Not gonna lie, Summer Olympics don't inspire me as much as the Winter Olympics do. My favorite Olympic sport is hockey.

I am the exact opposite. I can't stand the winter olympics. I really enjoy the soccer, basketball, swimming, and track and field. Hell even some of the shooting events are kind of cool

When it comes to soccer, or futbol, I prefer the World Cup over the Olympics which is why soccer in the Olympics is meh.

Swimming is fun to watch and so is track and field but Olympic hockey is so intense and so fun.

Remember this (despite the loss):

Sarcasm? It's a VERY little known fact that the Queen, even at 86 yers old, is a highly qualified spy. Rumor has it that she still participates in behind the lines military combat missions. I hear she can move like a Ninja and those cute hats are chock full of dangerous weapons.

Haha Fair enough. But, If you did watch the telecast Lauer and Vieira were not being sarcastic. Also, the amount of people I follow on twitter that believed it was really her was astonishing. Just had to ask

I like the swimming in the summer games... that's about it that I really HAVE to watch... I haven't watched the track and field in two/three olympics.... and the basketball is epically boring...

I love the hockey. and the odd sports are more interesting to me in the winter games...

I am liking the summer though, as always

NBC has made the terrible decision to not show this race live. Say what you want about ESPN but they would never do this. Yes, Yes I know they have a live stream on their internet website. But, I want to watch the race on my big screen not my laptop screen(first world problems). Believe the race starts in about 15 mins... 7:30 London Time.

And know I already know the results... damn ESPN.

When track comes on I will have to swear off all internet until it is on tv.

Speaking of Ill give an update on who made the olympic team and some comments on the events I know well soon.

Out of family loyalty, I have to mention that my brother will be on the sidelines as an assistant coach of the American weightlifters. We are WAY behind the old Eastern Bloc countries [and places like Greece who grow their own, and others who "buy" them], but our guys are trying to catch up. I'll be rooting for them to crack the medals in some weight class or another.

That's awesome. Best of luck to him and his competitors. Woot!!!

Tervel Dlagnev is our heavyweight competing, he is an outstanding human being and a genuinely awesome fellow. He is my cousin's, JD Bergman, roommate as they trained for the Olympics the last four years.

My cousin is the only person ever to lose the first match at the NCAA Wrestling Championships and wrestle back into the 3rd/4th place match twice. Sadly, he did the same thing at the Olympic Trials, losing his first match and wrestling back on a streak to take 3rd. JD is undefeated against the guy who won the trial, Jake Varner (Michigan). JD won the championship in 2010, but there obviously aren't summer Olympics that year. It's crazy how it all plays out.

I'm pretty bummed that he didn't make it, and that I won't be going (to the Olympics or to Dublin shortly after for the Navy game), but I'll be watching every moment of the track & field and wrestling that I can.

Interested what the Michigan after Varner's name is supposed to represent. He is from California, wrestled at Iowa State, and competes for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.

Rulon Gardner's name was mentioned early in the thread, and I feel urged to comment on his "opponent". Gardner did the entire planet a service not by winning the gold [that was great by him], but by defeating Alexandr Karelin. Karelin was a cancerous sac of filth operating within the context of "sport". Yes, he was inhumanely strong. That is not, or should not be, cause for celebration, especially by a "man" who had every indication of being insane. Karelin said, over and over again, that he not only desired to defeat opponents but to permanently injure them. This was not bullsh!t. He meant it, and succeeded in doing it with his Karelin slam, which deliberately tried to smash the opponent's head into the mat, "hopefully" crippling him. Some athletes even refused to compete against him.

Rulon Gardner competed and was one of the few strong enough so that Karelin couldn't flatten him out on the mat and then lift him for the headslam. Gardner had the strength, willpower, and technique to keep it a wrestling match, and won. Thus ended the win streak of the foulest, nastiest piece of garbage in the sport's world. Karelin couldn't take it. Every match which Rulon fought in the future, Karelin would show up, sit in the stands, and glower hatred at him.

How did "fans" react to Karelin?? He was not only named "Hero of Sport" in Russia, but was actually elected to political office by being popular. Idiots in our own country wish that he had come over here to fight in MMA, or some similar venue. "Wouldn't he be great??" Greatness, indeed. Karelin is a blot on Olympic history, and a statement of how far the human race has still to go.

Thank you Rulon Gardner, for a least one brief shining moment of justice.

I'm interested in the Taekwondo section of the Olympics.
Its a cool back story of the Mexican siblings, the Lopez family.
Besides, I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo so its very interesting to me. :)

Diving isn't fair. They judge the size of the splash. Of course you'll get a bigger plop out of an American than a Chinese.

Did anyone else notice the Grateful Dead-ish edge to the mens beach volleyball uniform?

Well, as usual, I am late to the party, but Kim Rhode in the skeet shoot. It was today & she blew the competition away! Haha! Seriously, she hit 99 out of 100 skeets. This was her fifth Olympics where she medaled. Also, 99 is the highest score ever! Us Mississippi folk likes us sum shootin'! Even if a person is not a gun enthusiast, watching her today would convert them. She was magical with that shotgun. When she missed the one skeet, I felt sick! I felt almost as bad as I did when ND played Colorado in the bowl game & they called TheRockets punt back that would have won the game (10-9 was the final).
