I know this is about U$C, scUM, and O$U, but I hate Penn St. because they're the worst. Their fans are the absolute worst. Their schedule is terrible. JoePa. There is nothing likable about them.

I also hate those other teams. Just not as much as I hate PSU.

There should be a word gentler than hate, but just as effective. Maybe disdain is it?

The only reason anyone needs to hate Ohio State:
sagyhu4y.jpg

This douchebag is John Chubb, aka "Buck I Guy." He is the most self-important parasite in all college football. He seat crashes every game, mugs for camera attention the whole time, and literally charges people to have their picture taken with him. The only silver lining is most Buckeye fans see him for what he is, an obnoxious jerkoff.

*The fat loser who wears a kilt and goes shirtless to Bama games has absolutely nothing on Chubb in terms of being a total assclown.

I hate ohio state more than michigan, or usc.

Living in Columbus, its just absolutely brutal to try to deal with it lol. (Koon you will experience this in 5 weeks from today)

But, I dont hate the school persay- I just hate the fanbase. Getting into the different layers of fanbases with The Turning Point, I have realized every fanbase has complete jackasses and idiots. Then every fanbase has fans with open minds, and then the casual fan who knows the QB but couldnt tell you the starting WRs. There are a couple different levels sprinkled in there.

But ohio st fans take the jackass/idiot to an entirely new level. I can appreciate the loyalty and great gameday experience in Columbus, but if you listen to SportsRadio in Columbus for more than 15mins as a fan of someone other than ohio st...its a miracle. They fired a popular and extremely biased towards osu radio host a few years ago...bc he ripped Jim Tressel on the tattoo/car fiasco and called for a harsher punishment.

All the fans that hated Urban for years, now are in love with him and he runs a tight/clean program and magically all the "bad" in the past were just rumors, or "he'd never do that at ohio st, we dont need cheap tricks"

I can understand the excitement of having Urban as a coach. I mean lets face it. Hes one hell of a coach and manipulator of young men. I dont say manipulator in an completely bad way either. The fact that he had back to back undefeated regular seasons in this day of college football is remarkable. If he was ever the Notre Dame coach, I wont lie and say I wouldnt be excited to have him, but I would feel a sense of disappointment in the University in that they are ok with compromising some core "beliefs" that Notre Dame is known for.

But, it is just hilarious to see the fans, and radio hosts talk Urban up the last 2 years after bashing and ripping him apart for the previous 6 years.

Some know their football, while 90% dont know a lick of it, other than osu is a great program. They dont see Braxton Miller not throwing a football since January bc of surgery as a potential question mark.

"All Miller needs to do is run, and he will take us to another 12-0 mark, and probably win the Heisman".

I talked to a good friend at work, and he was trying to sell me that Buffalo was a great win for them last year bc Mack went in the first round. What?

I actually enjoyed watching Thad Matta coach the Buckeyes in bball, and enjoyed watching Buckeye basketball prior to them becoming a good program again. Now, I cant stand it, and its solely bc of the idiotic fanbase. I mean there were people, and still are people, saying that Aaron Craft will be an NBA All Star and that him not getting drafted will only make him work that much harder.

I dont like usc or mich bc they are ND rivals. I have been to Ann Arbor many times to chill with friends, and that atmosphere is no where close to Osu.

I hate scUM because I lived in Michigan.

Actually lived closer to MSU, but since we beat them consistently, their fans were MUCH more tolerable.

Ohio State fans are the most uninformed delusional dickheads in all of college football. I cant tell you the number of times they will gloat about Ohio States success and then try and make fun of ND for playing a weak schedule. They are the only program i hope burns to the ground.

USC and Michigan are like characters in a story you love to hate. They are the Ying to ND's Yang. Ohio State is just the worst, i don't know how else to describe my hatred towards them.

1. USC is our main rival, but I don't hate them. To keep it short, since hiring Haden and no more Carroll/Kiffin don't think there is all that much to "hate."

