I was bummed they didn't go after (strongly) another starting pitcher before the trade dead-line. Still a long way to go but I'm pretty jazzed as to where they are right now and how they are playing. we are certainly getting a lot of offense.

Me too. Offense comes and goes. Strong pitching can get you though the low spots.

Past couple of games the bottom of the the Yankee order has been swinging the hot bats tonight's it the #s 2, 3, 4, and 5 hitters bunching the hits together and scoring a bunch of runs, 8 hits in 14 ABs, 10 RBI, 7 runs scored.

Tanaka left with no outs in the 7th after giving up an HR. In the bottom of the inning Ellsbury got on with a dropped throw error. A walk set ARod up for an RBI single but a runner got hung up between 2nd and 3rd. Boston couldn't make the out.

McCann hitting 6-8 against Breslow put a 2-2 pitch 400 feet into the RF lower deck to break the game open with 3run HR. A couple more hits took it to 10-3. Young took the reliever's first pitch into the LF seats for the 13 run pool, 13-3.

NY had 10 hits in the 6th & 7th innings, 6 for extra bases.

Yankees making some changes.

Yankees put OF Dustin Ackley on DL, recall RP reliever Caleb Cotham.

OF Mason Williams to have shoulder surgery later this week and will be out for the season.

Pineda to DL expected to be all of August.

Mitchell leaves the rotation to go to bullpen.

Severino gets MLB debut Wednesday.

Comparable stats but one got the "W" while the other got the "L".

W: M. Tanaka 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 3 K, 1 BB, 88 PC
L: H. Owens 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 K, 1 BB, 96 PC

The NY bullpen in 4 innings scattered 3 hits and allowed no runs.

The BoSox relievers 5 innings allowed 9 runs.

Blue Jays...

Nice lineup and apparently all Price needed was a different shade of blue to get by the Yanks. Time to buck up boys.

My respect for the Yanks is well documented, but if I may:

I'm all for the Jays making a run... they are now the only franchise in baseball with basically nothing to their name in the last 20 years...

A Jays/Pirates World Series would be awesome for just about any baseball fan...

The Jays have won it a lot more recently than most AL teams. I think a Cubs/Yankees World Series would have the highest ratings. Not sure anyone would tune into Jays/Pirates but I understand what you're saying.

If the Yankees aren't in it I think the most exciting series would be Cubs/Royals.

I'm so down for subway series...Mets/Yankees

If Yankees are not in it...Royals/Mets would be sweet.

The Mets starters just get me excited, especially with Matz due back soon.

I actually completely forget about the Mets. I would like to see them in it too. Their players are so damn likeable.

Two weeks ago NY had a 7 game lead. Now it's a 1/2 game.

90 runs scored and 21 HRs in 10 games. 1-5 in last 6 games. With the exception of Nova giving up a grand slam the starters have done well.

Severino has pitched well in both starts but he's got no run support and lost the first start by an unearned run.

Yanks put some hits together in the 9th tonight then Wilson failed in the bottom of the 9th allowing the tie leading to the 16th inning loss.

Jays stayed hot with another win.

Wasted another solid pitching effort with run scoring limited to another solo HR.

Yanks lost 5 in a row scoring 6 runs.

Jays take over 1st place.

Eovaldi trys to stop the bleeding Thursday.

Got home just in time to see Gardner slap the single to left to get run number 8. Blue Jays can't maintain this torrid pace. Get back on track and take the series from Toronto and world order will be reinstated.

NY Retake 1st Place

NY Retake 1st Place

Shutout again through 7 and a 1/3 the Yankees scored 4 times including a 3 run pitch hit HR by Beltran in the 8th for a 4-3 lead.

Miller pitched the 9th and made the game exciting. A walk, a single up the middle, and a wild pitch put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Tulowitzki had a 12 pitch at bat but Miller prevailed with a K ending Jays 11 game win streak.

Was hoping to take 2 out of 3 from the Blue Jays, mission accomplished. A win tomorrow would be the cherry on top.

NY wasted another good outing by Luis Severino in a 3-1 loss. In 6 innings he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, 3 BB, 9 K on 104 pitches. The 9Ks are the most by the youngest NY rookie since 1914.

Severino lost his shutout when Beltran lost a 2 out fly ball in the sun and played it into a double. It was initially scored an error but later changed to a hit. An RBI followed single followed and Batista hit a 2 run HR. If Beltran fields the ball the inning was over with no runs scored.

NY scored there only runner on a solo HR by Ellsbury. NY only had 4 hits.

Monday Sabathia starts against Minn.

They're 1/2 game ahead of Toronto.

Michell knocked out in the second by a line drive that hit him in the head. Cotham in relief of the injured starter.

NY leads 3-1 on McCann 3 run HR. Yanks finally got some base runners on when the long ball got hit.

Mitchell has a broken nose.

NY leads the Jays by a game.

Twins broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 7th on a 2 run HR followed by a bunch of singles for a 4-1 lead. After the stretch, NY loaded the bases on a Headley pinch hit single followed by pair of walks. ARod then brought them all in with a centerfield Grand Slam. HR #25 on the season and 25th Grand Slam, the MLB record.

End of 7-1/2 NY 5 - 4 Sabathia pitcher of record.
