Down go the Rays, 3-2 in 11.

Nova only gave up 2 runs on 6 hits over 6+ innings but he walked 6. Defense and the bullpen bailed him out. Four double plays and Stewart threw out a pair of base runners as the relievers held TB scoreless. Rivera needed only 6 pitches for the Save.

This was NY's opportunity to pick up ground on TB and Bos. But TB takes a pair and the Bosox stun the Dodgers.

Poor Hughes can't catch a break. On the occasions when he's pitched well there's no run support. Last night he was pitching scoreless ball in the second when there was an hour and a half weather delay. He was finished for the night. After the delay the Yankds score 9 and Huff gets the win in relief.

Jeter got 2 hits. He's one behind Eddie Collins for 9th place on the hit list and 6 behind Molitor for 8th.

NY way back of BOS, 8 but only 2 behind in crowded Wild Card battle. They have one left with Chisox then 4 with BOS, 3 with Balt, 3 with BOS, a couple with TB, and with Toronto. Also have series left with SF and HOU. Perfect schedule to win the pennant ... Providing they run the table. They have to essentiall sweep 14 games with BO'S, TB, and BALT and win most all of the bottom feeders. They don't have the pitches if they got consistent hitting.

HUGE win for the Sox last night. They're way ahead but there was still that uneasy feeling heading into the game, which got much worse in the 7th. for them to pull out that game was enormous, esp with the Rays losing. Would be very nice to bury the Yanks' season this weekend.

It's not shaping up like '78. Yanks used a big inning to take the lead as they did with Chisox but the bullpen couldn't stifle the Bosox bats.

Between BOS Balt and TB too much in a hurry for The Old Men and Replacements.

NY has scored 8 runs or more in each of their last 3 games against Boston. Unfortunately the Sox have scored 9 runs or more in each of those games.

Huff proved today that Hughes is not the worst starter on the NY roster. Huff had the Sox hitting line drives early and often, some hit the wall, several were over.

Boston getting the brooms out for Sunday.

Jeter left the game after reinjuring his rebuilt ankle while running out a single. He's 3 hits behind Molitor for 8th place on the All-Time Hit list. He's hitting .190 and limping.

Late last night ESPN shifted fron a CFB segment to one on MLB. Nomar Garciaparra discussed Jeter's latest injury. He showed a clip from Saturday's game where Jeter fielded a ground ball to the right of second base. He then did a kind of awkward two step shuffle to come back and step on 2nd base. The extra little shuffle steps resulted in Jeter hopping on the bag for a force play then leaping in the air to get over the high sliding runner from first that successfully broke up the DP.

After showing the clip in slo mo, Nomar demonstrated the footwork that should have happened versus what Jeter actually did. Nomar fielded an imaginary ball hit to the right of second. He explained how it is necessary for a SS to first plant his left foot and then push off of that planted foot to reverse direction to get back to the bag. Because Jeter's left ankle is the rehabbed one, he could not plant the subjecting it to severe compression and then spring off it, necessitating the short shuffle steps.

After that play Saturday, Jeter remained in the game but clips showed him trying to flex the ankle gingerly. He started Sunday's game but apparently reinsured the ankle running out a base hit in the 6th. Reynolds immediately came in for him as a pinch runner.

Sunday night Yankee management acknowledged Jeter was getting an MRI of the ankle.

I hate this for Jeter. I'm not a Yankees fan, actually quite the opposite. I don't like them. But you have to respect Jeter. There aren't many like him.

Last night the Yanks prevented a Bos sweep with a 9th inning win. Mo lost a win for Kuroda when he came up a tying HR to the first batter he faced. In the Yankees at bat, Suzuki manufactured a run for the win. He singled, stole second, advanced to 3rd on a fly to right, and scored on a wild pitch.

NY opens an 11 game road trip tonight in Balt. CC pitches.

NY 2-1/2 behind Tx in Wild Card. They probably need 9 or 10 wins unless TX and others all fold. 4 games with Balt, 3 with BOS, 3 with Tor. NY has losing road record this season.

Slip Slidin' Away

Slip Slidin' Away

NY lost to Balt 4-2 dropping 3 behind TB in the Wild Card.

Jeter DNP will be evaluated Tuesday.

C.C. only gave 7 hits but 4 were doubles, 3 ER but that was too much.

Joe is a dumbass manager. He is lucky he didn't say that crap to the right person and see him get his blocked knocked off.

NY has picked up 2 games the past 2 nights winning both nights while their competitors didn't. They're 1 game behind in the WC race.

Hughes pitches Thursday against the O's then NY goes to Boston to live or die.

Jeter Done For '13

Jeter Done For '13

NY put Jeter on the 15 day DL with a weakened ankle. According to his doctor there is not enough time left in the season for him to recover. He will not be available for the post-season according to Cashman.

As for retirement, Cashman said "I have not watched [Jeter's] last game. No one has."

It would be sad to go out the back door.

Yanks need to win next 3 against Baltimore or I think Wild Card chances are dead.

They got your 3 wins against the O's. They're 1 game behind Texas and TB in the WC.

Now on to Boston.

Fri Kuroda v Lackey
Sat CC v Lester
Sun Nova v Bucholtz

Gardner Gone

Gardner Gone

Strained an oblique in the first inning.

Not expected to play for a month which eliminates the rest of the season and a big chunk of the playoffs if NY gets that far.

Man has any other team out there went through this kind of injury woes? I mean at this point its almost comical how it keeps happening. Instead of 'next man in' its been 'next man injured' yet those 'next men in' keep doing the job...If Joey G does not get Manager of Year it'll be a joke!

A couple of weeks ago they set a new franchise record for most players used in a season.

Kuroda got rocked for 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Yanks battled back to tie in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the inning Saltlamacchia smacked a grand slam off Kuroda for an 8-4 win.

Cano was 4-4 but didn't get much help.

Congratulations to the BoSox fans on the board!

Three WSCs in ten years. Sounds like a dynasty arising.

Thanks. The Sox simply sandbagged everyone into thinking they were incapable of winning for 86 years. #wolfinsheepsclothing

Prince Hal: Steinbrenner, Yankees big players at next week's meeting - CBSSports.com

By John Heyman 11/8/13

The Yankees have to be considered the favorite to retain star second baseman Robinson Cano, but they are also looking closely as the four players just below Cano on this year's agent list -- Jacoby Ellsbury, Shin-Soo Choo, Masahiro Tanaka and Brian McCann -- and maybe a dozen players, or more, overall.

...

Also on the Yankees' expansive list for interest this time are Drew and pitchers Matt Garza, Ubaldo Jimenez, Bronson Arroyo, Scott Feldman and Dan Haren. One big free-agent name conspicuously absent from their list of top targets is pitcher Ervin Santana, as people who have talked to the Yankees said they aren't convinced he's right for New York
.

Kind of want Mattingly.
He needs to win a ring in pinstripes.
