I like Weis, but I must say that I am on the fence about him, I know that no coach is responsible for a fumble, missed fg, or interception. The hit on Clausen would have made some fullbacks fumble. The pic inside the 5 was a total miscommunication. The two missed fg's, that sort of thing happens now and then even with good kickers, just ask Jason Elam of the Falcons. after missing two that were definitely in his range. But that being said what if the record was reversed, say we were 3-6 and the six losses were attributed to turnovers and missed fg's Which, by the way, is the reason most teams lose, good teams and bad teams both. What about penalties, if there is an offside penalty or holding penalty, it is not the coach that that jumps offsides or holds, yet anyone who knows football will tell you it is a lack of discipline and execution, and attribute that to the coach. They say the same thing about turnovers, not individually but as a whole. ND hired Weis to make the team better in wins and losses, yes he has made the team better talent wise, but it has yet to equate to wins and losses. This is where the frustration comes from. What is the point of having better players if the result is the same? I know that Tenuta is the defensive coordinator, but is he not the head coach? Is he not Tenuta's boss? Is this not his second defensive coordinator? Did he hire both?
These are all questions I have. I became an ND fan when Theisman was QB and have been one ever since. I literally cried when I watched a ND team take a 24-6 lead in a halftime to USC and then lose 55-24. Watching the same thing over and over in the second half of that game. I feel like I am watching the same thing season after season. No real domination on the field. Close wins, against teams we should destroy. Absolutely, no defense on a consistent basis. We blowout Nevada then lose a close game to Michigan, we blowout Wash State, then lose a close one to Navy. I know that a coach has his specialty, like Nick Saban and defense. (Wow! what a team that would be ND's offense and Alabama's defense)
I get two conflicting arguments, Weis can recruit, Willingham couldn't. Weis took us to two BCS bowls, Willingham didn't. But didn't Willigham recruit the Juniors and Seniors that palyed in those games? I reiterate; I was happy to get Weis, However, I am on the fence about his future. I want him to succeed, for the teams sake. As I said in another thread; I like Weis, but I love ND.
