I hate to say this, being from Mayberry and all with some interesting people of our own, but Hammond is not a pretty man....

Was it just me or did he seem kinda sad when Notre Dame was kneeling it out and as the time ran off?

Yeah, but one of many problems I have noticed with him is....

It is literally like a 4 second delay for him to say whether or not ND made a field goal/got a first down/recovered a fumble/scored a TD

And I mean in OBVIOUS situations...

It's ridiculous.

The Al Michaels effect. He did the same even as a FG was already made in the NYJ game today to win it for the Jets.

I don't think it really matters. If you are waiting on someone to TELL you what you know to be true and can see for yourself, then what you need is a better TV, not another announcer.

I guess it just annoys me...

I always think, ok, I SAW IT GO THROUGH, why are you pausing for dramatic effect?!

Who knows? Maybe it is the way they were taught in Broadcasting school when they started??

I should have said Marv Albert, though.

I decided 3 yrs ago to stop the bad mouthing of this clown. It does no good as NBC obviously wants to be neutral. But last night was of the worst I've had to listen to as they almost seemed disappointed that mich didnt stop the win streak. You'd think that NBC would want to promote positive but its more like when will this end and when will the Irish come back to earth. Even Mayock was seemingly always telling why mich was not getting it done rather than 'boy Notre Dame has them playing really poor football'. I truly believe that Hammond is just following orders. Lets face it to them Notre Dame in turmoil is a much bigger story and more juicy coverage than Notre Dame kicking ***. But last night was the worst yet. Even the sideline reporter goes right to the negative when asking Kelly about the QB situation-there tone and line of questions is a pain in the @$$. Please figure out a way to make it more of a home game atmosphere Mr NBC executive. Oh I forgot, you simply dont want to do that.

President of NBC Sports has 2 kids at Notre Dame and is himself a huge ND fan, so I'm pretty confident this is not the case

He makes Goober look like Matthew Mcconaughey.....

He may not be a good looking man but, sheesh was he hideous as a woman before the operation!

The uncomfortable, six inch from your face lean has become epic in my book. I pull that on the wife periodically and get a shove, laugh and "quit acting like that creep" response every time.

I really enjoy Mayock, brings a great perspective from his NFL evaluation expertise and has done a good job picking up sub-stories on the team, nick-names, the type of things you want from your dedicated broadcast crew. He proves you can be objective and familiar one year on the job.

That's simply not true. A winning ND team draws bigger ratings (hence ND-UM having the highest ratings of any game Saturday) and generates more excitement. The haters have to tune in so they can bash ND when they finally lose (or try and find things to nitpick even when they win) and ND bandwagon fans are attracted as well. Turmoil may be more juicy, but football coverage is not about "juicy." In college football, winning equals more $$$ from TV than "juicy."

I think Tom Hammond referred to DaVaris Daniels as "Daniel(s) Davaris" on at least one occasion. nice touch, Tom.

Im not sure if Mayock Mike caught it or not.

So true. My wife knew one of his sons well at ND, actually dated him for awhile (his ride was not even funny his last year at ND). Luckily for her, she realized that marrying a teacher is MUCH better than marrying the son of a billionaire LOL.

As for Mayock...he;s the best in the business for me, along with Collinsworth. Love listening to him. So much better than Haden.

After I rewatched the ND-UM game, I noticed that on a couple of occasions Hammond actually reffered to Densrd Robinson simply as, "Howard"

"Howard with the keeper, picks up 6"

Whether or not he meant Desmond Howard, who knows, it's still **** poor though

Bring on Don Criqui ?? Great play by play.

KEEP THE FAITH !!!

GO IRISH !!!
Don and Allen were absolutely horrendous this weekend. Maybe they were out of sink from not being together yet this year. I usually enjoy listening to the games more than I like to watch them, but it was almost unbearable.

Criqui and Pinkett referred to Michigan as MSU for the entire game!!

I happen to know a little about the industry and I'm a little hesitant to criticize someone in my field but listening to Don Criqui call a D1 game is like listening to Sunday morning tradio on your old mom 'n pop station. He has the driest personality, no excitement and literally no chemistry with Pinkett.

As far as television goes, I think the best duo in the country is Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge. Mayock is pretty solid but shows how great Haden was. I'm indifferent on Hammond but did notice watching the replay he made a lot of mistakes.

Does it really matter that much?

I get excited enough on my own, I don't care if the announcer does or not.

Remember the Tom Pagna/Tony Roberts days? Wow.....those two calling Notre Dame games were classics. They knew all the inside stuff; just like listening to WSBT Radio in the morning before each ND game. The current in-game announcing is horrible - Criqui /Pinkett are useless.

Hammonds is a joke and Mayock with his "Where's Waldo" comments makes me wish ND never screwed over Tony Roberts.

Go Irish!

"10... 5... Touchdown Irish!"

Love that Tony Roberts voice. Hammond is not knowledgeable and sounds bored most of the time. Mayock is a good football guy but is not a natural in the booth, and it shows. Herbstreit is the best color man (and analyst) around right now. With guys like Lundquist and Musburger getting way, way, way too old, there isn't really a voice that both defines major college football clashes and does a great job. I miss the Dick Enberg days, and the other older gentleman who used to call the games for NBC in the 90s (forgot his name, and I believe he has now passed on).

A little off-topic, but I kept seeing neutral fans complaining about the announcers' pro-ND bias during the UM game. First off, Hammond has seemingly no interest in Notre Dame football. And our last two color commentators have graduated from and played at rival schools!
