Okay I need help.

I am an awful gifter and last minute shopper. For Valentines I did the flowers and all the typical Valentines stuff. She cried because all she really wanted was just a hand written something that makes her cry.

For her birthday I always just ask "what do you want" and then say "okay you have my permission to buy it" or I just buy it... but where is the fun in that?

She will be turning 31 and we have been married 12 years. Not a special birthday or anniversary year or anything but her birthday is next week and I have not given it one seconds thought. We just opened a Play It Again Sports store a year ago so all these holidays and birthdays sneak up on us.

I need ideas. Not gift ideas but clever surprise ideas. For example one year we did a scavenger hunt for my parents that lead them to the place they got married and we all surprised them just by being there because we all live out of state.

Clever means there was though involved... but like I said I am awful at this stuff so I need to steal ideas or get ideas.

Thanks in advance. I am sure I am not the only married guy on this page that could use the ideas.

Couple ideas:
1.hand made coupon book for massages, around the house chores and such. My daughter did this for my wife and she loved it
2.the hot springs place between Taos and Santa Fe. Wife and I went there a few years back. Get a private hot spring. Bring wine.
3.if she has a good friend she hasn't seen in a bit (or sibling). Pay for them to come visit for a weekend.
Good luck

My wife is not a fan of flowers, so one year I got real creative which is rare for me.

I got in touch with one of her co-workers and asked if she'd help. I bought four cards and put a note in each one with each being a little different. I also had a little gift like a little box of chocolates, gift card, etc. to go along with the card. The first three cards were not signed to build a little mystery. The fourth was signed. I met with her co-worker and gave her everything ahead of time. Her co-worker would put a card and little surprise on her desk before she got into work or while she was away from her desk. The fourth day she got the signed card and I had flowers delivered to her office.

Since the cards and gifts didn't come in the mail, she wasn't sure where they came from. Her co-worker played clueless and I denied any knowledge. I had her convinced she had a secret admirer until the fourth day when she got the signed card. I've never been able to top that one.

I’ll double down on dinner theater,... so long as it’s not something like Seven Brides or something very chickish along those lines you’ll prob enjoy it well enough too,... and she should love it.

Does she work with you at the store?

If so, give her a day of "play it again" where you remember significant events of her life with mementos in store. Example, get an old picture from a B-day when she was a kid. Hide it in the office/store with a few lines of why it was selected and she finds them throughout the day.

Make sure to put one of the pics in a jock strap.
