Coach of the year.

Who are the candidates this year? I assume Saban, K-State coach, maybe Chip Kelly? Brian Kelly should have a strong chance imo biased opinion. He's on the brink of an undefeated season starting a RS freshman QB against a very tough schedule.

Absolutely not Saban. Probably to Snyder. No to Chip. Possibly to Bill O'Brien for what he's been able to do at PSU.

IMO Brian Kelly definitely deserves coach of the year. With an undefeated record so far with the tough schedule we have had to face, you almost have to give it to him.

Close second would have to be K-State coach.

I doubt Saban will get much of a look, just because they're turning into the North Carolina of College Football.

Brian Kelly deserves it because he took a team projected 8-4 to 6-6 and then lost 3 of his best 5 players in the secondary and then replaced them with a true frosh converted RB, a first time starter converted WR in BJax, and a RS frosh converted soccer player to converted WR to S in Farley... and has the #2 scoring D in the country.

The only other person you can make a case for in my book is Snyder.

I'm the only one that would consider O'Brien?

I see you McGlovin. You posted while I was typing.

No, O'Brien has to be in consideration, probation, defections, media circus, first year coach.

Another first year coach, Kevin Sumlin has ridden A&M on the shoulders of Johnny Football to a 7-2 record in their first SEC season.

Going back to back though?

That is an awesome feat for sure...but that lineup, my god man! I realistically feel like I could take that to a BCS game. Not really, but it's just loaded, go look at Rivals for the last five years they were the #1 class 3x and the #5 2x. Super solid.

Kelly, O'Brien, Snyder would be my top three, in that order.

IMO, these are the candidates:

Bill Snyder (clear frontrunner as a lifetime achievement award)
Brian Kelly
Bill O'Brien
Kevin Sumlin (great shout, BGIF)

And maybe Frank Solich if Ohio can run the table and win the MAC.

Not that I advocate for it, but don't go to sleep on Urban Meyer, who is also undefeated in his first year at tOSU. They don't play a good enough schedule for me to vote for him, but he is a media darling, so he could end up there.

Ohio lost to Bowling Green last night, can still win the MAC though.

Not saying any of these guys will or should win, but Charlie Strong, Jim Mora, and Will Muschamp have all done very good jobs this year.

Synder is the clear choice... and should be... Urban, O'Brien and Kelly all deserve and will get some lvoe here... but honestly this should be Synder's all the way.

What are you basing this on? That taking that K-State team this far is an accomplishment, or that it's a feel-good story that he came back and resurrected them?

...forgive me if I'm not moved by "lifetime achievement" motivations coopting the intent of awards. That rationale cost us a NC in 1993...and simultaneously made a man who otherwise was a giant become the object of freakin pitty...

That said...seems to be how people think, so yea I can see it happening.

Snyder has been back at KSU since '09 and got COY last year.

He may win again but not based on a sentimental journey.

...Hope thats the case...I'd be better w/him winning if that were the case...

the pitty win...yuk...wouldn't want it

Yeah. Snyder. Kelly. O'Brien. Sumlin. They seem like the strongest candidates.
If Snyder won it last year, he won't again. There's a statute of limitations on Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Kelly probably won't win it because, well, who needs a Notre Dame guy to win it. Plus we don't have a "great" quarterback.
O'Brien actually probably deserves it the most. But Penn State needs another year or two to wash off the taint. So, he's SOL for now.
Sumlin? I don't know. Only if they beat 'Bama this week. Otherwise, whatever.
That pretty much leaves Urban Meyer and Nick Saban. Awesome.
