Looking to join the Weber Club soon. But one big decision needs to be made: Stick with propane tanks or add a new line for natural gas? I can't totally get rid of the tanks because I use them for my pot fryer. But instant gas for grilling is just so damn nice. I have a steel pipe main line that goes into a manifold and from there, various CSST flex lines go to other appliances. I'm hoping to just add one more flex line for the grill. I'll know more later tonight when I investigate.

So if I go that route, I'm looking at the Genesis 310.

With that said, does anyone know why they redesigned the Genesis II and removed the doors? I liked that closed storage on the first gen.

I had a natural gas grill in Orlando and I ended up kind of hating it. I didn't like being pinned to one spot for grilling. It's not that I move the grill frequently, but it's nice to be able to. It also rendered my $600 grill completely useless when I moved somewhere without NG lines.

You can still find the old style Genesis 310, you just have to know where to look. The E-310 (cast iron grates, no side burner) is available in Lowe's-exclusive espresso. The E-330 (cast iron grates with side burner) is available in black from The Home Depot. My EP-330 (stainless grates with side burner) Special Edition in TrueValue-exclusive Crimson is sold out.

I tend to keep my grill in the same spot. Even if I eventually built an outdoor kitchen, it'd be in that spot. So moving it isn't a big deal. I hear ya about moving to a new house though. Hopefully that wouldn't be the case as we literally just moved into this one.

Speaking of old timers: Men are outside grilling meat, women are inside doing the beans and other rabbit foods on the stove. No side burner needed.

Funny you should mention Orlando and a gas grill. I grew up there (1963 to whenever the hell it was that I finally moved to Miami – to Miami for one year and then thirty-six in Minneapolis.

My father, a born and raised product of Manhattan, loved to grill one outside the confines of "The" City. It was fascinating to observe his progression through grilling equipment.

Charcoal (with an electric starter thingy – used as early as my youngest days on Long Island) to a grill/smoker fabricated from a three foot length of gas transmission pipe by people he worked with.

[He was employee #4 at Florida Gas Company, which was a nice, well and ethically run outfit until Ken Lay and his gang of thieves at Enron bought it.]

The pipe grill was scary as shit. We never trusted the counter-weight set up to guard against severed body parts should it fail. It also weighed a fucking ton.

He pulled his weight and had gas run to our house to run the water heater, A/C and a grill rigged for NG. He had a long, quick connect hose that allowed him to spend Sundays leisurely grilling (Scotch in Hand) in the open air or in the shelter of the carport on rainy days.

When he sold the house to move to a reasonably sized bungalow, a brother-in-law hauled it to Jacksonville, converted it with propane burners and used it for five years. I then took it Minnesota and used it another five years. It was sturdy, heavy duty cast aluminum, but when the burners gave out I couldn't find compatible replacement parts. It's a good thing that I never got around to re-refitting it for NG.

London Broil was his favorite Sunday meal to grill.

So there are in fact people who really do enjoy green beans, interesting. I always assumed that was a myth from the great bards of yore.

I've never understood the aversions to green beans or peas.

Two of my favorites.

Lima beans are a completely different story.

I don't dislike green beans, I've just never once thought, 'you know what I'm craving right now' or 'what this needs is' about them... if they are there, I'll eat them... peas can straight up hazmat a dish tho...

I didn't think that I knew anyone that didn't like them.

Love fresh green beans. Tossed in a bit of EVOO with a little salt and pepper.

I did make that chicken recipe you posted the other day. One of the better chicken dishes I've made. We definitely will have it again.

But anyway sillyness aside I have that grate wooly mentioned and it works great, we do mixed veggies (the good ones), or asparagus on it often,... I'd recommend.

Honestly you touched on it, it's a 'Thanksgiving food'... we've had this discusssion before tho idk if you were in on it... I love the Holiday, generally dislike the food. I love my Gradma but she killed it for me, the typical Thanksgiving dishes were almost all she ever made and she made it old world as hell... want some flavor? Add some salt... need more? Little butter, you want garlic or sauce? Son we aren't millionaires, do without it... and my father LOVED it so even after she passed he had my mom carry on w that style... unflavored potatoes, corn, dry turkey, basic rolls...

Even as an adult when I've had all of the legit Americanized versions of these things,... it was... too late for me.... tho I obviously recognized the huge difference.

To green beans I say:

Now as the head of the house, and cook, we make a bunch of other stuff for Thanksgiving ( not that we don't do some of the traditional stuff, we do), usually what you'd envision a Creole Thanksgiving table to look like I suppose? Mustard Greens, smoked meats, Cajun veggies, seafood boils, garlic potatoes, cornbread... Hell we even just did a bunch of high end Mexican and Filipino dishes one year.

I do really enjoy an assortment of roasted, smoked and grilled veggies, squash, fruits and such... just not many of the ones generally associated w Thanksgiving.

I've had all those as an adult as I stated tho...

I've made mac for Thanksgiving tho... good stuff. For the record my mom these days does still do GB cass and brings it to dinner,... I just never eat it.

So I've checked my gas line situation and it seems easy enough. But having never done it, I'm nervous to DIY it. Anyone have a ballpark estimate on what I should expect to pay a professional? That may sway me one direction or the other. What better way to spend my weekend that grilling on a new Weber?! 75 and sunny in Indy Saturday from what I hear.
