If we get left out of NC game, either by losing to USC or just sheer dumb bad luck, I really hope we go to the Rose against Nebraska.

1. We'd be pretty heavy favorites, and I want a win in my BCS game I don't want to have to play some uber talented team while Florida State gets ****ing Louisville or someone like that.
2. There are very few scenarios where we'd ever get to play in the Rose Bowl... so this is a once in a very long time kind of opportunity for ND.

I'm inclined to agree with this logic. Beating an SEC team this year doesn't prove anything to anyone that 12 or 13 wins won't prove. Would be great to see Manti leave with (ideally) a NC, but failing that a solid win in the Rose Bowl. Would cement his legacy as one of ND's all time greats.

What if we play Michigan again in the Rose Bowl?

Just read a Grantland article and I have to echo a sentiment: There is NO WAY that an undefeated Notre Dame team would be left out of the football national championship. The BCS computer would be demolished and replaced before that happened, even if only to cash on on the EXTREME amounts of ad revenue and ticket sales that would accompany that game. The alternative is Kansas State?! GTFOH! This is all irrelavent if ND doesn't beat Wake or USC but in reality a Notre Dame v Oregon title game would be the biggest National Championship of the BCS era and they know it.

At the end of the day....the bottom line is the bottom line. No arrogance, only truth.

And to add another layer...the Orange Bowl committee is running the game this year. *The game still rotates between BCS spots* and the Orange Bowl has the potential to be complete crap with FSU vs UL looking to be a reality. They have some strings that would be in their favor to pull if necessary.

Disagree with this. ESPN owns the rights to all of the games. Therefor, it's in their best interest to have Oregon vs. KSU in the title game with ND vs. someone else in another game. Why? Because ND will draw eyeballs to another game that wouldn't normally get them... whereas the title game is going to draw eyeballs no matter what.

The narrative you're currently seeing from ESPN has been designed as such to encourage the above outcome. Deadspin had an article about something similar just this previous week... about how ESPN is too entangled in other business interests to be even remotely objective.

Makes too much sense. I'm mad at myself for not seeing that.

Some misconceptions about how the BCS works here:

Unless you're aware of some massive brewing conspiracy by the AP voters to jump us over KSU, we aren't making the title game without a KSU or OU loss.

If ND were to win out, the networks would try to get a ND v. 'Bama or ND v. Georgia NCG for nothing more than fanbase, ratings, tradition and $$$. K-State may lose to Texas and Oregon could lose to Stanford and Oregon St. which would leave ND v. SEC Champ (probably 'Bama)

The networks don't determine the match-ups. BCS system determines top 2 for title game, BCS selection committees then pick in order among the next ranked 12. Rose and Fiesta committees pick first. SEC teams won't be playing in either of those bowls, and regardless of what any network wants to televise, the Rose and Fiesta selection committees will not pass up a highly ranked Irish team.

Scenarios, in order of descending likelihood:
(1) ND v. Nebraska in Rose Bowl;
(2) ND v. OU in Fiesta Bowl;
(3) ND v. KSU/ OU in title game;
(4) ND v. 'Bama/ UGA in title game.

I havent heard of any conspiracy theory but ill bet 20 billion vBucks that we jump ahead of K State if we beat out USC and they remain unscathed.

Anyone game?

I also hope we'll have the chance to make this bet...

We are gaining media steam like a motha****a.

In fact, a lot of haters at work are stunned.

One said, "Damn, them Irish are stout. That ND defense is no joke."

To further elaborate, a Trojan fan asked if I wanted to bet his team versus mine in which the winner would wear the other team's jersey to work the next day. I told him, hell I guess. Then he replied, "Hell to the no. Them Irish are gonna take it home."

Believe.

I understand what you are saying but I personally believe that ESPN as well as other establishments would love to see ND lose in an embarrassing fashion with all of the lights shining on them. And also, at the time ND played their schedule, the other teams were ranked higher than the opponents of both KSU and Oregon. I would welcome KSU, Bama or Georgia but I do not think ND can beat Oregon's speed.

