I like Baratti's raw talent. But how many minutes of Secondary Playing Time would we have on the field collectively? That's probably the area that needs the most right hand and left hand reading and reacting together as one.

A rookie corner or a rookie safety in a field of 4 is worrisome. Expecting a rookie Safety to anticipate a rookies Corner's move and vice versa strikes me as smooth as Paul Ryan and Joe Biden sharing a checkbook, one responsible for making deposits and the other for writing the checks.

(I'm a registered independent. I didn't take sides, just sayin' ...)

That was really funny you tease. Saw it right away. But can you imagine?

motta hasnt been very good and we cant expect that to change

Motta hasn't been that bad first off. And why do you believe that a player cannot improve? That is terribly flawed reasoning. You are being disrespectful of all our players and coaches spewing crap like that.

You should consider thinking before you post next time.

Agreed. And further, what was so bad about his performance against Navy? I am interested to see how our d-backfield plays on our turf in it's more normal configuration.

I would disagree with the idea that Motta hasn't been that bad and therefore will at least be OK if not improve and be good. He has not been good in pass coverage from all I have seen coming into this year. He looked bad again against Navy. I usually have a easy time trusting the coaches judgment, but I am struggling here. Whenever such is the case, I always fall back on "They have got to see and know way more than I do."

I'm surprised people are so quick to defend Motta. He was pretty bad against Navy and is a pretty slow player in general. I'm not comfortable with him as a starter.

SMH.

Well, it's not your job to be comfortable with him.

The best player that gives us the greatest chance at winning will play.

If Motta is replaced, you are right.

If he isn't, you're wrong.

Title2014 hasn't been wrong a single time in his life... well not since the "Great Adam's Apple Dabacle of 1997" (we tried to warn him).

I think we all want to forget about that though, right?

I was going to say the opposite after reading through the Post Game Impressions thread. I think Motta will be fine. He's a good player with a lot of experience. He's nobody's superstar but he's a solid starter.

With the exception of a couple bad plays in the first quarter, I thought Motta had a really good game against Navy. I actually think he had a better game than Slaughter. Not saying he is a better player than Slaughter but I think he played better this game.

Motta made a bad angle on an outside run and then a few plays later was indecisive and hesitated on a pass play and got behind the receiver. That constitutes a bad series not the whole game. Besides those plays (which admittedly made me worried for a bit that we were seeing old Zeke), I did not pick up on any mistakes by him the rest of the game. One improvement I did notice with Zeke from last year was on his pursuit angles which resulted in the biggest hit of the game.

What kind of irks me is I noticed Slaughter out of position a lot more against Navy and no one is calling for his head or to have a freshman start ahead of him. Slaughter was playing deep on Russel's side and let the deep throw get behind him before the Tuitt fumble recovery TD. He also hesitated on getting over to help Russel when Navy scored their TD.

I think people are carrying over last years opinions and fears onto this year's team. Lets all breath a little bit and wait till we see a normal offense to get an idea of our secondary. Its quite alright to have concerns but lets discuss those as concerns and not that the sky is falling and all-the-freshman-have-to-start-now whining. Lets try to be a little better than the Rock's House. We are all more sensible than that.

Imma keep dis real short.

Zeke is slow. And I'm not even talking about just his lack of acceleration and velocity. But his anticipation is very delayed, especially in the pass game.

With this said, Zeke isn't terrible. He's just not Harrison. And I actually think Zeke will be solid in the run defense, passing I can only hope.

i was not saying that zeke cant improve or that our coaches cant coach just that everyone expects him to suddenly turn into a star which i dont see any justification for considering his lack of speed

That sounds a whole lot better than your first statement.

I am not expecting him to be a star, but I am hopeful. Ido expect that he will continue to be our best option with Slaughter this year and a solid cog on this defense. I still disagree with you saying he lacks speed though. The reason he looses receivers sometimes is he is slow reacting to the play. That's a mental part of the game which is easier to fix and something I thought he did better at in the latter half of the game. A safety doesn't have to have elite speed like a corner does anyways.

Also, I apologies for coming off so strongly in my first post, but I was getting sick of people calling for inexperienced freshman to move ahead of some of our most seasoned vets. It was getting a little on the ridiculous side.

If Baratti needs some reps so the coaches can get a feel for his potential, then I say go for it.

Motta's played in 40 games so far and is a 3rd year starter. He's as good as he's going to get.

I am honestly hoping for some serious playing time for some of the freshman.

Baratti, Shumate, Brown, and Neal being the predominant names I'd love to see out there early and often

I'm sure he is gonna being ready to go this weekend. Don't know how much time he will see cause with Slaughter out Motta is gonna need to be out there every play lining up the other young guys.

He was really jacked up for the opening kickoff against Mich. St. can't wait to see what he can do when its Mich he is hitting instead of GAIII lol.

I think Baratti is very similar to Motta. Both a bit oversized and like to hit. I like the leadership that Motta has shown in Slaughters absence, Baratti will learn a lot.

Have been high on him since he committed.

Similar to Motta but with wheels that don't just go round and round.

I'm hoping a physical resemblance isn't the only thing she shares with Smith.
