Betances in mid-season form ...

Betances in mid-season form ...

Comes in to pitch the 9th and walks the first two batters.

Kahnle relieves Betances with nobody out and gives up a single to load the bases.

With an 8 run lead Chapman is now up throwing in the bullpen.

Kahnle gets a K, then walks in a run, 8-1.

Altuve hits into game ending DP.

Houston leads the series, 2-1.

Six Unanswered Runs = New Series

Six Unanswered Runs = New Series

Down 4-0, a Judge mammoth HR gets NY on the board in the 7th. In the 8th Yanks batted around for a 4 more runs and a 6-4 lead. Chapman was perfect in the 9th to close out the game.

Somehow slightly favored at home tomorrow against Keuchel. Would be HUGE to run the 'stros out of town licking their wounds.

Would love to see Judge lay off those crappy pitches, but he's young and should become more selective as he gains experience.

Need to head back to Houston up 1 to have a chance.

I do not like the Yankees -I am an Indians fan- but this postseason is basically Exhibit A of why the Yankees are the Yankees. They win when they are the underdog. And they win when they are the favorite. They win. A lot.

Yanks Take 3-2 Series Lead With Shutout

Yanks Take 3-2 Series Lead With Shutout

Tanaka was in control, 7 innings 3 hits, 1 BB, 8 K, NO Runs on 103 pitches. Tanaka's ERA dropped to 0.65

Kahnle give up 1 hit over the last 2 innings to preserve the shutout.

5 of NY's 10 hits were for extra bases. Sanchez had a HR while Judge, Castro, Headley, and Gregorius had doubles. Headley was 3-4 in the 9th slot.

Since the All-Star Break including post season Tanaka is 7-1 with a 0.96 ERA. Opponents are hitting .179 and he is averaging 11.6 K/9. Only 3 HRs allowed.

Guess who's up for free agency?

Fire!

But I’m not sure Yankees should sign him to a big long term contract worth big money.

I saw Tanaka live in spring training a few times this year and he was as close to untouchable as can be (I know it's only spring training but still). I was convinced something wasn't right first half of the year as he had no where near the command and precision he showed in spring training. I know he DL'd a a few times but never really saying much. Had to have been something more than they let on. He has his moments where he loses command and hangs balls but the rate he was getting pounded suggested a bigger issue...This was the pitcher the spent the big $ on and he's finally delivering in the clutch. Will be interesting to see what they do with him in feee agency.

I'm nervous for a let down. This felt like a game 7 but we still need one more. That being said, a bit of the 90's magic seems to be in the air. Even though Verlander was great against us game 1, I still think we can hit him. We have in the past and no pitcher this postseason has had 2 good starts against us. Just need to be patient and grind...samething that has gotten them to this point!

They're probably the healthiest they've been all season as a team.

Still as young as this team is, they should have folded the tents after getting down against Cleveland and Houston. Silly kids don't know better.

Verlander looked good the first time around. Let's hope he doesn't quite have it Friday. Even if this goes 7, I like our chances. Pressure is already on Houston and will just get bigger for a game 7.

This team has a great combination of youth and veteran leadership. Hoping they can get to Verlander like they did Keuchel. You have to capitalize on their few mistakes and get to that bullpen. Severino has been awesome this year, he’s really gained control. Scary what the bullpen would be even more so if Betances could throw strikes.
Stadium has been rocking again, which is always fun to be part of. I just miss the old place where there weren’t all the bars and places to hang out. It looks like empty seats, but people just aren’t sitting there. I’m getting a 96 feeling with these kids here hope they close it out tomorrow night, then I get to watch the Irish drop SC.

Awesome to see the Bronx rocking again! Feels like the 90's even though I'm a few hundred miles away now.

Agreed -- the playoff crowd at Yankee Stadium hasn't changed. Any positive is met with roars and raucous applause...sends chills down my back.

Clutch CC on the mound tonight against the Astros starter who's appeared most mortal of them this series. Gotta love that match-up for an away Game 7. Composure at bat, an early lead, and mistake-free play are what the Yanks need to celebrate in Houston.

Big Yankee fan but I admit I don't have a lot of faith in CC. He was in my opinion given way too much credit for pitching a "great" game against Cleveland but the fact is he did not even get through five inning. CC is a 70-80 pitch pitcher at this point in his career. Best hope is that the Yanks score early and we can get to the bullpen with a lead going into the fifth.

How about game 3?

Girardi's postseason plan has been the Yankee starter is the first one out of the bullpen. Obviously the longer CC can pitch the less the others have to handle.

Pitched great but it is not like he has electric stuff. This is the second time around with Houston in the last week and I just don't see him duplicating game 3 effort. I really hope he surprises me.

No the good thing is that they may be able to outhit Houston. Morton does not scare me which means he will pitch 8 innings of shut out ball. LOL

Girardi gone. Michael Kay called this on his radio show last month. Curious to see who they grab with this roster.

I thought if he left it'd be on his terms, sounds like the Yanks let him go... if so, wow.

Yeah, the way he made it sound was that 8-10 years is enough time in one place. I guess it was pretty well known in the organization that he wouldn't be back after his contract ran out. Kind of strange, but I'll assume there wasn't much love lost between him and Cashman.

The fact that they were in the ALCS means they were behind the curve on top head coaching candidates lol. Almost like you shouldn’t fire a coach when he was the existentence of Justin Verlander away from a World Series, in a rebuilding year no less.
