Alex may go and he may stay. As of right now nothing substantial has came out. Even the "experts" are hearing mixed messages.

All I know is I didn't become a ND fan because of recruiting. My guess is no one else on here did either.

Let's enjoy the product that is on the field and recruiting will take care of itself.

I'm really not freaking out about this. Too many great things going on with this program right now.

If AA comes out and says he flipping to Florida, does anyone think BK will accept this? He'll be in contact with him and he'll tell him all the good points about ND Nation that all of you have mentioned on here (getting ready to compete for the NC, an education that is hard to match by most schools, etc.).

I also think how the rest of the year plays out may determine where he ends up. Can UF maintain their focus after beating LSU or will they stumble? So many teams come up with a huge win only to see the rest of the season go south because they don't know how to handle success.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I really, REALLY don't want to lose this kid. He's a tremendous athlete on both sides of the ball, and watching him and Jaylon Smith play together would friggin' awesome come their junior years.

Another thing people are saying...that they'd rather have the DE from Bosco. But they are not mutually exclusive; we could get both. And having seen the tapes on both he and Isaac AND looking at their offer sheets, I'd much rather have Anzalone. Alex has big-time offers from all over the place.

Every year when someone decommits we say "Oh well, I'd rather have player X anyways", and then when we don't get player X, we're screwed and left cursing our luck. I don't want that to happen this year. I'd rather Alex stick. If he doesn't, well, we better hope we can fill him with someone in his class of athleticism.

Oh yeah, I am completely enjoying the ride of this 5-0 start, but that doesn't mean I can't pay attention to recruiting as well. I'm personally not flipping out over this because I've already been through this so many years, but if people want to stress out over it, so be it. Let them do as they please...

Did all the LB's we have committed have anything to do with this?

well nothing has happened yet and go look at who Florida has committed at LB

I'll be nice and list them for you to keep you from having to search.

ESPN Ratings

Daniel McMillian - #3 OLB
Quinton Powell - #8 OLB
James Hearns - #10 ILB

I was hearing there were 4 but this is what ESPN has listed as LBs

I really really really want to keep Alex also. My thinking it will completely suck if he leaves when it is all said and done but he ND can get a nice comparable replacement it will reduce the sting a bit....maybe we could pursue Foster then...

I hear ya brother and I don't want to lose him either. He is a phenomenal athlete and we certainly would be better with him than without. It is kind of refreshing that the board isn't in total meltdown mode over this though so at least winning has matured us a little!:)

It is refreshing but hard at the same time after last years losses. Thanks for the reps too.

one player was told his offer was no longer good because of grades and other off the field issues. Sherit could play OLB , CAT or DE. Herns and McMillan are playing lights out football this season. Herns will move up when new rankings come out he didn't play last season because of injury.

I couldn't disagree more. I would swap Anzalone for Isaac S right now, even if Anzalone wanted to be here. Alex might have a lot of offers, but they arent even all for LB. Isaac has a ton of great offers too (ND, UCLA, Stan, Oreg) and is pretty much regarded by all recruiting sites as equal or better than Anzalone (247 composite has Isaac as #2 and Anzalone as #4) and I LOVE Isaac's tape. I have never thought that Anzalone's tape jumps off of the page defensively.

Just my opinion.

Wooly,
I sort of agree. I'm not going to say AAs tape isnt intriguing, as he is a big solid kid who appears to be very fluid and athletic...but Isaac's tape good lord. Kid is like a heat seeking missile. His closing speed is outstanding, he delivers bone jarring hit after hit but also wraps up and is a very solid tackler. He is a sideline to sideline player who has great instincts and feel for the game from his ILB position.

I'd take either Isaac or AA, or both in a heartbeat, and honestly hope we end up with both.

I'm more worried about Diaco leaving than AA.

^ +100...and i'm worried about other schools playing this card in recruiting b/c it is very realistic

Sound like a terrible card to play IMO. "Dont go to ND because their DC is good and might leave". I dont know why anyone would want to bring up another school on a visit and give them a compliment.

There are ways that a skilled recruiter, when talking to an impressionable 17-18 y/o kid, could get that point across without complimenting Notre Dame.

I agree with all but the second paragraph wholeheartedly. No matter how you look at it, AA is a great athlete. People love to give Kelly credit (and deservedly so) for recruiting athletes instead of position players, and to me that's all the more reason to want a guy like Anzalone. Give Diaco some time with him and you'll see a real monster.

And I have no idea why the fact that we are having a great season means it isn't worthwhile to consider the pluses, minuses and possible repercussions of a potential AA decommit, or next steps if it happens. I don't understand those posts. This is the fun of following recruiting, talking about a new development in our 2013 recruiting effort.

As for who I like more, AA or Isaac S., I can't choose. I love both on film and either could become a great ILB under Diaco. I don't think it's too greedy to want both.

Maybe AA is leaning toward UF because they want him as a tight end. This seems to be the trendy position in the NFL right now and the goods ones are getting much better contracts than ILB's.

They told him that they want him as a LB.

True but those TE's are usually 6'6" and run a 4.5... Alex is going to play LB where ever he goes. If any coach tells him different they're blowing smoke up his *** just to get him there.

When the Irish use to lose I would come here, and would pray guys would come to help this program get turned around. I would pay more.attention to how recruiting went then the games. Now I am so excited about this team and look at recruits like if you want to join something special hop on. If AA does not but no offer need to him or FLORIDA STOP HOLDING A SPOT AND HOP OFF TRAIN. With the way this year is going and how the whole staff has run this program we need to go have a modified. Forget rkg, it needs to be NMU, NEXT MAN UP!!!!!! I would love AA to stay and he would be dominant but he if he leaves then NMU!!!!!!

If you are curious, here is a comprehensive list of all 6'6" TEs who run a 4.5 in the 2013 class:

1) OJ Howard

lol good one, but I do think NYMIKE's point remains. Alex is built like an ILB, not a TE or OLB (in our system). He runs low to the ground and his game is more raw power and speed than length and leverage. I think he'd be a great ILB for us and I hope he stays.
