There's a guy on the Rivals board who's always dead on with his info, and he thinks we should have another one shortly.

It will be interesting to see how this class starts to form. Like Terry said, we had a couple big pick ups during the following week of the BG game to put us at 9. #10 did not come until over 2 months later when we picked up Hardy.

I would love for us to figure out this QB business and grab another O Lineman....but I will go with one of the skill players to pop first (maybe two): Ferguson, Darboh, or Treggs

ND and Florida are his final two. Amazing to me that both Florida and Florida State offered this guy..... and that's about it until we offered. I expect his stock to take off after the summer evaluation period. That, or three elite schools are way off on their evaluation. I have a feeling Ferguson and Greenberry's stock will continue to rise. The two of them with a mixture of maybe Treggs and DGB would be excellent.

Just give me DGB and all lineman to block for the Qb. That way the QB can just wait till DGB gets open!

Now that we just got a great receiver in Ferguson....who could likely be the next to jump in?? Is it about time we get another lineman???

So many young guys talking a good game about ND. It's hard to tell, but how about Noor Davis? With fingers crossed and everything.

The Noor Davis recruitment will last awhile (IMO). My guess is Mark Harrell towards the middle of summer.

I agree with Harrell. Mauk will make his decision sooner rather than later, probably in the coming weeks. Whether thats for ND or not...

This is marginally related to this thread, but the concept will become more relevant as we get further into the recruiting season and things fill up. It starts with an inquiry: how many likely scholarship slots does Kelly think that he can plan towards, and what sort of player [position-wise] does he want to use those slots on?

Just for a talking point. I'm going to pick "twenty" as a number that he thinks he can squeeze out. If we had that for a target, what does he want? We can, I believe say more than one would think about this.

A).He obviously wants a full defensive backfield, as he has three commits and is still recruiting. Those four scholarships make sense to most of us since we are still thin in our pipeline at the positions;

B).He obviously wants a long-snapper, because he's already got one. He is recruiting the QB, RB, and TE positions, as he has offers out to all these positions. My guess is that he will not take more than one of each due to the premium on numbers, but the fact that RB has the largest number of offers for any single spot makes one wonder if he's not going for two.

But let's say one RB. "A" & "B" above amount to 8 of those "20" scholarships. How's he going to spend the remaining twelve.

C).According to our site's list, he has offers out to 16 WRs despite already having one commit. That's a lot. That sounds like he wants a full set of three this time.If so, we're down to 9 left.

D). Kelly/Diaco have offered twelve D-linemen. That signifies to me that they want a complete set there too. At least one of those should be NT oriented or imaginable fitting there. If so, then we're down to 6 left.

E). The Staff has offered 17 O-linemen beyond the one we've gotten already. Normally I'd say that Kelly wanted a set-of-five here too, but with the Offensive line this is a place where you can ratchet back a little and take four a year. We are still a little shy there, so four could be a good guess.

F).That leaves two for linebacker. That seems light, but as has been mentioned, we have a talent load there which is young and flexible, and maybe that is how Kelly would go. The fact that there are only seven offers out, and that the fellow who just committed to Michigan didn't receive an ND offer, buttresses the idea that we will not take many there.

As I said, this sort of analysis doesn't tell you who's next, but if I were a defensive back, I'd pick up the phone. Same thing if I was a TE or a QB.

Who's next?

Who's next?

OMM - - - as usual, spot on analysis. I agree with everything you say, but think that ND will opt for two RBs this year. Thanks for the post.

Good post, OMM.

Didn't one of our coaches tell Geno Smith that we want to take 5 DBs this year? If that includes Chris Badger, then your prediction of 4 "new" DBs this cycle is probably right; if not, then we're really loading up with 6 in the 2012 class. Either way, Badger counts as a DB scholarship this cycle, so your prediction of 4 here is probably at least one short.

Unless we get completely snubbed by most every RB on our board, I don't see how we take less than 2. Most commentators seem to agree that it's our most pressing area of need.

Where will Kelly make room for the extra RB and DB (or two) in your analysis? I don't think he's determined to take a QB this year; if he gets one of his top guys, then OK, but I doubt he moves far down the QB board if we miss on our top picks given the current state of the depth chart. And we could certainly afford to take 1 less on the D- and O-lines.

Well done OMM. From what I've read and heard from different places, the general consensus is that ND is looking to take 4 O-linemen and 2 RBs. That can change of course, but from a numbers standpoint and a depth standpoint, it seems about right.

My best guess as to where Kelly will get another spot or two is that my guess of twenty is low. We have something like 24 or 25 scholarship players on the roster today listed as grad school or seniors according to their academic standing. Floyd adds one more. I will bet that very few of the few who are eligible for fifth years will be granted if the recruiting success warrants it.

Someone like Cave is a rare guarantee. Crist is too unless the kids pass him up during the season. If KLM is in the eligible category, he'd be a third. Slaughter probably, but how fast do the kids come on?? These matters are debatable of course, especially on this board where different persons have long-established favorites in their minds. Kelly probably does not share those biases.

Badger will not count against the 2012 Class max but will count against the 85 Team max. But he won't be counted until the Fall of 2012 when he returns. That gives Kelly 6 months to "play with" regarding transfers, career injuries, or academic casualties.

I saw that too. Who's on the radar?

Richardson could spurn scUM for ND, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Greenberry is probably a popular pick, but I wouldn't call June 11th soon, and I'd be surprised if he verballed before then.

Harrell or DeStefano maybe? Not sure if those guys even have actionable offers.

Would you call Greenberry commiting June 11 the "near future"

haha I asked if near future meant 11:45 on Thursday and he replied that's not who he was referring to. Said he hadn't heard either way on Richardson either.

Where is this Turning Point statement coming from?

I'm not sure who it is but they seem to be pretty plugged in to ND recruiting. He said Noor Davis would either commit to USC or Stanford the day before the announcement last week.

Just asked him if it was DG (Greenberry) and he replied "si". Take it FWIW.