Lets take a step back. I don't think I've truly appreciated what were arguing about here. We're arguing over which BCS Bowl we should go to. Isn't that amazing?? It's going to work out. Worse case scenario we end up in the Rose Bowl. That's beautiful.

Hmm posting b0rked? Odd I keep getting an Internal Server Error when I make a long post.

Anyways. The point was we'll be in the Rose vs Nebraska. If UM somehow pulls another miracle out of their ***, the Rose would not Rematch us. The same goes for the Fiesta. The Fiesta is semi-obligated to pick another BIG12 at large eligible team. Therefore the pick order would go:

KSU vs Oregon
Fiesta (1st pick) OU vs LSU/Florida (3rd pick)
Rose Notre Dame (2nd pick) vs Nebraska/Wisconsin
Alabama (SEC Champ) vs ND/Texas A&M
Orange FSU (ACC Champ) vs Lousiville.

If Oregon loses sub Oregon for Rose and bump ND to Sugar. Move A&M to Fiesta with OU.

i just dont understand how any ND fan can be happy/content/satisfied with an undefeated ND team NOT playing in the NC game.

cmon gang-we are ND! are you really happy with a rose bowl berth if we are undefeated? F that, man.

let me ask you this....if your a recruit, thinking about ND, and those other coaches tell you "ND? well its a great school and all but even when they are undefeated they cant even play for an NC...come on down to (insert school here) and play for NC's...blabla" if u dont think that could/would/will happen-your naive.

say your prayers and light a candle for an OU/KSU loss...and 2 more ND wins because to me it would be an emarassment if an undefeated ND team with the schedule we played gets LEFT OUT of a NC game. why are we here? NC's or Bust! that is all we can and should ever want to play for. let michigan try and win the BiG and the rose bowl...we are about winning NC's. we are ND.

ps tiebreaker for any undefeated teams should be the graduation rates :)

The image of Manti Te'o covered in Roses holding the Rose Bowl trophy up to the Notre Dame side of the crowd is sending chills through my body.

I don't think anyone is 'satisfied' with not playing in the title game... but it may happen... life is too short to go all "Bama fan" and let these things ruin your world... Notre Dame will play a big game to end the year, we don't know which yet.

You know, you might be onto something Johnny. We play SC while K State is idle. If we have a convincing enough win over the Trogans we could possibly jump them in the human polls. I don't think it is likely, but I didn't realize that was the case. That K State bye week could be our one chance if all 3 finished undefeated.

I've been saying what Johnny said the entire time. Johnny, as always, is right on point.

Just watch... there is no universe where an undefeated Notre Dame team is kept out of the title game.

Trouble is, K-State plays Texas - a comparable team to USC in many ways - the following week. I guess if we whooped up on USC and they squeaked by Texas we might stay ahead of them. But they'd essentially have a chance to answer whatever we do.
I can't imagine how K-State, with its overblown Big 12 schedule and its 20 fans, would somehow go to the national title game ahead of an undefeated Notre Dame, but that's what it's coming to. We need a loss. Still, I'd bet someone loses.

Great theory, but K-State plays #15 Texas on Dec. 1. They have the final chance to impress (or not impress, or lose).

Common opponents will prevail us in the lead at that point.

The thing that could help us is if Oregon jumps KSU in the computer polls. Then we are #1, Oregon is #2, and KSU is #3. That would probably put us in, and it's not like that's impossible with Oregon St, Stanford, and the Pac-12 South champs left on the schedule.

Which made me think:

Who from IE will be doing the teabagging to a passed-out fan outside a Krystal at whichever bowl game ND does go to?

Off the top of my head, I nominate-- Johnny, Salty, GB, and dshans (the old man balls factor). Irishpat might be a candidate to just do it anyway.
