all you "future schedule makers" are leaving out/forgetting all the non-acc games we have booked into the future i.e texas series, temple series, byu, northwestern, umass, army are all sprnkled in over the next 4-5 yrs.
i think we do this early and pay the big east exit penalty...jack didnt want to kick BE when they are down today but i would almost say its 100% we leave whenever we want to leave, like the rest of them did,exit fees are chump change for ND.

I doubt it will be long until we join the ACC as full members. Once the dominoes start falling again we'll act quickly.

No I'm not. I'm simply projecting the future. Not 2015/2016.

Don't be surprised to see some of those series cancelled.

How will this affect the hockey program? Besides BC does the ACC even have hockey teams?

Not talking about this move. But this does affect the hockey program because it keeps it in Hockey East. I was just speaking about Swarbrick in general about his moves with the hockey program. When the CCHA was falling apart because of the Big Ten forming its own hockey conference he got us in Hockey East, then there is the Compton Ice Arena, and coming this year the Hockey City Classic.

5 ACC games are locked in. We have to play every team once every three years, so no way we will play BC/Pitt every year.

Navy and USC have to stay on the schedule.

That leaves 5 more games. There is just no way we can do Mich, MSU, Purdue, Stanford, and the Shamrock Series. Maybe we could do 3 of those 5 games in a given year. We just need to have teams like Temple/BYU on the schedule.

I would love to see us rotate playing Mich/MSU/Purdue/Stanford every couple of years and do the Shamrock Series every other year (maybe when we're playing Navy at home to avoid two neutral site games)

Assuming the ACC adds one more team making 15 football teams (excluding Notre Dame), and assuming all of the teams play Notre Dame every three years as mentioned earlier, seems like the schedule would eventually work out to where we have 7 games available to schedule each year.

The B1G has a contract with the pac 10-12 (whatever it is) for nonconference games coming up. That will make scheduling games with Purdue, MSU, UM even more difficult in the future

Edit: The above post is incorrect. Disregard.

My guess is we will use the Shamrock Series to try and add one of those traditional rivals back on the schedule. Could you imagine Michigan ND at Yankee stadium or Solider Field.

The arithmetic says that if the statement about us needing to play every ACC team at least once in three years is true, and that we have five ACC games per year to do that, and that the ACC has 14 teams not named Notre Dame, then no ACC team can be on the schedule every year unless we want to play an "extra" ACC game.

Example: year one --- BC, Syracuse, Pitt MD, VA;

year two --- VT, UNC, WF, NCSt, Clem;

year three --- GT, FSU, Miami, Duke, back to BC.

If we wanted to maintain ONE rival each year [EX. The Holy War] we'd have to schedule BC extra that year, for six ACC games.

Other than that, I'd say we'd keep USC, Navy, MSU, Purdue on the schedule, and Swarbrick could play around with two or three games depending on the year. My guess would be that BYU would be easiest to schedule, or a MAC opener or Army. Stanford has reasons to remain if possible. Michigan seems happy to disappear anyway.

I would vote for Stanford if this were the case. I have a feeling that is what will happen.

Drop Stanford, and you can use the Shamrock Series for any regular season opponent not just someone special. They could play Virginia in Cleveland, OH one year, and Clemson in Tempe, AZ the next.

There is no reason to set aside a week for the Series, it can be moved to fit any schedule.

Why would either UM or ND want to give up a home game to play at Soldier Field?

It's a much smaller venue and both have a presence in the Midwest. In Rockne's era when most stadiums were small and you could play before 100,000+ there it made sense. Not today. Miami likes it because it gets them exposure in the Midwest.

I absolutely 100% love this! You are gonna get quality opponents from the ACC in football with great games vs VT, Miami, and FSU in football and just unbelievable games against Duke, UNC, Pitt, and Syracuse in basketball!

Times are changing and making my outlook on ND so much brighter! Proud fan today!

Swofford hints that Notre Dame would play neutral site games against ACC opponents. Notre Dame-Miami falls into that category this year.

Just a friendly reminder that 6 of ND's top 7 media markets are secured by this move. We'll keep Chicago and South Bend from proximity alone. Our presence in New York, Boston, Philly and D.C. just got a big boost.

I agree. Not to mention that all of our other sports are going to be facing better competition as well. The ACC is an upgrade in every way from the BE.

Some may disagree, but I also think this is a better place for our football to play than the B1G or Big 12. I think we have the marquee match-ups we need every year and we will be in the markets that ND wants to recruit from and considers itself a part of (Northeast).

Academically the ACC is fantastic and we're only going to add to that. Great fit.

Besides the academics connection, Stanford with USC ensures ND one game a year in the California recruiting market. That's important.
