No need for him to take an official to ND when ND is only an hour and a half away and he can visit whenever he wants. Not saying we'll get him (I doubt we'll get him, actually) but when a recruit is that close I don't know if where he takes officials says too much about his interest in ND. Sometimes kids save up the officials for schools that are far away.

officials give kids the chance to spend time with the players and possibly other commits as well

Laquon tweeted this, it was retweeted by Jaylon Smith:

@SuccessfulQuon ND signed the #1 qb last year. And it's the spread. And it's an ND degree. Gotta talk to @JaeeSmiff9ENT

Laquon did not tweet that. Some random ND fan (@MikeMarkz) did, and Jaylon (but not 'Quan) retweeted it.

Kid's not coming to ND.

247 as a post in the Michigan site ( can't see unless you subscribe to the Michigan 247 site) about a possible commitment @ The Opening

Looks like Steve Wiltfong caught up w/ him @ The Opening after he tweeted this:

Laquon Treadwell ‏@SuccessfulQuon
So much going on my decision coming soon.

The Opening, Day 3 notebook - ESPN

"I'm hearing from Shane Morris, Jourdan Lewis, Ty Isaac and pretty much the whole Notre Dame crew," Treadwell said. "I'm still open. I am interested in Notre Dame too but I just don't have a close relationship with the coaches yet."

This kid seems to be up and down with each update. And I wonder how he doesn't have a close relationship yet... hasn't he been on campus a couple times? I'd assume that the staff is recruiting him relatively hard, unless they feel it's a lost cause to Michigan...

After he publicly says he has interest, but has not developed a close relationship with the coaches yet, I hope the staff makes another good run at him. He's quite the talent and would be a huge asset. Dont give up on him yet.

sure there's two sides to the story, but if he feels this way, this is a major mistake by the staff.

LSU offered yesterday which Laquon evidently appears to be pretty excited about

Allen Trieu ‏@AllenTrieu

Laquon Treadwell: "With this LSU offer it might shake up my recuriting just a little bit, who knows?"

Academics could be the reason for not pursuing him harder.

Then it wouldn't make sense that scUM is holding a spot for him. He also has a Vandy offer.

Can we try to not use "it must be the grades" as our go-to phrase for why our staff isn't pursuing a kid or vice versa? I have mentioned this before, but this is the phrase that other fanbases see as our "we dodged a bullet" or "Urbie must not have wanted him". Let's try to talk about that when we know it is indeed the issue and less of an excuse on why a recruit isn't coming.

PS - This isn't just you Philly, everyone on this board (including me) are guilty. I just think we are all better than that.

You always get bothered by this.... you did it on Kimbrough's thread too where I strongly disagreed with you.... but I do see where you're coming from here. It's far more likely in this situation that the staff, despite Treadwell's obvious talent, thinks its a waste of time to pursue him until he shows more serious interest back. Right now he clearly seems to be leaning towards Michigan or a southern school... that means he probably isn't going to be attracted to what ND is selling. Therefor, use your time elsewhere until he gives you a reason to pursue him... which he clearly hasn't. If he becomes a viable target I'm sure the staff goes all out.

In Philly'd defense, Anthony Standifer was from Treadwell's school and we all see what happened there. Had "offers" from all over, committed to Michigan... then academics seemed to be the issue for his decommit.... then looked like he was headed to ND but when we got a hold of his transcripts there were all kinds of issues involving foreign languages and other things. It was then made widely known that his school has a history of these kinds of issues.

One point of correction that is a huge pet peeve of mine, having a Vandy, ND, Stanford, Northwestern, etc. "offer" means nothing about ones overall grades, test scores, or academic eligibility. In almost all instances these days you have to "offer" someone before you know that you can accept them. See: Ifeadi Odenigbo and Stanford last year, Byron Marshall and ND last year, etc. There are literally hundreds of examples of kids receiving offers and then not being able to qualify... either by the school's academic standards or the baseline NCAA minimums.

haha... after I pressed submit, I said to myself "I bet LAX responds to this".

That's a solid point you bring up above that I wasn't really thinking about. Despite that, if you look through all of the threads of recruits we missed on, you will see one recurring theme... the "he must not have had the grades", and while a lot of the time this may even be true, other fanbases make fun of us constantly about this. I have a couple scUM buddies that make jokes about it to me on a weekly basis.

Believe it or not, there are some kids that scUM "dodged a bullet" on. There are kids that "Urban must not have wanted", and there are certainly kids that "must not have the grades" for Notre Dame. But to say it for every single recruit that doesn't commit is silly and we are better fans than that. I feel we are a VERY intelligent group of fans on this board. So my request is that we try to maintain a level of realism with these kids. That's all.

If Laquon was a good fit for Notre Dame, then our staff would have interest. He is too good for them not to. It's not the grades.
