My first reaction to his commitment- "Who?"

I saw the TP tweeted "Booooom" before I saw that he committed so I knew something good was about to happen.

Great get for us. I love his tape and his power will be great mixed with the speed of our other backs

I need to visit San Diego more often. Last year we landed Day when I was here, this year, a 4* rb from TEXAS!

Welcome to the Irish Mob! Keep them coming. This guy looks like the type of power back we need to compliment the speed we have back there already. Congrats!

So he is the beast from the east (Texas)?

Seriously. This kid looks faster than what some of you are saying. If that is Texas competition, he looks faster than anyone in any game on the field, and has a pretty long stride, too.

Wow talk about a surprise! Smart choice picking a team that has 5 stud OL committed!

Jamel is at 210 already, Bettis graduated at around 240lbs, I'm thinking they can bulk him up to around 220-230 by the time he makes the field, he'll just be rolling over defenses.

Most places list him between 215 and 218. Bench and squat is good, with his spead shows uncommon athleticism for a 17 year old.

Per II he had a incredible Sophmore season but backtracked a little his junior year. Read on other sites that it might of had something to do with keeping his weight down. His Sophmore year is when he got those Major offers.

He went from a 8.6 ypc as a Soph. to 5.6 ypc as a Jr. Hopefully he bounces back with a strong year as a senior.

Wow!!!

I was really hoping that we could steal Altee Tenpenny from Alabama, because I thought we really needed a power back. This kid fits the bill even better though. He runs with so much recklessness and has really high knees. He will be a fantastic gut punch weapon in the red zone.

Congratulations to James and welcome to Notre Dame!

Absolutely. Great-looking power back--or every-down back, really, if he can catch.

I won't feel relaxed about this like I am about our other commits until he visits though. Committing sight unseen, one week after getting rejected by another program, kind of worries me.

Both of my nephews played for Katy High School, one of them still does. The other went on to a D3 school where the stadium was smaller and he played in front of a smaller crowd than he did in High School!

Great news to get student/athlete as gifted as this young man is. I sure thought I was going to have some insider info for everyone, but I am too slow. I went to the wellness center this morning for my physical therapy & my therapist is the mother of one of my football players. They are DIE HARD Arkansas fans. She told me this morning that Blake (her son, my football player) told her to tell me that my school had stole one of their RB commits. She then proceeds to break this RB down & describe him better than most analysts on tv. She talked about how strenuous the academics were at his high school. I have to say, from watching his highlight clip & reading about the school, she was spot on. The only negative comment she had of him was, he likes to run out of bounds to quick. I did notice him doing it some, but I also saw him plow thru folks. I didn't remember seeing his name on here & I thought sure I had a scoop, but 3 hours in the pool and then all the stretches, I don't get out of there until 1. I must confess, I fell asleep on the ride home & my wife wheeled me to bed. Haha, I woke up a few minute ago & grabbed my iPhone, ready to scoop some info, only to find I had been scooped. Anyways, coming from some die-hard "Woo Pig Suie" fans, his kid is a quality pick up & they feel he is a big loss for their school. I feel comfortable about his commitment after hearing how Ark fans won't say anything bad abour him after he decommitted. Makes me think he has a family & community that not only supports, but guides him as well.

Thinking this seals the deal on a legit top 10 class regardless of what everyone else does down the road. Top 5 likely on most services depending on what other surprises we can pull out of BKs arse.

Great steal. I love bug backs like Bettis and Gray. Hopefully he can produce earlier then Gray's senior season.

Amen, about the earlier than Gray comment. Had Gray produced earlier, well I don't want to tease myself. He's obviously strong as hell, heard several places he blocks well, just hope he can catch. If so, likely sees decent time as a soph unless someone else steps up and hits a home run.

Powerback has been a lowkey need, and this guy should fill it. Hopefully he'll be senior Jonas Gray for 3 or 4 years! I like it.

Katy is a Houston suburb h.s. football hotbed. Gotta recruit in Texas...when we get Tex talent, we good. Afeter Holtz & Davie, we disappeared down here..plus Mack locked up the top studs. But, tons of talent to go around... keep it up Coach Cooks.
