What the **** is with Penn St. fans. First they bad mouth Alex because he is not picking their school. Saying that Alex is prima donna. Even though people keep saying his announcement time is up to the tv crews. Then they bash Neal for not showing up to his press conference, again not his fault. Now they are bashing Kelly. Say what you want about him being red face. The players love him. "hundreds of fans at our games", last time I check we sold out how many games straight. Then they are saying how terrible were going to do this years, going 4-8. What the **** have they done the last two years. We won the same number of games. **** PSU. They are right up there with USC and Michigan now. I got one word for you guys Sandusky. Sorry, congrats to Alex and Notre Dame. One more thing legitimate question which is better our oline class or linebackers.

Jerry Sandusky..enough said about PSU.

Not to mention that Joe Paterno was involved in the coverup. He practically led the coverup.

I live within a hour of Wyomissing. So I will probably see him play this year.

His high school is about two minutes away from my place. They play all their home games on Satuday afternoons. ND has quite a few night games this year.

Tailgate at my place for a Wyomissing home game, everyone get decked out in ND gear, then go over a few blocks to watch Alex tear it up. We'll also bully the PA announcer to play the ND Fight Song numerous times throughout the game.

Reading those posts between Manti and Alex, I got a little emotional --- rare for me at my age. Manti's story in all its spiritual and iconic dimensions will never be told, but Alex has a great chance to be a shining part of the Legend. What an honor, as a full human being not only a football player, to pick up the torch from Manti Te'o.

When I talked with Manti this spring...it was all about leaving a legacy at ND and he just wanted to leave a mark that people wont forget for a long time. That little twitter exchange is all coming from a convo they had on Alex's visit I would assume. Manti has a great way of motivating with his words, i feel that Anzalone might have taken those words and realized they were just words. Great pickup.

This solidifies and already impressive LB class. Welcome aboard, AA!

Have to also think that this (in addition to our impressive DL recruiting over the past couple years) helps our chances of attracting an elite DB, no? Who the hell wouldn't wanna play behind these beasts?

Agreed. It's crazy how much respect Manti has not only from his own teammates, but from prospective recruits and adults older than him like many of us. Besides his god given talent, he's just a natural leader. I think that alone will speak volumes for both the potential success of the defense and overall team this year and also his career down the road.

And on another note - I looked at OSU and Michigan boards after this happened, and the delusion under which they operate is comical to say the least. I notice on this board that even under our separate thread for Michigan recruiting, we acknowledge the talent they bring in and actually discuss the topic. But with Michigan, they spend half the time taking tired cliche shots at how long Alex will last with "purple faced Kelly." Or how Notre Dame is where talent goes to die. I loved seeing NDPhilly, Clashmore, and Buster sticking up for ND on respective boards, much props. As if Hoke or Meyer haven't ever yelled at a kid (or any other college coach for that matter). Or as if Michigan didn't just have a terrible stretch run and doesn't compare historically as a program to ND if we don't factor in the time frame before the advent of television. Or how Meyer is already having criminal difficulties with all his "talent" much like he did at Florida.

Get a clue.

You know I was just thinking about seeing an old History Channel show, How did States Got Their Shape, and they talked about the rivalry of the pOSU and scUM game as being a direct outgrowth of the Ohio - Michigan War. (Really happened, used to drink and the Michigan Tavern, site of the biggest battle.)

So, I realized that the rivalry of the ND, scUM game had a similar deepseated historical basis. Although it was a little darker. Anti Catholic and anti Irish prejudice. Listen to Youst or Chrystler, or any of them. They hated Catholics. And once the upstart university from Indiana beat them as if they fielded a team of fighting Irishmen, (ask BGIF) they tried to banish ND athletic teams from existence.

The **** you see on the UM boards is vestages of this blatant bigotry. The pOSU boards are just a measure of how much bigger than their britches the fans have gotten. Whatever you say about Woody, he had the utmost respect for ND, or the Irish and Catholic residents of Ohio.

I can definitely see that. Interesting way to put it. Even then Michigan refused to play ND for awhile if I remember correctly.

At the same time, I wonder if their fans even know their own history, or have the capability of learning.

You must not remember the Eifert - Jaylon Smith incident then...

Notre Dame’s Tyler Eifert Mentioned Recruit on Twitter, Committed NCAA Violation | The Big Lead

From what I understand, current players saying anything other than "Hello" to a recruit is frowned upon.

I do not know all the rules, but the main reason that was a violation was that Jaylon was coming for a visit and Eifert was tweeting about that. Don't ask me why the NCAA thinks that is worse then directly tweeting recruits at other times that doesn't involve a visit.

“A member institution shall not publicize (or arrange for publicity of) a prospective student-athlete’s visit to the institution’s campus,” the bylaw reads. “Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete’s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per Constitution 2.8.1.”

^^could it be because Jaylon wasn't an actual commit to ND yet whereas Alex pledged his commitment to ND before he and Manti exchanged those tweets?

I know it's just a verbal commitment just didn't know if that would be the difference.

Exact same cap as his buddy Jaylon Smith wore before his commitment.

And ESPN should take a note from Jaylon, headphones dont work with the hats, at least Jaylon is smart enough to recognize that!! I hate ESPN!!

AFAIK, being verbally committed doesn't change one's status regarding NCAA recruiting rules at all. Signed/ unsigned seems to be the only meaningful distinction.
