Well, pretty soon Kelly certainly won't be able to tout the 98% graduation rate for football. This rate of attrition of quality players is unacceptable and as well as he has recruited he needs to get people to buy in and stay.

If a player is academically eligible at the semester wherein he leaves school for whatever reason, he does not count against the team's graduation rate. This is my understanding. The NCAA considered this fair to the institutions as the institutions cannot do anything about student "life choices", but should only be held to how they shepherded their academic progress.

At this point I cant see them bumping anyone from DL to OL bc Dl isnt exactly beaming with quality depth right now. Bringing in 5 OL next year is going to make up for Carrico/Prestwood not being there, but as I said before I dont expect any of them to play. Its just a position you dont play early at unless its by need bc of strength, technique, and mental parts of the game. Its a shame we lost 2 good guys in Carrico and Prestwood...a damn shame.

I'm a little tired of some of the bored housewives "speculating" about why Jordan left, and adding the list of crappy guesses why and what they think of them. Granted this is a board of opinion but shouldn't it be a board of intellegent opinion based on some sort of fact? It will come out why Jordan left...it always does so please stop all the negative conjecture about a kid you thought the world of yesterday.

Yep- we're all crystal clear on why Tee Shepard left; the family/geographic hardship Amir Carlisle received from the NCAA; how Cam Roberson was thought be done with football this spring, practicing this week, and now apparently done again; etc., etc.

Haha, I wasn't going to say anything but with over 5,000 members it is hard to say only half a dozen could handle the rigors.

Could and did are two different things; that is my whole point.

Another point: 97% of kids that pay football until their freshman year of high school, never start a varsity game. 85% of those that play "interhall" football at Notre Dame, started varsity, and captain their high school team. Of the several million varsity players, coast to coast; less than 3,000 play division one college football, and of that, about 25 play for Notre Dame. It ain't just hitting on the field, it's hitting the books. And it is having the tremendous discipline to put both first, no matter what.

So when someone tries and falls short, I have no patience with the poster who wants to demonize, and I want no part of it. Lord knows when some knucklehead abuses the system I will be the first person to tear into them. Every situation is different. Who knows what the outcome of this will be? My whole original point was to put this in context. JP is not part of any house cleaning. And with everything set up the way it is, that is the impression some may get at what is happening.

With Tee, just watch his career. Amir is a quality individual that believed what he was told, and when it turned out that he had an entirely different wiring job than was required, so he came home, and didn't see a need to be penalized for it.

Cam is one of the most mentally tough individuals you will meet, as Coach Kelly is a loving (agape) individual (head coach). The chance was given to test what was suspected. Cam gave it everything and he was afforded everything he needed to succeed in life. Nothing was left on the table. I would want this for my own kid. My respect his gone through the roof for both of those individuals.

From Eric Hansen's live chat (going on now) at South Bend Tribune:

"Eric Hansen: Shaka, what I am hearing is that Prestwood's departure is related to academics. And that certainly synchs up with the timing of it. That means he's gone from the team and Notre Dame this semester. If you look at ND's recent history in these situations, there have been a few kids transfer (E.J. Banks comes to mind), but typically they come back (Pat Kuntz, Travis Leitko, Darrin Walls). The door, theoretically then is open for a return, but he has work to do to make that happen if he indeed wants to come back."

But why would the academic issue arise this late? Wouldn't they/he know the problem as soon as Spring Semester grades were out? And couldn't Summer classes then somehow mitigate the problem?

Maybe Summer courses were his chance to get his GPA high enough and he did not, thus the timing he is referencing being summer grades just arriving? Hopefully JP puts in the hard work this upcoming semester, wherever that ends up being, and gets his necessary coursework taken care of so he can return to the Irish, if that's what he wishes to do.

I think you are right NDdomer. This is about the same time we found out EJ Banks was academically ineligible.

Did they say he went home to FL or just off the team? I guess my thought process is taking me to: is he still enrolled at ND and will he be allowed to continue academically this semester at ND (I honestly don't know how this part works)?

He went home to FL.

Does this go against our Graduation Rate?

Hey ND guys smarter than me--

To what "privacy laws" does Kelly speak?

I don't know the laws exactly but I would imagine they are similar to the doctor patient confidientiality laws. BK can't just come out and says Jordan Prestwood flunked off the team. If Jordan so chooses to tell everyone, then Kelly can comment afterward.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

Hey ND guys smarter than me--

To what "privacy laws" does Kelly speak?

FERPA - Federal Privacy Laws and FERPA

The federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (or FERPA) protects a student's educational records from, for example, having his grades or disciplinary record posted in a public way. It guarantees your child - and you, while your child is a minor - access to inspect and review his school records, and provides a process so errors can be corrected. But when your child turns 18, those privacy restrictions suddenly impact you. Universities can still disclose basic "directory information" - the fact that your child is enrolled, his graduating year, for example, the degrees earned, honors, sports affiliations and contact information. But by law, the university's staff cannot disclose your child's grades, financial records or other forms without written authorization from your teen or a court order. Your child also has the right to withhold directory information, but he must file a "no release" form with the university ahead of time.

A lot more here:

Hope he comes back, gets things in order, and rejoins the team when possible (a la Pat Kuntz)

I was hoping this young man would be a factor. Hopefully he can get his grade right and be important to this team.

Sounds like USF is a possibility. Tweeted yesterday he was headed to Vero Beach today and that tweet has been deleted. Vero is where USF is having their camp. There is also a thread on the USF 247 site started by their staff about Jordan potentially transferrig there.
