I like this pick up for several reasons, one of which is that with Matuska, Mattingly, and even Robinson in the fold, I definitely feel like one of them could be moved to TE...allowing the staff to continue to go hard after multiple DL's, LB's, and even WR's for 2013 without getting caught up in the specific numbers at each position.

That's a good point.

Also, knowing that a kid from Spokane, Washington (basically Idaho) not only caught the eye of Nick Saban, but was athletic enough for the Evil Emperor of Alabama to offer him a scholarship in hopes of getting him to come ~1,850 to play on his dominant defense.....is uber exciting.

He good.

Although I think he'd make a great DOG, I have a gut feeling he does end up a TE.

Very excited to finally get a kid from Spokane playing for the Irish! His brother was a good one at WSU but had a few off the field issues (see frying pan incident). I'm gonna have to try to get out and watch a few games this fall. The Spokane high school league is pretty weak competition, but he is in the highest WA classification - 4A.

Do we know what linebacker position he will play? He seemed like a Dog but so does Jaylon. Could Mattingly move inside possibly.

This is what I'm hoping happens. The kid plays like a young Urlacher with his great hands and playing in space.

DOG or WILL.

Jaylon is likely to play either CAT or WILL... or maybe even DOG... really, Jaylon can play freaking anywhere he wants except maybe MIKE.

Yep, I like this idea. Then Jaylon at DOG, Anzalone (fingers crossed) at MIKE and Ogundeko/Drennon/Demetrius Cooper or someone at CAT.

Jaylon will be dog. So is Mattingly. Someone said something about bulking him up and playing him inside.

For all of you keeping score, a good Irish Catholic family, nine kids. Plenty of sisters.

Jaylon will definitely play DOG LB. To play DOG, you need to be versatile, with good run defense, able pass coverage with a possibility to rush the passer. Jaylon is a good run stopper, who's great in coverage and a great pass rusher.

Our LB corps is shaping up nice.

Danny's sister...she's a goddess. If I go to a ND game and see her I'm dropping to a knee and proposing on spot.

Jaylon will definitely play DOG LB..

It's fun to say things as stone cold facts when they're pure conjecture, isn't it?

EDIT: To elaborate, Jaylon is too flexible to be "definitely" going to play one position or another. Most think he projects best inside at WILL, and the logic exists for him to play DOG for everything people have mentioned... he's a beast in coverage. Of the three, most think he'd be the worst fit at CAT but CAT is arguably the most important position of the 4 so it's very plausible to see him there if someone like Mattingly or Councell develops into a great DOG LB and we don't have anyone showing brilliance at CAT. The 3-4 defense we play simply cannot function at a high level without a star playing CAT. The only certainty is that he won't play MIKE.

I think what you're most likely to see when this class steps on campus is him playing DOG or WILL to start. You're going to have Fox/Calabrese as potential returning 5th year seniors at WILL... so it might be tough to break through there.... or it might easy as none have shown any brilliance at this point in their careers. At CAT, Shembo/Ishaq should hopefully have CAT on lockdown. DOG? Well, Danny Spond will be a senior and could develop into a player this year... and besides that you only really have Ben Councell. So at one position you're going to have (potentially) two 5th year seniors... neither of which has shown much.... and at the other you'll have a senior and player who hasn't seen the field yet. But while those are his easiest routes onto the field, it's important to realize that we have so far landed ZERO CAT prospects in the past two classes and if that pattern holds it's extremely plausible if not likely that Jaylon would end up over there.

Man that hurts my feelings and I feel worthless

Man I feel your pain! It must be awful having all of that massive skill, and only be valued for the little inconsequencial things.

Here:

What do you think about our chances with a certain Fla Lb who has been visiting, whoa, is he a monster, or what?

Where do you think they will use Mattingly; what do you think of the rumors about them using him inside? If you see him i/s and Alex as will, Mike? (There would be a tad more coverage, wouldn't there?)

One more note: I am Irish from a big family, and I have to ask you why you insist talking about his sister in this thread so much, Threatening to get down on one knee and propose is okay I guess, because I can just see that in the stadium, but on and on: Tá sé an truflais!
