His (Jamel James) recruitment has got to be one of the weirdest I have ever seen

Agreed!

His timeline goes something like this:

  • Commit to Arkansas
  • Decommit from Arkansas
  • Commit to ND sight unseen
  • Waiver on ND commitment
  • Official visit to ND and reconfirms commitment
  • Disgruntled the coaches won't let him look around
  • Rumored for months he's decommitted
  • Widely known he's decommitted (grades, wants to look around, etc.)
  • FINALLY officially decommits

lol new to the game?

Yeah, if there isn't a three AM alarm clock, extra facial hair, a pair of geese, four members of an outlaw motorcycle gang and a blender on frappé, it is just the same old, same-old.

Edit: I forgot the four nearly naked women, one of which may or may not be Kate Upton.

After DGB, Tee, Lynch, Tuitt (24hr flip), Ishaq (4am house call), and Gunner, JJ's recruitment seems pretty tame.

Definitely. Sure doesn't hold a candle to some of the ones of previous years... nor from this year:

-Matt Rolin being committed to South Carolina, tearing ligaments in his knee, getting the South Carolina team doctor to do his surgery, and then a couple days after the surgery dropping South Carolina and immediately committing to Florida.

-Reuben Foster... enough said. Huge *** Auburn tat, decommits from Auburn. Nice.

-Demarcus Robinson commit to Clemson, flip to Florida, flip back to Clemson... and in the middle of it all, a super shady coach. Where have we seen this one before?

The only thing weird about Jamel James' recruitment is that our staff even took his commitment in the first place... although I guess it was a pretty no lose situation for them.

His timeline goes something like this:

  • Commit to Arkansas
  • Decommit from Arkansas
  • Tries to commit to ND sight unseen
  • Academic questions and concerns delay acceptance of commitment by ND
  • Staff lays out an acamdeic "roadmap" for him to be admitted
  • He's not following the roadmap
  • Staff visits him and tells him he won't be admitted with his current academic standing and he needs signifcant improvement, but if he wants to visit other places they won't consider him part of the class, and they also tell him they won't visit him again... basically breaking off contact
  • Widely known that there is a zero percent chance he ends up at ND and it's only a matter of time
  • FINALLY officially decommits weeks after the fact

Fixed.

One other to add is DE Christian Lacouture. He committed to A&M and his family moved to College Station for his HS junior year. Then he decommitted and picked Nebraska and his family moved to Lincoln for his HS senior year. He then decommitted from Nebraska and is now committed to LSU. No word on if his family has already packed the moving truck or not.

Also, how about Floyd Raven from the 2011 class whose mom forged his signature and faxed his LOI to Ole Miss when he wanted to go to A&M. He said his mom was "just trying to help out" and that he never told her that he had changed his mind. Ha, yea right.

I know we all saw this coming due to his grades but this is the most relaxed i have ever seen a thread about a kid de-commiting. Bryant and Folston certainly help.

If this happened 2 years ago this board would have been losing its mind. As the great Bob Dylan said " the times they are a changin"

Oh so true.

I also forgot about Jordan Payton. USC decommit that initially set an announcement date to pick either ND or Michigan, then committed to Cal, then Washington, then UCLA. 4 committments and 6 different leaders at one time or another.

Michael Langston told me when he committed that it was the strangest commitments of the year, as he tried to verbal to FSU and got the cold shoulder. He guaranteed me that JJ would decommitt, and like always he was right.

Who was that guy that crossed the ND recruiting radar, that ended up at Rutgers to win a NC, that sat at the table, picked the wrong hat for a second, and then threw on the hat he wanted. Though that my not have gone down as the strangest recruitment, it certainly should top everyone's list of class acts.

My recruitment out of high school was very bizzarre. Not one school wanted me. Could it be because I had no athletic talent? Nah no way, could that really be why?

Aaron Lynch continues to be a strange commitment story......

What is the latest? Did I hear he had a kid, or was having one?

What about Jordan Presswood? Did he ever show up somewhere?

How about that kid ND recruited for db in Nix's class that was upset that he didn't get to play quarterback and he went to a MAC school, OU or KSU, is he playing? Inquiring minds want to know!

Maybe Derek Roback? He plays for Ohio and was moved to TE. He had 6 Rec's in 2011 and 7 in 2012.
