Not a mention of ND. Miami is his 'leader' right now. I really like this kid though. Maybe move this stuff to the '14 thread?

Since everyone else is keeping this in the '13 thread, I'll go along with it...

How many DL does the staff want next cycle? And I'm not talking the CAT/OLB/DE hybrid types. How many true big-boy run-stopping B.A.'s are we going after? IMO, this is the cycle we restock. We passed on Schutt (which I believe was the dumbest decision to date) and stuck with Jones and Day last year. This year we're only looking at Rochell. Next year the staff needs to stock pile the bigs on the DL.

I think 3. Need a DT

I'm good with that as long as that doesn't mean the CAT/OLB/DE are included in that number.

I'll go ahead and say that if we get our DT but another one wants to join, you take him as well. I don't think I will ever get over passing on Schutt.

ND's scoring defense is in the top 5 currently. The other 4: Bama, South Carolina, Florida, and LSU. Look at how well they recruit the DL. It's not a coincidence their defenses are always great.

I've been thinking 3 for a while. They only signed 2 last year and 2 this year (AM of course is a wild card here).

I would say 4, but it could be a relatively small class. And the way things are shaping up, may need to sign 2 RB's and 2 TE's next cycle. Add that to the obligatory 2-3 OL, 2+ WR's, 1 QB, 2 or so LB's, 2-3 DB's, and (giant sigh from me) a ST player, and I'm not so sure they can/could get up to 4 DL.

But crazy things happen in 15-16 month time spans, so all the above could be different.

I think bare-minimum you need 2 DL... a space-eater that can play nose and a TRUE DE. Only landing two wouldn't be the end of the world, as many think Okwara will develop into a mammoth/athletic freak at DE.

isnt romeo being asked to exclusively play CAT and thus not bulk up to 3-4 DE size?

Is this true? I've heard this as well but only on this site. Can anyone confirm the source of this rumor?

Not that I doubt it -- if the staff saw Okwara's future at DL I'd think he would be redshirting this year.

It is very surprising that we can't really get a True corner to committ. It is one of the biggest weakness on this team.

Convince one true corner and it will start a trend... A la big Lou on the DL Manti at LB

From what I understand is that they want him lean to keep his athleticism and coverage skills.

That doesn't mean he won't get bigger or stronger though it's just that they aren't going to overload his frame as in they won't exceed the limit of where bulk makes his slower, less athletic etc. etc.

I think he ends up position wise just like Shembo (250 lbs.), but because of his length and height maybe he ends up at 260-270 but not much more than that.

Sorry to jump topic real quick, but I didn't know where else to put this...

I think Ironman8 mentioned that we'll take 6 EE's in is class?

If I'm not mistaken, don't EE's count against last years class? (Which was a little light)

If they count towards last years class, doesn't that, in turn, open up a few more spots??

Sorry if this is just a stupid question, but I had to ask it....

It won't open up more spots. EE's count against last year's class for purposes of the 25-per-year rule. For instance, Alabama can sign 28 kids in a class if three are EE's, as long as they signed only 22 or fewer in the previous class.

But no matter how many kids you sign in February, you can only have 85 scholarship players on your roster the following August. For purposes of this rule it doesn't matter how many kids EE as opposed to matriculating in the fall. They just can't add up to more than 85 come August, no matter what.

It doesnt help help as they are up against the limit so it doesn't matter what class they would be considered.

It opens up spots as far as the 25 recruits per year rule but you are still limited by the overall 85 scholarship limit.

Oversigning covers many blemishes and cures many ills.

Well it looks like AA is going to jump ship...again. Who does the staff look at to replace him?

It might not be what ppl want to hear, but I think with Alex jumping ship the staff will like keep an additional 5th year backer (fox or Carlo) and then go after MLB next year. Not able to get a goo MLB in this class why waste a scholly on one when you can bring a capable MLB and look to the future.
