Can we finally expect some touchbacks on kick offs with Brindza kicking?

Watching his film I was impressed by how powerful his leg was, ND hasn't had a kicker who could regularly get touch backs in forever. Thing is a lot of kickers ND signed over the last few years have been hyped up but failed to live up to expectations, anyone know how Brindza has looked in camp? Can we finally get some touch backs this year? And can Kyle punt too? Our punting was awful last year.

We'll see.

I remember a kicker from a few years ago (Ryan Burkhart?) that supposedly had a big leg and ended up being really disappointing on KOs.

I have seen Brindza kick before and the kid has a boot. He almost left high school a year early to kick for Michigan last year. I met him when he was at Michigan during his junior year. Someone can correct me ifI am wrong but I think he is a highly rated punter too.

I think in time he will be good for us. The first thing that will translate over for him is kickoff. The last will be field goal kicking. FG is the hardest from HS to college due to the lack of a tee.

I was a back up FG kicker in HS and we never used a tee.

Excuse me. My bad. I feel dumb. I meant a block. I have coaches kickers for 10 years and I called the dumb thing a tee.
Block for FG
Tee for KO.
No block for college fg.

Actually can actually use a tee to kck a fg for a "free kick" in HS. Very rarely used, but can be effective. It is an old football rule. Not sure if legal n college. Anyhow anytime a team fair catches a punt they have the option to play offense or kick a FG off a tee. This play cannot be defended either. The defense just stands there and watches the kicker attempt a FG from a kickoff tee if they choose. It is worth three points like any other FG. This is a national HS and NFL rule. Not in NCAA rules for some reason.
Also saw Neil Rackers do this a few years back in a game. In the NFL they may not use a tee, only a holder.

Oh right on, if I had thought about it for a second I would have probably realized what you meant.

Brindza had a kickoff in the Michigan h.s. state championship game that went thru the endzone and hit the wall of the endzone stands about halfway up. He single handedly got his high school team to the championship in Michigans highest division on his leg alone. Granted they kickoff from the 40yd line, but still he hit like 7 FGs of 45yds or more as a Senior. He reminds me of Craig Hentrick, he was a good enough athlete to start, but too valuable to risk. This all coming from a kid who was born with a deformed foot and leg. Expect great things from him

With the exception of camp which hasn't started yet, you'll find all your questions answered in Brindza's Recruit Profile.
