I think you gotta go with Zeppelin or the Who. Those are the purest classic rock bands. The Beatles and the Stones were greater in their own way, but they are so great that they are almost their own genre.

Big Lynyrd Skynyrd fan too, but I consider southern rock a slightly different genre.

Surprised to see the Eagles mentioned this many times. Just the mention of that band makes me thank the good Lord for child safety locks. My parents played a lot of them on road trips. Without the safety locks I would have pulled a tuck and roll on an interestate highway in my younger years.

Love Bruce ... but again, I think Bruce and his band transcend genre, or are their own genre.

Cream is a great call. I considered putting that as well and now I wish I did. Nobody plays the guitar like Clapton.
