Let's not forget. Besler had been playing for 90 minutes... Lukaku for 2... Who had the fresher legs at that point

True, and I didn't mean to blame Besler either. Just saying the game didn't really come down to any one play; it could have turned on many different plays.

I would have loved to see this year's team with the 2018 versions of Deandre Yedlin, Julian Green, and Gedion Zelalem. Our wing play would instantly go from poor to great.

I hope JK spends the next year developing our young talent to be ready for the Gold Cup. Also any word on the south American tournament being in the US in 2016 and if the US will play in it?

Yes we will be hosting and playing in the Copa America in 2016... Oddly, Mexico regularly plays in that thing.... may be the first step towards just making it a Northern and Southern American thing... who knows?

Its gonna be an epic month of soccer in summer 2016... June 3-26 you have the Copa America in the US. 10 South American teams, the US, Mexico, and 4 other CONCACAF teams to be determined will be playing in that. Then starting June 10-July 10 is Euro 2016...

I will be intersted to see what happens with CONCACAF's qualifying number for Russia... I honestly expect it to rise by one team.

To a solid 4? or 4.5?? That # could hinge on the backs of the Costa Ricans... Plus, Honduras kinda shit the bed for us...

We had four teams and three made it through, and the math just dones't add up when you compare world rankings... AFC, CON, and Euro could all lose a spot or a half imo... I expect to see CONCA move to to 4.5 soon enough... the way it is now makes zero sense.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you, but I feel you could make the argument that outside of the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and usually Honduras, CONCACAF doesn't deserve more than what they have now. Just like with the AFC only having really South Korea, Japan, and sometimes Australia, there really aren't any teams outside of the top 4 in CONCACAF that deserve to go. I think CONMEBOL's performance the past two cups definitely warrants at least one more spot before CONCACAF gets one.

I totally agree. CONCACAF has demonstrated that its best teams can compete with anybody, but I don't think it has demonstrated that it has the depth to warrant additional spots in the World Cup finals. As you said in an earlier post, the fact that Honduras was TERRIBLE in this World Cup really undermines any argument that CONCACAF deserves additional spots, imo.

(Of course, on the other hand, you could say that the fact that Honduras qualified ahead of Mexico, which looked great and came close to beating a world power in the knockout round, means something.)

So you think CONMEBOL should have what, seven, out of nine countries making the WC, adding who? Venezula??? At a certain point the precentage of teams from your region has to play into it imo... I think Panama is really close to Costa Rica and Canada is not too far from them and Hondurus either... I'm all for a 4.5 and having our fifth team play in rather than our fourth... Again, making this point must be held to what other regions get... not just looking at what CONCACAF currently does or does not.. AFC getting more than us is just stupid as is just about every nation in South America getting in.

CONMEBOL only has 4.5 spots. 5.5 this cycle because Brazil was the host.

The past two world cups, CONMEBOL has been the best, sending 10 of the 11 participants to the Round of 16. The only team not to make the knockout rounds was Ecuador, and they missed by a hair.

In contrast, UEFA has only sent 12 out of 26 participants to the Round of 16.

Based off performance, who deserves more spots?

I'm all for kicking Europe out of the tournament all together... just for the record.

(Unless Scotland qualifies, then of course this post shall be stricken from the record forever).

After seeing the replays, I am almost in as much disbelief that Dempsey didn't finish it on that set piece as I am with Wondo. His first touch was pathetic and even then all he had to do was put it a little to the right and he had a goal. Instead he kicked it right at the keeper

These are hilarious. Tim Howard put on one the best goalkeeping performances I have ever seen. He shouldn't have had to, but what a performance.

This is my favorite 30 for 30 by far. Colombia's keeper was nuts in every sense of the word, be it the scorpion kick in goal or helping Pablo Escobar with some stuff haha.

Higuita was truly crazy! I did not realize what the team went through until this 30 for 30.
