Not worried about OL. Mustipher will be back. Liam and Kraemer take over left side of OL. Banks and Lugg are top backups to starting OL next year. Let's see how this year OL recruitng finishes up. Probably already lead for two of nations best tackles in 2019 class. This is a position I never worry about. BTW I agree with your assessment of the CB position.

Mustipher goes, Kraemer gets hurt....show me your 2018 two deep?

Now you're playing around with hypotheticals which is a waste of time. Mustipher is coming back. So I'm not going to comment on that. Banks would backup up at guard position. Rarely do you need more than 7 OL in a year. We've only used seven this year except in blowouts. McGlinchey, Nelson, Mustipher, Bars, Hainsey/Kraemer and Bivin.

Is it possible we could end up with Irvin, Gordon, Taylor and Boykin? It would not be surprising.

Now that Porter is done.

Will Bracy or Crim get their boxes checked enough to commit or do we have to wait until the end of the semester? Does Taylor really take all of those OV's? Does Boykin beat the rush and flip?

I sure would like Julius Irvin to jump on. He and ASB would be one hell of a package deal.

...or will HH get a quick flip/commitment from one of the guys he's creepin' on?

Or does NPF just commit on a random Tuesday?

Who's Next?

It sounds like a majority of players left on the board are either announcing at an AA game, or taking other visits. The only one that really isn't would be Crim, unless I'm forgetting someone.

So I'll roll with Crim. He takes his test, gets the necessary score, and commits. Let's say by the end of November.

Ugh, it's already November. I didn't need to be reminded of that

Per Sinclair on the newest podcast, expect Notre Dame to land Lawrence Keys if everything lines up academically.

Joe Wilkins visits this weekend, right? I could see him committing if everything goes right this weekend.

Oddly enough, Loy doesn't think he'd be able to commit on the spot should he want to. This was said a week or two ago. Staff is quite confident in their CB board and, at that time, didn't think they'd take Wilkins. If that is bad info, then Wilkins could very well be it. Though ,he too, has stated he would like other visits. He's also publicly disappointed he hasn't received more offers. Not sure that is the sign of a guy you want to commit or is ready to commit. Though that is JMO.

I'm feeling less confident with Irvin so I'll take Taylor, Gordon and Bracy at CB.

So with our current offers out and up to date info, do we have any idea who we'll get for this secondary?

Or a best guess?

We have 18 commits so far. How many spaces do we have for ‘18 scholarships. There seems to be lots of good chances out there but only 4-6 spaces.

And if we get three five stars, two wash out of the program by spring ball of their sophomore year.

Don't know the full list off the top of my head, but yesterday Sam announced he's coming back. (not that this was unexpected, but that spot has been secured)

Right, this discussion and that kind of triggered my question. And you are correct that he is DEFINITELY a keeper. Probably less said of him than anyone else on the OL this year, but a lot of times that means you are doing your job well. Kid has really nailed down his duties this year and probably has a good shot of a C on his jersey next year.

Offense: His classmates Bars and Byrne are eligible too. So far I think Bars returns, but it doesn't sound like it's a done deal due to ISD listing him as a guy that could go.

We also have Monty, but I'd guess he's gone. Canteen and Weishar. Nick is asked back, Canteen? Who knows.

Defense: Tranquil has eligibility, but my guess is he's also probably gone. Cage has a year, but I'd be very surprised if he plays. Watkins will be asked back, but who knows if he'd rather declare. Hayes and Bonner will be asked back too.

ST: I think Newsome is eligible too?

He's playing really well in college, but I don't see the NFL being too crazy about him. He's also getting a powerful degree, so I wonder if he won't parlay his undergrad into a quick graduate degree next year and play for ND again.

https://www.onefootdown.com/2017/6/...hip-chart-fighting-irish-85-scholarship-limit

With all current commits and potential fifth years, we already have 92 scholarships for next year. Potential fifth years are:

Freddy Canteen
Nic Weishar
Quenton Nelson
Alex Bars
Jimmy Byrne
Sam Mustipher
Jonathan Bonner
Pete Mokwah
Jay Hayes
Drue Tranquil
Nick Watkins
Tyler Newsome

So we're going to have to have a ton of roster attrition if we want to take 25 this year.

I don't see this happening. This kid is super bought into ND. He'd be able to get a graduate degree on top of his engineering undergrad. Plus, he, of all people, knows how quickly an injury can derail a sports career.

Not to mention, I don't believe his measurables would be highly favored by scouts. No idea where his ranking would be, but not that top dollar money for sure.

He's already had 2 major knee injuries, and will have an engineering degree to fall back on. Declaring this year should maximize his value.

Guys who won't be back if I had to guess. Canteen, Byrne, Mokwah, Nelson to the NFL, everyone else I would bring back
