Has anyone seen Hounshell play? I thought with KLM and Day going down that he would play. Anyone know what is going on?

From Kelly 9/9 PC

Q. On your defensive line, can you evaluate what you got from Sheldon (Day) and (Tony) Springmann and also an injury update on a guy who didn't play, I'm assuming he's injured, (Chase) Hounshell; where does he stand in the mix right now?
COACH KELLY: Chase isn't hurt. He's just out at a position where he's behind Stephon Tuitt. As you know, Stephon is a guy that is going to rack a lot of minutes for us.

We think Sheldon Day is an outstanding player, and he came in and did a very nice job. Tony Springmann is a guy that we have a lot of confidence; but those are inside guys. You talk about an outside guy with Hounshell, and he's behind a very good player.

Kelly went on to say later that, at this time he doesn't know if he'll preserve a year of eligibility or not. He doesn't begin to think about those things til week 6.

This is really odd. I'm guessing his surgery from earlier this year didn't get the job done or he really did re-injure himself during the summer like the rumors said. Either way it was really kept under wraps.

Between Schwenke, Springman, and Day all being quality players, plus the use of Shembo and Williams as down linemen in 4-3 looks, this is not much of an issue (also taking into account that he hasn't played this year anyway). If there is an injury or two along the front, however, this could pose a problem down the road.

At least we are quite deep up front. Very disappointing to have a kid like this stunt his development, especially after the way he got after it as a freshman.

Good luck, Chase.

I totally agree.

Question: what happens first, burning Jarron Jones's redshirt, or putting in T Stock?

Yeah, I think Utopo coming in would happen before burning Jones RS. 1 or 2 nagging injuries is no big deal-- I think they'd be fine. Say a guy goes out for the year...then a couple sprained ankles/knees, then it would get interesting.

The guy who originally posted the injury on ISD (and he is as legit as they come - his info has always been on the money) said he talked to his sources on the team and they daid that Chase was doing leg workouts this morning, and that he will still miss a majority if not all of the season. Hope he's wrong though...

So I guess the ISD guy had this right? Still not sure what the injury is but I think it's related to a torn labrum, in the shoulder?

Saw this elsewhere and thought it was funny...

‏@chasehounshell. At this rate, next year my high school will join the big 10.

Ouch ... maybe a little harsh by Hounshell? It's not like they're inviting MAC schools in or anything.

I would take some of the schools in the MAC right now (about 4 of them) and put them on par with Maryland and Rutgers.

Maybe he thinks you post too much on a message board?

i read more than i post...and if you read chase thread here on IE theres ample evidence ("notre lame", ben rapelesburger etc) that he ought to have learned his lesson to stay away from social media--especially now that he represents ND.

Suffered another torn labrum. May not recover to football playing shape again.
