Gunner Kiel, a year more mature than the gentlemen you speak of, certainly would have a better shot and a year of run time prior to the next kid in line in your scenario.

I wouldn't think this to cause him to shy away.

My prediction: Kiel will succeed Landry Jones at Oklahoma. Landry may be gone this year, but more than likely he'll play one more year before he goes as a first round draft pick.

And then Blake Bell probably transfers.

His final 4 are:

OU, Mizzou, Bama, and Michigan

Gunner's dad refutes this today per ISD, and said they are still interested in ND. Could be lip-service, but I will take him at his word.

I'm not saying that I think we lead for him or anything, i'm just saying that I am backing off of the ledge. I think too many people are jumping ship because of a random tweet from a scUM fan.

I read that he is still considering ND, for what its worth.

All is right in the world again.

We still probably wont get him, but at least I don't have to return Dr Kevorkian's phone call. For now...

Is Kiel mobile enough to run the occasional option read for us?

While Kiel might be the heir apparent to Landry Jones if he went to Oklahoma, my brother who is a huge Oklahoma fan (and he is on some of their forums) told me that Drew Allen almost beat out Landry Jones for the back-up job to Sam Bradford and that some of the knowledgable people on the forums there thought Drew Allen was better then Landry Jones in practice back then. Now that info is about 2 years old but I don't think Kiel would just be handed the job, he would have to beat out Drew Allen the number 16 rated Pro style QB, in his class and Blake Bell the #6 pro style QB in his class and both with much more experience in the system. He might have to sit a few years there before playing.

he's going to OU, its a lock. I have always thought that...I also think ND never really had a chance because of all the QB's stacked up right now...and Golson is going to get his PT as a full time starter (maybe in 2 years, only an injury should keep him from that - Golson is BK's 'matt leinart'; he is BK's hand-picked guy to run his offense), so Kiel would have to wait until Golson is no longer starting a couple/few years down the road. Kiel isnt going to wait for that...its all good tho, I think ND has the QB(s) they need.

He's gonna be at OSU this weekend for the Elite 11 camp, should be interesting to see what he has to say cuz i'm sure recruiting media is going to be all over him for some answers.

WE do not need him, let him have a nice life, and if he chooses UM, then I hope he takes a beating from ther Irish.

A whole lotta nothing:

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Don't expect too many big announcements out of Gunner Kiel (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) in regards to his recruitment.

The Under Armour All-American has kept things very close to the vest thus far and will continue to do so until he's ready to make a final announcement.

"It's going to be a personal decision and one that I'm going to keep with myself and my family," Kiel said. "Whenever I'm ready to make that decision I'm going to tell my family, my coaches and my teammates before it gets to the public."
Gunner Kiehl is planning on having a quiet summer, except for the Elite 11 nationals in California.
Kiel is often linked to Notre Dame and Oklahoma among other schools but he is careful not spend much time talking about any particular program.

"I appreciate all of the schools that have shown interest in me," he said.

He's also going to keep a very quiet summer schedule. Outside of the Elite 11 national showcase in California, Kiel says he's going to spend a lot of time with his teammates.

"I'm going to base my summer around my team and working with those guys so we can all get better," said Kiel. "I'm going to put those guys ahead of me."

Kiel also mentioned that both of his brothers, Drew and Dusty, will be home for the summer. Drew was a quarterback for Northern Illinois and Dusty will be a redshirt sophomore quarterback at Indiana this fall.

i really like that decision...this guy has offers from all over the country and is rated by most as the top QB in the country...he has nothing else to prove to anybody. good for him. the only thing now that will help his stock rise would be a solid senior year and the only way to achieve that is to ensure that he's on the same page with his teammates.

At this point, I am starting to think Kiel is the best QB on the board--by a pretty good margin. He is local and high character. We are in an ideal position to hold out. If we swing and miss, it will not be the end of the world, even if we miss on Mauk (who I like). We already have good depth, we can always pick up someone with some talent later, and if we win a lot this year, someone good is going to want to jump on board anyway.

Whether Kelly is holding out for Kiel, or Mauk or Kiel, he seems to be thinking pretty much the same thing based on the small number of QB offers that have gone out.

Dusty Kiel Straight winners on facebook... Get off the kids nitskeezes. Cream and crimson let's gooo!

ND fans starting an argument on Gunners facebook page. This is what his brother posted. For some strange reason i think this kid ends up at IU with his bro or Boomer Sooner.

As long as no Michigan I'm fine. I think a couple of us predicted IU awhile ago. He gave an honest interview a long time ago before recruiting really picked up where Michigan, ND and IU were the only ones that really fit his criteria... then Oklahoma snuck in and seemed to "lead" but I really think he stays in the Midwest.

Is there a Kiel lovechild that we are unaware of?

Or do I have to wait for Gunner to knock up an Sooner co-ed?

I consider it a win if he goes to Indiana (which I really think is where he ends up). I'm totally happy passing on a QB in this cycle if Gunner doesn't want to come here.

Bummer with Blair being such a great QB for the Irish... but oh well.
