Guys we need to focus on Pitt!

But for real is best case scenario USC beating Oregon and K state losing? If that happens it doesn't matter if Bama wins out, we are going to NC IF UNDEFEATED, right?

Best case scenario is Bama and Oregon losing next week so there are only 2 undefeated teams from real conferences.

LSU beats Bama and loses the sec title game... Oregon loses Either game to USC and K state loses somewhere... And we win out...

That's the best case, the argument then becomes who plays Notre Dame.... Louisville?? Lol

This may be a last post as I will get banned after typing this.

If all 4 teams are undefeated then…
Bama and Oregon play in the NC-right now I honestly think they are the top two teams.

This kinda goes back to the NC loss/Fiesta win thread…I take the Fiesta win.

ND and k-State in the Fiesta. ND wins a good game and we build momentum going into next year with the reinforcements in the secondary and LB core.

It's been a month since Jerry Palm first projected ND to play in the Fiesta. His 11/3 projections are out and he still has ND in the Fiesta facing KSU.

College Football Bowls - CBSSports.com

Palm projects:

ND v KSU in Fiesta
ALA and ORE in NCG
UF and OU in Sugar
FSU v UL in Orange
NEB v ORS in Rose

MSU v MSSt in Gator
UM v UGA in Capital One
NCS v SU in Sun
UAZ v Navy in Kraft
WVU v USC in Alamo
SDS v BYU in Poinsettia
RU v MIA in Russell

8 opponents in and BC, WF, PIT, and PU out.

Sagarin's 11/3 Rankings are out.

USA TODAY

As of today his Predictor Model (includes MOV) has ND the favorite in all remaining games.

BC + 29

WF + 36

USC + 4.5

I still don't get the argument that Oregons SOS is going to bail them out at the end of the year. The defence in the Pac12 is just as bad as in the Big12. And they have played weaker teams over all than we have.

In Sagarin's Elo Chess Model the BCS uses (No MOV) Sagarin ranks ND # 3 and Oregon # 7.

Sagarin's SOS has ND 16, ALA 17, KSU 33, and ORE 46. ND's is a 1/2 point tougher than ALA to date, 2.5 tougher than KSU, and 6.5 tougher than ORE.

ND should keep an edge over ORE in BCS computer models (No MOV) but drop behind them in the Harris and Coaches Polls. The computers don't recognize injuries like Farley's, illness like flu, rivalries, nor adrenalin letdown after a big win like OU. The people voters could consider those factors if they even know about them but they favor conference ties and high scoring shoot outs like ORE v USC over defensive battles. I doubt there are 10 voters between the Harris and coaches polls that know that ND dominated TOP, Total Offense (+200 Yds), First Downs, and held PIT to one Third Down Conversion and No Fourth Down Conversions while ND converted 50% of their opportunities.

Our problem vs. Oregon isn't the computers, it's the humans. And unfortunately most voters seem to look no further than "WOW 700 yards of offense! 62 points!!1!" And "Triple OT vs. Pitt."

In BCS bowls, only the computers matter.

At least that was my understanding.

I think the coaches Poll and the Harris Poll count in with the computers as well.

I think in the end if the Irish are undefeated that it will be to hard to keep ND out of the NC Game. If we don't make it though I'd love to smack the Seminoles to revenge the lost from last year.

Agree with the sentiment but the bowls pick the opponents on a rotating pecking order. ND isn't going to be available by the O.B.'s pick.

What are the chances ND makes it to the Rose Bowl? I know the Rose Bowl tries to keep to a Big 10 and Pac 12 team every year, but assuming Oregon goes to the NCG, how does replacing them work out? I'd love to play a Big 10 team in the Rose Bowl.

I almost wish Ohio State was eligible to play in a bowl, so we could crush their skulls.

There is a chance if (1) Oregon wins out and goes to the NC and (2) no other P12 teams are locks for a BCS bowl.

The Human Polls are 2/3rds of the BCS standings. The computers are the other 1/3.

The BCS games are decided on a rotating basis between the Rose, Orange, Fiesta and Sugar bowls. Conference Tie-ins are first as follows:

Sugar: SEC vs AtLarge
Rose: Big10 vs Pac10
Orange: ACC vs AtLarge
Fiesta: Big12 vs AtLarge

If it happens to be what we all think is going to happen, Oregon vs Alabama, then the Sugar would select first, then the Rose. Traditionally they would select the next best SEC or BIG10/PAC10 team based on BCS eligibility. So assuming the above scenario the order of selection this year is:

NCG
Sugar (Via Bama)
Rose (Via Oregon)
Fiesta
Sugar
Orange

I have a hard time believing that ND would fall to the Fiesta in 3rd if Oregon and Bama make it. They are a money machine, and thats all that the BCS is outside of the NCG.

PS: No BCS busters this year. Since Boise lost they will no longer be the team ranked ahead of the Big10 and get an auto at large bid.

Thanks Phork. You're sure about selection order, right? I've been wondering that... it's hard to imagine us not being the first team off the board as an "at-large"... I'm thinking we'd likely end up in the Sugar against Florida.
