Very encouraging article and interview - very different from other ones coming out about Luke. Hope this one is more accurate.

He thinks it was huge Luke's mom was on the visit. Said it really helps reinforce what ND can do for him outside of football. Belles doesn't agree that Oklahoma and Texas are the leaders and he feels confident Luke will make the right decision. :)

Cole Luke is one which I always hoped we would get, but was not at all confident. This news is very good. Makes me feel we have a significantly better chance than I have been thinking.

That's something you have to guard against, but on the other hand, when the parents are on the visit and see the other side of the opportunity (not just football) they can play a big role in the decision process. The UM game was just the icing on the cake for his visit. He had to be impressed by the atmosphere and the bond between the players and students. The biggest question, is how much influence his mom will have on his decision? Some parents are heavily involved and help make the decision where some parents simply state their opinion and let the kid make the decision. Anyone have an idea which way it is with the Luke family?

As far as the conflicting reports, it is hard to put all my stock in a former players thoughts, Belles is clearly a homer. Did he have his green hearing aids in when he was listening to Cole talk about the visit?

Yes Notre Dame is privy to certain powers and Catholics have used it for centuries. It simply stated is: Through the Mother you get the Son.

The guy has never sent a kid to ND, so I bet he takes what kids say with a grain of salt.

Haha. I couldn't agree more. Who knows whether Belles is exaggerating, or whether Luke subconsciously exaggerated his own interest in ND when he spoke to Belles about the visit because he knew it was what Belles wanted to hear.

I hope it's true that we are still at or near the front for Luke, but I just can't get too excited till I hear it from someone besides Belles.

I think we sit well according to this ISD freebie

Luke, CB, 6-0, 170, Hamilton High School, Chandler, AZ visited Notre Dame for the Michigan game. It was the second time that Luke (pictured) has been on the campus, the other time coming on an unofficial visit last summer. Belles believes that Luke was very impressed with his visit.

“It went really well,” said Belles. “I think it was really good that his mom went this time. I still think he’s going to take his two trips to Texas and Oklahoma and then make a decision.”

While Belles doesn’t push his players to any school, he’s made it clear to Luke that if he follows his stated priorities, his decision should be clear.

“Like I told him, if you’re basing it on academics and athletics, then you’ve already made your choice,” related Belles. “You can’t say you’re weighing academics, I hate to say it, if you’re talking about either of those two schools and trying to put them up against Notre Dame. There’s no comparison.”

Belles believes that it was more important to get Luke’s mother on campus than getting the talented cornerback to return.

“He’s pretty level headed,” the Hamilton head coach stated. “I think the more important thing was getting mom out there to be honest with you. In the end a little age and a little experience about life makes a big difference.”

This is the second Notre Dame game that Luke has seen in person this year. His entire team was in Ireland playing as part of the weekend football festival that culminated with the Notre Dame-Navy game. It hasn’t hurt the Irish’s position that they’ve started 4-0.

“Notre Dame is playing great,” stated Belles. “They’re a top ten team right now, so that’s just awesome.”

Still, Belles is leaving the final decision up to Luke.

“He’s still got to make his decision based on what he thinks is best for him not now, but the future,” he said. “He knows because I’ve had many talks with him and our d-line coach has had talks with him about that. In the end, it’s got to be his four or five year experience.”

Though many recruiting pundits still have Texas and Oklahoma in the lead for Luke’s services, Belles doesn’t agree.

“I would have to disagree with that,” opined Belles. “I think Cole’s going to make the right choice.”

These two summaries represent just a sample of the Notre Dame football recruiting information available each week on Irish Sports Daily.

Again, Belles is a bit of a homer. He also said that his '14 recruit Casey Tucker, who is committed to USC, was pressured into committing by the USC staff.

IMO, I get the feeling that his pressure (Belles) is working against us in Luke's recruitment.

I don't know about that but I don't put too much stock in what he says. He is clearly biased and pushing Luke toward ND. That's great and all, but I don't think he really knows what Luke is going to do ... he just knows what he wants Luke to do.

Texas 247 quotes an anonymous source as saying that people close to Luke think he is a heavy Texas lean after officialing for the WVU game. It would be a shock if he didn't pick Texas, per the source.

Luke himself still says that his top 4 (UT, OU, ASU and ND) are even.