2. Michigan is the scum of the earth. Historically, see above. They're a school that reveres bigots and KKK sympathizers. In the present, they're a truly unique blend of all the worst characteristics of a school. Delusional self-importance despite not winning an outright title in over 50 years and failing to regularly compete in arguably the easiest major conference in football, arrogant alums who think Michigan > Harvard and that they're God's gift to society coupled with an absurdly disgusting and stupid general fan base of Walmart Wolverines who spend their welfare checks on tacky Michigan apparel, and the fact that despite being a good academic institution they funnel all of their football players into a fraudulent and worthless general studies major and even with that still don't graduate players well. Literally take the worst aspects of UNC, University of Chicago, white trash, Penn State, and the Klan... that's Michigan.

3. Everyone has a different reason for disliking Ohio State. Mine is because they're our "rival" for lacrosse dating back to the days of the GWLL. We whip their ass every year but the games are always super chippy and contentious. Most dislike them because their fans are incredibly obnoxious and they have to deal with them on a daily basis.
That Michigan reasoning is absolutely perfect. Beautiful!

I concur. Disdain is a good choice. It's an apropos and accurate assessment.

Hate is harsh, but a little hyperbole can be refreshing and amusing.

I'll spare you all a Roget's Thesaurus ramble.

I was in the Coliseum when ND beat USC 20-13 in '58. Have thought it the absolute best college football rivalry ever since.
I don't hate USC, I respect them as our foremost rival and hope the series continues forever.
I do hate the substandard officiating that has cost ND a few wins in the series. '64 phantom holding call; or the time the USC running back fumbled at the two, but refs called it a TD; or the Bush push; etc.

Many national title hopes have hung on the annual outcome of this game.

Michigan is easy to dislike for all of those reasons presented by Rack Em.

I feel no separation anxiety over the end of this series.

OhioSt takes the low road (character issues, grad rate, Urbie) and crows.

ND takes the high road, doesn't whine when dealt an injustice, graduates her athletes, and still exceeds.

The word hate isn't strong enough for how I feel about PSU.

Well, you are the Ultimate Penn St. Hater...

Personally, I've always liked Penn State. Maybe it's because my teacher in sixth grade - when I was really getting into college football - was a Penn State man. Maybe it's because my high school football uniform was basically their uniform. Maybe it's because growing up in New England they were the closest major program, and so much cooler than those pathetic wannabes from BC. Maybe I bought the whole JoePa shtick. But they were always my #2, after Notre Dame.
Bloom's off the rose after the Sandusky thing, obviously, but i still respect that program, and know a lot of good Penn State fans. They remind me a lot of Notre Dame fans.

As for the others:

I think Michigan's kind of silly, with their Big House blather (who cares about the size of your stadium?) their over-the-top pomp and their annual disappointments in conference play. But they are Big Time College Football, and if you've ever been to that stadium it's hard not to get a chill down your spine. Their fans, in my experience, are generally cool and the game with them has always been a major event. I'll miss it.

Ohio State? Whatever. They're the closest thing the Midwest has to an SEC program. And, while I mean no disrespect to our Alabaman friends, they are playing by a different set of rules over there. This was true long before Urban Meyer. So I tend to root against them. But it's been almost 20 years since Ohio State and ND have played (aside from that one unfortunate bowl game). So it's hard to get too worked up about them.

USC. Man what a bunch of arrogant pricks their fans are. With their Song Girls and their Vs and the dumb scarves and hats they wear to the game even out there (it's still 70 degrees in LA on Thanksgiving weekend you pansies). And Will Farrell and Snoop Dog and whoever. I actually like Pete Carroll (heresy, I know), and Haden seems to be trying to do the right thing. Got no problem with the players. But those people who root for that program - alum or no - are a bunch of dicks. So fuck them.

I'm curious about why ND fans have a particular hatred for USC, Michigan and Ohio State. As a Bama fan, we probably hate Auburn because they're our cross-state rival, but even more so because of how whiny their fans are. Not knowing all that much about ND history, I'd like to hear where the hatred (or extreme dislike) for those 3 programs comes from.

I think the osu hate is cyclical right now more than anything else, as an ND fan. I dislike them right now. Period. As a college football fan.

