The paper this morning said if KSU and Oregon win out the Fiesta picks first and would select ND and an SEC team.

That is only if KSU stays in the #1 spot which is unlikely because Oregon's computer ranking will go up if it wins out. If Oregon finishes #1 then the Rose Bowl would have first pick.

Sorry I can't remember where I heard it, but when someone mentioned ND wins ugly, the comment was made, "yeah, but they make you lose ugly". I thought that summed things up pretty well.

We have an office in Georgia. The plant manager down there is a great guy and a huge UG fan. He made the mistake of mentioning ND didn't deserve to be #3 because they barely beat Pitt and tried to show me how UG has a chnace to play in the NCG. After I laid all the favts on him that have been discussed on this thread, his reply was, "Man you need to relax. ND will be in the title game". LOL

I work in Atlanta and the owner of my company is a UGA guy and huge fan. I shut him up by saying "You played 2 ranked teams and got smashed by one of them"

Georgia fans here in Tn have been respectful of Notre Dame for the most part. Of course they think their linebacker is as good or better than Teo. I argued the fact that both are great and both are different types of linebackers.

ESPN has spent all week putting Stanford on a pedestal trying to make Oregon look like world beaters if they win.

So ironic a few weeks ago, all we heard was how the Cardinal "just lost to UW" and wasn't who we thought they were after the loss to ND.

ESPN is agenda-driven. That's all we need to keep in mind here.

Whose agenda though, ESPN's? You would have to think that if ESPN, who televises all the bowl games, wanted to milk the big game they would push more for Notre Dame than Kansas State. Kansas State is a good football team, better offense than us, but we have the better defense. We've looked better imo against similar opponents too. On the other hand half the time it seems ESPN is trying to keep ND out of the picture and either continue to push Kansas State or a 1 loss SEC team.

They have the bowl games, but they aren't happy that the Irish (The hottest commodity in college football) are on NBC. That's why they (ABC/ESPN) broadcast the away games. They know it's a huge money and ratings maker for them.

Fiesta would love ND and a SEC team increasingly more so after the TCU-Boise and Oklahoma-Conneticut games in recent years didnt bring in the crowds expected.

At the same time, ESPN helped vault ND during the OU week - saying a win in Norman would validate the Irish, etc. the ironic part is that they all thought it would be a blowout so it backfired.

Does anyone know when the bowl match-ups will be announced? I poked around the BCS site but couldn't find anything.

I don't think they'll start picking any teams till the last week, conference championship week, ya? Not all the bowls will be announced then, but by that time many teams will have played their last game and some bowls will start grabbing up teams that meet their qualifications if I remember.

There's a reason for that, and again, it's not because the world is full of mean people who just can't wait to stick it to Notre Dame. If you're a fan who sees a conspiracy, let me break it softly: You're not important enough to be conspired against. Voters don't rush to the ballot to screw Notre Dame, because Notre Dame -- like any other school -- just isn't that important. Voters don't wake up in the morning hoping for some chance to hurt Notre Dame, or anyone else for that matter. How self-centered does a fan base have to be to think otherwise?

Declaring ND's 3 million + fanbase "self-centered" for thinking we deserve a shot at the title makes you a hater, Doyel. So does definitively declaring ND unworthy because of a few close games, while disregarding 100 other factors that would militate in our favor.

The rest of the media is making the case for us to be in the top two so of course someone has to be play contrarian for the page views.

I mean was there really any other choice than this guy?

Alabama's Chances of Playing for the BCS Championship Are Better (But Less Deserved) Than You Might Think - The Triangle Blog - Grantland

A push for 1) people relaxing on the BCS talk, there's a lot of football to be played 2) if 2 of the unbeaten teams lose, the winner of the SEC will probably play in Miami 3) although, it's undeserving based on....are you ready for this?!...the SEC having a weaker SOS than the current top 3. Goes on to say that a one-loss ND, KSU, or Oregon team is still probably more deserving for the title game than the winner of what's expected to be Georgia/Alabama.

My head just exploded. Totally shocked someone would actually prepare a decent article such as this on a site like Grantland.

