Per poster on II:

Matt Hegarty has played a lot of Show Team C, and done very well. Lots of potential and they're very excited about him.

Martin also is capable of playing C (and every OL position actually), and well. But with Hegarty there, Nick Martin can swing between OT (where he's had more reps thus far) and OG as necessary.

Still early and without the full benefits of bowl practice time and especially spring practice to experiment and develop more thoroughly, but the frosh OL potentially could break down with Prestwood and N Martin at OT, Hanratty and Carrico at OG, and Hegarty at C. And again, there's some positional versatility there. Good group.

Wayne Lyons, Noor Davis and Alex Carter... smh... love all those kids and they're all going to be trees!!

I don't see any commits before the Stanford game. I think if we win that we get a couple guys to pop.

I know it's cliche to say that "this will be the game that starts the revival!" and people incorrectly said it before the South Florida game, and Michigan game, and the Southern Cal game...however, I really think a victory over Stanford could do the trick. I hope that's not the kiss of death, but this is such a grand opportunity for the Irish to really finish off the regular season in a way that would shut a lot of the doubters up.

Go trees! Beat Oregon!

Yes. I approve of the young O-Line practice report, indeed. Hegarty-of-the-great-feet to be Braxton's heir apparent --- GOOD! If the listed designators stay as posted, then there is even more reason to see Lombard at guard and one of the Prestwood/NMartin duo at Right Tackle.

Relative to this recruiting cycle: the advisability of getting only three O-Line [as a direct number replacement for ZMartin, Watt, and Golic if he stays one more year] [remember: staff's see this year's recruits as replacing veterans with still one year of eligibility left, due to the desire for 100% red-shirting] would be tied to how high they are on almost the whole set of rookies already here. If they are really high on NMartin, Prestwood, Hegarty, AND Hanratty or Carrico [i.e., they see at least four really good ones], then signing only three this cycle seems low risk. So, hang with us Decker and Harrell, and Stanley, or Banner, or whomever, "Come on Down!!"

I'll take a win over Stanford every day of the week and twice on Sunday, BUT if Stanford losing puts Bama in the NCG (Stanford should jump Bama if they beat Oregon), I'll feel dirty.

I can't see us winning. The thought of our terrible coverage linebackers trying to defend their corps of tight ends is terrifying.

I would be very surprised if Stanford beats Oregon.

As far as our O-Line goes, I think, one way or another, we are in far, far better shape than we have been in a long time.

I think the most important components of a good o-line are consistency in a good system and day-in-day-out competition. Talent comes after those (see Wisconsin, Iowa, etc.). We have talent and a good system, and I think we have finally restored a little of the competition that makes for greatness.

In my opinion, the biggest obstacle that Weis had to deal with, on both sides of the line, was that the "chain" of roughneck linemen who could pass on the right work ethic, fierceness, and tenacity was broken. There was a literal gap between the Davie kids and the Weis kids and the institutional knowledge that comes from four or five years of blood , sweat, and... well blood and sweat was simply gone. Talented guys like Sam Young were really stunted, and the team suffered for it, in some sense permanently.

Its my belief that we are re-kindling that fire, though we have a long, long way to go.

How's this: I would very surprised if Stanford beat Oregon, thus undermining a key component of those theories that see us landing our next recruit based on beating an undefeated Stanford team.

Both Zmartin and Watt are eligible for a fifth year if we want them back and they want to come back (well and they get into a graduate program).

I would love to land Stanley or Banner this year. That would make things more comfortable as far as depth is concerned on our OL. As far as who is next.., I really hope we can get Kiel on board. I think that other recruits will take notice and possibly jump on board as well. Primarily at the WR position where guys like Agholor, Payton, Thomas might get swayed by signing a big name quarterback to our roster. I am happy with the class we have right now, but a commitment from Kiel might boost our class a bit IMO.

Honestly if I was part of the staff I would take McNamara this year and Breannman next year. After the 2012 season our only TE's are Welch and Koyak who will both be juniors.

I think the staff told Breannman he would be the only TE they went after. We dont need a TE this year but i would take McNamara just in case we didnt get Adam next year.

It seems like Notre Dame is still in the pond with a lot of these big fish and it's going to be really interesting to see what Kelly and the coaching staff can reel in when the season ends and they have more time to focus on recruiting. I think back to last season and what they were able to do in securing Lynch, Tuitt, and Ishaq. It seems like when they put the full court press on specific targets they seem to do well.

As always, the most improtant thing is finishing up the season strong.

If push came to shove because of a scholarship crunch then I agree but otherwise I disagree that a top TE is a need in this class.

The TE depth is deceiving as Eifert is proving to be one of the best TE in the country and if he stay healthy and puts up another great season he's not coming back and will be off to the NFL as he could very well could be the #1 TE in the draft and have a ND degree in hand.

So that would leave only Koyak, who IMO is going to be stud and Welch who not the typical modern ND TE but more of a true power TE that will block and get his fair share of catches but more so in a traditional sense when they go 2 TE sets.

Getting dynamic TE when you can you do so.

If there is open scholarship for McNamara then by all mean take his commitment as he's one the best sit him for a year to keep up quality depth at the position.

What's forgotten is that when you get players that are some of the best at there position they are going to leave early or leave a year left available if they RS so that has to be remembered when talking about depth because all some fans see is that he's got 2 years of eligibility left but not the likelihood that if they are that good they aren't go to use it if there the best and even more so if they already got there degree.
