One of my father in law's treasures (one exactly like this). It's an Avanti by Studebaker. He has an unbelievable Studebaker and motorcycle collection.

Dude, one of the two awesome cars I drove in when I was a kid was an Avanti! The other was a Pantera. The Studebaker was an unbelievably advanced vehicle, and the Pantera was so freaking underrated I couldn't believe it. I don't understand all the ins and outs but De Tomaso apparently bought two different powerplants for the car. Both 350ish. The initial one was high compression and the other was designed for meeting as$-kissing EPA standards. Some of the original motors were found after the production details were ironed out that so plagued the first couple model years. My dad's friend, found this out, and refitted his with original equipment. We had the best dynometer in the area available through a family connection (Champion Spark Plug) so we tested it, that little thing was putting out damn near 400bhp with high compression gaskets and vacuum nonsense stripped off!

Both cars were owned by my dads two best friends (in my eyes, LOL!)

I drove the Avanti but never a Pantera. How did it handle?

You can get this car in a complete kit from a company called Factory Five and build it on the cheap. I've wanted to build a 33 for a long time.

Yeah I'd love to build one and paint it turquoise with yellow flames.

I don't usually care for economy cars, but there is just something about this one.

it's the 78/79 with the aggressive front end that gets me going on those things. Hard to find one in excellent condition without monster lift kits to use as a daily. Due to that, I have also researched 78 through 1983. After that IMO, they look like bricks-still bad*ss, but a bad*ss brick.

It was the best GT I ever drove. It was way tighter and more explosive out of the corners than you would expect. It gave you that extention of your body feel. You felt the road, but it didn't beat you to death, well almost. And it had major go. Like I aluded to, I think the engine was under rated by about 80hp! Think of that; over 20%! I did 360's at the corner of Airport and Holland-Sylvania, for those of you who know were that is, in three cars. And it was a real show in the Pantera.

For the rest of you, that is the intersection on which my former High School, the venerable St. Johns Jesuit HS sits. Danny, the guy that owned the Pantera was an attorney and graduate of the old St Johns, and he told me that he gave them enough money that I could do one in the parking lot too!

To answer your question. I thought it was a beast!

unreachable dream

A dream in only unreachable for three reasons:

1) You don't really want it badly enough.
2) You don't believe in yourself enough.
3) A higher power is protecting you from yourself.

JMHO :)

My first car was a '69 Camaro. My Dad was a mechanic and he started taking me to junk yards when I turned 12. We found a body, nothing but the body and bought it for $100. It took us 3 and a half years and a lot of free labor from me in his shop, but we were able to find everything to restore it. The only things we didn't do ourselves was the paint job and recovering the interior (we found an interior in a barn. The guy that owned the car had wrecked it and put it in his barn. It had only sat there for 10 plus years HAHA) I had a grand total of $1,225 in that car. Sold it when I was 17 to a guy a a Super Chevy Rally in Memphis, TN. He saw my buddies and I pull up in it and he offered me $10,000 cash for it. Like the idiot I am, I jumped on it. Regret it more and more each day!

My dad had 2 Maseratis when I was growing up and I loved those.

I like the new ones.

Of course with twins coming, I will have to put that dream on hold for now. No way the wife lets me get a new car right now. LOL

68 Mustang GT with the fastback for me and a Jeep Wrangler for my girl.

I like orange. And I know that's a pic of a toy, but that's how I'd like mine to look! EDIT: Thought the stripes were white, I want white.

I'm sure my lady would like this shade of blue...

So, the toy would work for you? Is that what you are trying to say?
