Vegas talk. The lines don't always reflect what VEGAS actually thinks. Vegas sets line to try and get equal action on both sides of the game. That doesn't always happen but generally they do a very good job. Vegas uses public perception of teams to set lines more than anything. What's the public perception of Notre Dame? Most say we are overrated, especially going into the Oklahoma game. So Vegas uses that to their advantage. They knew they would get tons of action on both sides. ND backers are always going to take the points or lay the points, which is why ND's lines are sometimes inflated. So when they set the line at 13 their thoughts would be that no matter what happened they were going to get equal action on both sides. The public side that had the perception that ND was overrated and the ND fans. Plus the smart bettors were all over ND +13. I know I was.
Thanks for posting this. Seen versions of this post multiple times in the last couple weeks as people keep complaining about "Vegas" underrating us.

Btw, if the game was at Notre Dame Stadium, we would be 13- to 14-point favorites.

Quotes from Kap leading up to the SC game that many of you have probably seen. This is a man who totally gets it!

“This is every college player's dream."

“Last game of the regular season, a chance to go undefeated against an arch rival and very talented team – it’s going to be a tough contest for us and it’s going to be fun.”

“There’s no extra motivation needed. It’s an arch rival. It’s USC. The last ten years we’ve won only one game so that’s something we need to turn around.”