As an ND fan, the general rule of thumb is that sc is our biggest rival, but michigan is the most disliked and hated rival.

The reasoning for the hatred of michigan was covered well by Rack Em and Lax.

With sc, I think ND fans (and sc fans too) respect the rivalry and the importance of it's place in the history of college football and college athletics-- the first trans-continental rivalry. Unlike geographic rivals, each school and team decided to start playing each other every year for the betterment of their programs, and the betterment of football (they decided to begin this rivalry, essentially, before pro football even existed or had a following-- college football was king). And then throw in that each team has had a shitload of Natty's, All-Americans, Heisman winners, NFL draft picks, etc. And each team, for the most part, has been consistent in that regard going back to the 1920's. While other annual rivalries may be older or represent 2 similarly historic teams (although, truthfully, there are only MAYBE a couple rivalries pitting historic blue bloods against one another like ND-sc), finding the consistent, year-after-year, decade-after-decade successful teams like ND-sc is pretty difficult to do.

I still sometimes use the word but I don't truly hate anyone over sports. I've forced myself to adopt this attitude because in the past I was probably a little too passionate and competitive over games, especially back when I played football in high school. We actually got into an all out gang fight with a rival team once when they came looking for revenge after we ran up the score on them. During that fight I was hit in the face with a 2x4 . I wore the nose brace from the broken nose like a badge of honor back then. Nowadays I realize how lucky I was that it was just a broken nose and not permanent brain damage or something else.

Here in California we have people getting killed and beaten at games, parents fighting, refs being threatened etc. So I've tried hard to adopt a new attitude and not hate.I try to keep everything friendly and sportsman like. Over the last few years I've even become friends with my neighbor who's a Dodger, USC and Raider fan. I figure it's not his fault that he was either born a crack baby or his doctor dropped him on his head. Whatever affliction caused his brain damage, it doesn't mean he's not a nice guy.

I try to keep reminding myself it's just a game.

Disclaimer: Richard Sherman is exempted from the above statement. (j/k) :)

I actually don't hate Michigan. Matter of fact, they used to be my #2 behind ND. I was/am a huge Charles Woodson fan for reasons that I don't even know. I enjoyed their domination of OSU in the '90s. I started hating them after Lloyd Carr was fired.

Random: My family almost moved to Kalamazoo in the mid-90s. Not sure if I dodged a bullet on that one or not.

As for USC, we had them 4th and long. If only Ambrose Wooden was like an inch or two taller.

I don't really hate OSU that much, they are most irrelevant to me. I respect USC and enjoy that rivalry.

I really hate Michigan. I really can't stand that school. I hate them for their history, I hate them for their obnoxious/ignorant fanbase, and I hate them because every year I'm like "yeah we're a better team than them" and we somehow lose to them. Fuck Michigan. Can't stand that program.

Another team I hate, and this has nothing to do with ND, is Georgia. Having just lived for 7 years in Georgia I really grew to loathe that school. The driving force behind my hate there is the fanbase. I mean that might be the most cocky and arrogant fanbase in the country and they have zero reason for their arrogance. You know you 'Bama fans, you can get a bit arrogant but you have a strong history and great present day reality to back that up. I'm just lost as to where UGA fans find this wellspring of over confidence when the annual tradition in UGA is too be hyped beyond the moon coming into the season and then under-performing all season/choking in the SECCG.

Miami is the team that makes my blood run hot, still more than anything. The "Catholics vs Convicts" stretch was right when I really started getting into ND football as more than just a "root for the good guys on Saturday." I just hated those dirty, cheap shot bastards from Miami and their slimy coach, JJ Hair. I still snarl at the sight of the 'Canes, even though the rivalry is 20 some years dormant (back every 3 years with ACC play, though).

An illustrative story. My wife was unpacking some of her old clothes a few years back. She pulled out a Hurricanes sweatshirt she had gotten back when. I asked her politely but firmly if she would please refrain from ever wearing it in my presence. I explained the whole "Catholics vs Convicts" history. She's a good Catholic girl and an wonderful wife so she gladly indulged her crazy Fighting Irish husband in this request and the offending sweatshirt is gone.
