I thought the SEC had rules denying graduate transfers in?

Indeed they do. It's unclear whether Auburn can count Armond as a "regular" transfer (therefor not invoking the graduate transfer rule) since he already sat out a year. The fact that he is visiting seems to imply that he has a loophole around the rule.

My limited research indicates the "Masoli" rule should prevent his transfer either way.

Among their actions on the final day of the league's business meetings, presidents voted to eliminate the exception for graduate students to an existing rule that requires student-athletes transferring to an SEC school to have at least two years of eligibility remaining in their sport.

Unless Auburn is somehow allowed to preemptively count on Armond getting a medical waiver, he simply doesn't have two years of eligibility remaining. Of greater concern is the fact that "the new rule goes into affect Oct. 1, 2012."

Worst news I've heard yet on the matter.

My guess: Armond to Aurburn and Arik to Cal.

However, maybe we're giving SEC schools too much credit. Maybe they're not smart enough to realize this potential loophole. lol. If Armond can't transfer to Auburn, then I look for both to be Irish.

My guess: Koyack to ND. He has real potential and should be at the top of our list.

No information.

I know things could change in an instant, but this seems like a big step backwards from last year if we don't land a few of the following:

Darby
Wright
Neal
Fuller

We need play makers! I rather save spots than offer more project players. Hopefully we can win more games with a tougher schedule next year and have a top class next year.

Respectfully disagree because if BK see's something he can work with and turn into a solid starter, then I trust him. Just because you aren't a 4-5* doesn't mean you are terrible or not worth it. I still will hang my hat on Tyrann Mathieu. There are more but he is the most notable.

i don't look into stars bud personally, i look at the offer list. there's a difference b/t 3* justin ferguson and 3* standifer. look at the offers and they'll show you that imo.

I believe Mathieu's best offer was from LSU, then it considerably dropped to UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe...

Something along those lines.

Therein lies my point.

No one else did.

Louisiana kid recruited solely by Louisiana schools...

His offer list was poo (save LSU)

Edit: And then you compare a highly productive, mediocre rated player (Mathieu)
To a highly rated, nearly non productive college player (Will Hill)

maybe he wasn't helped by film evaluation too much, meaning he didn't get his name out there enough to be recruited nationally perhaps. plus it's expensive to travel the camp circuit...just some possibilities.

Very true.

That, and the fact that he's at or under 5'10 and ran a 4.6ish forty

but he's also proof that you can look sexy as hell on paper (Will Hill) and not amount to squat.

The opposite being Mathieu, and another example, Golden Tate.... Lowly rated, wildly productive

Golden Tate was not a lowly rated, diamond-in-the-rough recruit.

Can anyone explain why the SEC blocks graduate transfers? They'll take questionable JUCO transfers all day, but not a graduate?

Players are required to have two or more years of eligibility remaing to transfer into the SEC. The graduate rule was an exception to this SEC rule. As to their rationale, I don't think a straight answer to that question exists.

Also, if you're looking for low rated recruits who became stars, look no further than Eifert.

I called my coaching buddy as MS State and asked him about the Masoli rule and when it takes effect. According to him, this season was the last that a player could transfer in with only one year remaining. He referenced their linebacker that came this year as the last official player that got in before the rule took effect. I asked him if Auburn could get the Armstead guy from usc and his response was, no. According to him, sec commish sent a reminder e-mail last week that no players could enroll unless they had two or more seasons of eligibility remaining. Now, we all know that the sec changes rules as they see fit, but hopefully this rule will help steer the Armsteads away from that school. Even if they do not come to ND, I hope that they will go to a school that values and education and isn't just a football factory. Outside of Vandy, none of the sec schools put much stock in an education. However, if you want to pursue a degree in Poultry Engineering, MS State is the leader in that. HAHA! No kidding, that is a major at MS State.

Rebuilding chickens.... Faster.... Stronger.... Better than before

Going to use your quote this aftenoon when I head to the field house. All of the other coaches are MSU grads and I give them hell about the Poultry Engineering program anyways. This will give me added ammo. LMAO