There is no sense arguing. Idiots have impossibly fortified their castles with BS arguments to illustrate their point. There is not one team that I could put vs ND and say that ND will get curb stomped. They might not win every game, but they will all come down to the wire. And God help them if our Offense happens to be clicking that night.

We are 10-0. 10-0 and in the FBS division is hard to do, regardless of whether you are BoiseSt or Alabama. We are tied with being the #1 scoring Defense in the whole country.

Our resume is hard to dispute, especially with multiple common opponents. We share USC & Stanford with Oregon, and Miami/Oklahoma with KSU. We out did KSU by a wide margin and we'll see how the split goes with USC/Stanford. Stanford could have 4-5 losses after its all over, USC could have 4-5 losses when its all over. They just aren't good teams like we are used to seeing. Oregons game play, straight from Kelly's mouth, was to simply out turn USC and be ahead at the end of the game. No stopping, nothing. When Oregon plays KSU in the championship and demolishes them, they will still have been untested defensively.

KSU got by IowaSt, albeit not in OT or 3OT. The got by Oklahoma. They beat a clearly over rated WVU team. The BIG12 is almost as bad as the BIG10.

No one plays defense in the BIG12 or PAC12 and its clearly become a beauty contest of offenses. Oregons offense would wilt under the pressure of a top ranked defense, and I think they'll get a solid test this weekend. Lets hope Stanford takes them to OT.

I have noticed a lot of these haters pick and choose which stats they want to use. Ok, so we had a few close games, but what about how good our defense is? We are holding nearly every opponent under their season average, some by a large amount. Yet everyone says, "Oh that's nice they have a great defense..... But did you see Oregon's offense?" It's like they all completely forget how championships are won. No one was talking up LSU and Alabama last year as a high flying high scoring game, instead they were raving about their elite defenses. WE HAVE AN ELITE DEFENSE.

It saddens me that because we don't score like oregon, we are inferior. They have swiss cheese defense. They make a few stops in a game and then that's it, their offense is too far ahead. Imagine playing a team that makes a few stops of their own against Oregon. They would be in trouble. (I hope to see Stanford do this) Yet all everyone says is their offense is too good. Maybe it is, but I'm willing to bet our elite defense would hold them below their average by a good margin.

Exactly. I have my own theory as to why that is though...I feel as though our collective attention spans are getting shorter. We live in a go go go world of high speed internet access, fast food, and energy drinks. People don't have the attention span to watch a defensive game anymore, hell they won't even watch baseball and no one will give soccer a chance because baseball, soccer, and defense are "boring." Oregon, with their flashy uniforms, and flashy offense appeal to the masses. They are west coast and sexy.

Notre Dame is middle America and blue collar. We hang our hat on elite defense, time of possession, and running the football. You know the way football championships have been won for the better part of a century. But that's old news, Notre Dame glory coincides with the Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Johnson administrations. The masses want the nouveau riche Oregon Ducks. Makes me sick.

I may be wrong but I still say The Irish match up with most SEC teams. Especially Alabama and LSU. They are mirror images almost. The few SEC teams that I think would give the Irish trouble are not in the top half of the SEC. I am sick of hearing about the Bama and LSU and now A&M. Its funny how a couple weeks ago SEC homer was talking trash about A&M and Mizzou. Welcome to real football blah blah blah, Big 12 sucks blah blah blah. Now that the mighty Tide has fallen to A&M the Aggies are worthy of being called a SEC power. LOL what?

And it's not like this is Oklahoma or Texas that jumped shipped, traditional Big 12 powers, Texas A&M was big and large a middling team. And it's not like they beat Alabama after 3 years in the league, with SEC players and the like, this was a middling Big 12 team with Big 12 recruited players who beat the SEC power team in their own yard.

Yes, for referrence I think A&M was something like 1-8 or 1-10 in recent memory against Oklahoma. We're talking about a middle of the road Big 12 school that is as good as the best in the SEC this year.

Yep, and the bottom half of the SEC would have a difficult time in the Sun Belt Conference. Of course the top half is in the top ten which is ludicrous.
