EDIT: on early 247 rankings he is a top 10 DT and #2 in Kansas

LJ Moore is the next big piece IMO. Legit cornerback from the west coast that will really solidify this DB haul and allow us to wait patiently for an elite DB to make a decision in January/February.

I don't think he is next but I think LJ Moore is the surprise get in this class.

ND would love to take 2 more high quality CBs. Kinlaw is somewhat injury prone at this point in his career. Butler has a lot of potential, but getting elite talent at positions of need is only going to increase the ceiling of this team. I really dont think LJ Moore is a surprise get in this class. I mean he has listed ND #1 on his list.

ND is a great spot right now with recruiting. They have gotten their top guys on their board, and can now cruise into the recruiting season with their class in great shape. Now if they can surprise a Okla/usc that would probably push ND over the top with some of the kids that are on the fence. If ND goes 8-4 its not going to hurt recruiting bc they are still beating the teams they should, but even Id take a BYU loss and a Okla win. ND needs just the "hype" that they can hang with a big boy.

We dont need a DT this year. We need a pass rushing DE like stated earlier. I would love to see a class wrap up with

Moore/AQM or Hooper/Duarte/Treadwell and then a filler for the 5th spot.

Mayock: "He's Big Skill, got a huge upside, great frame, high ceiling, and is quicker than fast. His mama was a knee-bender, and his daddy a road-grader."

Does he keep his head on a swivel?

Curious to know why you think that?

same question TP, I think a DT this class would really help. We have Springmann, Stockton, and Nix... none for the 2012 class. I think this would be a great class for a DT.

Regarding our DT #s, I've given up worrying about it, mainly because it's clear that we have very little idea what type of player constitutes a good DT in Diaco's system.

Nix is the obvious prototype, but who anticipated Springmann or Schwenke moving to NT? Tuitt has apparently seen reps at NT, and didn't a coach recently comment that they like Jones at DT also?

In short, the staff seems to have no problem operating without several prototypical bowling ball DTs on the roster, so there's no sense in worrying about it.

I, as usual, agree with Whiskey, and I've never actually "worried" about any of these things. I'd say two things in addition, which run in opposite directions:

1. I would LIKE a defensive tackle in this class, simply because they are tremendously "useful" to any team, and you never can count on getting them "in the future". These guys aren't sitting on the shelf as readily available commodities. Concerning "bigness" in DTs, VTs Bud Foster always wants at least one big one with athleticism anchoring his D-Lines. He's not just messing around force-fitting players. [yeh, I know he uses a 4-3, but he nevertheless wants at least one of the interiors to be a monster].

2). All three of this year's frosh could conceivably develop into Diaco DTs. Despite people thinking "no" because of how he's looked destroying rush-edge blockers, Day was thought of as the alternate Shutt in the famous controversial "pick one" deal that went on there. Jones obviously has a large size upside. Who can say what sort of specimen he'll become? And we should wait to see what our young giant Romeo's body actually does in the next two years. Nothing there would surprise me.

So, I'll [mostly] contently sit here and watch how the staff plays it.

At least once per week, someone makes a post that makes me remember the Schutt fiasco.

I still shed tears about that occasionally...

Apologies, Wooly. It was required in my "insightful discussion" to make the point.

From now on I'll refer to ... ummmm .... "that other really good DT that wanted to come here", whenever I have to defend Day-to-DT. But.... on reading that .... it doesn't seem to help much.

With the limited spots available thought we could discuss what players you would like to take, that are viable options, that you think if we added could give us the no. 1 recruiting class by February. (assuming no defections of course)

Adding those recruits would not give us the #1 class by February. To get the #1 class we would need defections from USC, an average finish from Bama, and I think the following additions:

Alexander
Willis
Treadwell
A. Muhammed
Folston

I would want to trade out Hooper for either Cunningham or another DB, but I agree with the rest.

But they might need Hooper. Augusta would be even better, but they need d-lineman. And I think they could really use Boyd over Cunningham for sure.

LJ Moore is playing in the Semper Fi Bowl..so will Malik Zaire (I think that's good because Moore will have some pro-ND at that game).
