I think we'll become a player for Sickels (i.e. get an OV) if Sickels himself shows interest in ND. And I expect that to happen. No info, just a hunch.

I am with you Lax. I think the kid has a great motor and would be a great project for the CAT position. LB depth would be the key with this kid.

Didn't Ebenezer change his plans on his committing tomorrow?

Yes, he pushed it back.

The fact that we're still recruiting Deon Hollins and were recruiting Ogundeko leads me to believe strongly that Sickels, who is a very highly rated player with CAT written all over him, will be recruited as a pass rusher. Time will tell though.

Sickels is good, but I think the Muhammad kid from Don Bosco is better. I want ND to have room for him when his recruitment really gets started.

I wouldn't worry about it. Those in the know seem to take it for granted that our coaching staff will be holding a spot for Muhammad, but we'll be taking another ROLB regardless.

So hold a spot for Muhammad, then are we talking one spot for any of Sherit/Ogundeko/Sickells?
That would be great if we got 2 of those 4!

This year we have so many options on the D-Line and LB it seems. I really really really want Muhammad. I'm not familiar with Sickels and I like Sherit... Hopefully we get the best combo of players.

Per 247 He is emphatic that he will remain committed to Penn State because of the new staff.

We'll see... when he realizes that he is part of a small class going to a school where their current players are running from he may think twice. If that doesn't do it, maybe the fact that he wont play a bowl game the entire time in college may do it.

It's a loooong way to signing day.

The knee jerk loyalty will happen for a lot of these recruits. But a fall of going to camps and talking to other recruits, as well as hearing about player transfers, will start to weigh on them.

They they'll all say "It has nothing to do with the sanctions, my heart was just at school X instead of Penn St."

Honestly this doesn't make sense to me.

This is their logic:

@JShankerESPN: #PennState commit Brendan Mahon MT @BigBabyMahon Since when our bowl games more important then playing w/ a great group of kids and Coaches

@JShankerESPN: RT @BigBabyMahon Every Kids dream is to play in the NFL and Bill O'Brien and his staff will get me there

@JShankerESPN: RT @BigBabyMahon O'Brien has my back I have his #PennState2013

It sounds like Garrett does like the coaches and is being this vocal to try to keep most of the class together. But as others have said, if most of the top recruits start decomitting, the rest of the class will probably fall apart and I'm guessing Garrett won't be as committed as he seems to be now.

Also, gentlemen, even in this day when people generally view loyalty as an artifact of an archaic age, there are some who believe in never breaking a promise. This can be even when all sense would say that it is "smart" and even understandable to do so. Some folks are just raised that way. Maybe Garrett is that sort of young man.

We hope that he is more flexible, for our sakes, but we must admit that we honor the loyalty of a promise too, as part of what a Notre Dame man is about. Life decisions are really tough when you're young. Maybe his Dad or Mom who would have taught him that honor, will deeply discuss this with him and say: "this is a case where it's alright ,son".

But we ourselves should never say that we can't understand why someone would want to stand by his word. I'd like to see young Sickels come to Notre Dame, too. Sounds like a high character person, and he'd be doing himself a great life-expanding service.

As much as I would like him to come to ND, I tip my hat to him for being a class act. If he stays in Happy Valley, I wish him well.

He won't stay. None of them will stay. When they sit down and accurately reflect on whether they want to spend their entire career except for maybe their senior season not having any chance of competing for anything.... they will go somewhere else. Kudos to them for being loyal, but in the end they will make well-reasoned decisions in their best interest. And no one will blame them.

I know they are 17 year old kids...But us as Notre Dame fans have been down this path of a former New England assistant who will get them into the NFL.

What I have a problem with is these kids don't seem to care about winning. They will never be able to win a Big 10 championship or play in a BCS bowl or anything.

All I was trying to say is that for me personally, if I looked Brian Kelly in the eye and told him: "Coach, I'm with you. You can count on me.", it would be tough for me, with my upbringing, to go back on that promise, unless my dad would sit down with me and say: Mike, you gave your word; but this situation needs some thought. It's going to be hard but you may have to make a visit to the man.

I don't think that I or my family are entirely alone in such admittedly irrational promise-keeping. It IS obvious that this circumstance offers a completely understandable excuse for backing away. I'm saying that this is not easy if you were brought up with certain values. And, yes, I hope the young man comes to Notre Dame, unreservedly.
