Seem to be packing this class with those "diamond in the rough" types...
Kolin Hill and Drue Tranquill turned out pretty solid so far.
This class Kelly is recruiting winners. These kids are from winning programs and understand how to win.
Shaun Crawford, Jalen Guyton, Nicco Fertitta play on the #1,#3,and #4 ranked teams nationally. Crawford plays Tommy Kraemers school this weekend and they are itching to get after each other. Obviously Bishop Gorman plays whoever, wherever, whenever and they have probably the most intriguing game of the season in two weeks when they play St. John Bosco.
I believe only Tiassum, Tillery and McKinney are the only commits on a team with a losing record. I truly think that getting kids that come from winning programs are a huge step in the right direct. ND is getting a kid that understands the importance of teamwork, sacrifice, and being part of a program vs being the program.
Id love to see BK bring in some more Top 25 talent and boost the class rankings, but as we have seen in the past, those kids just arent worth the time. The recruiting offices are doing a great job at finding the kids that fit Notre Dame and going after them. Yes, that list is cut down even more, but I have to say its worth it. No one likes the Lynch, Darby, Vanderdoes, Shepard, Greenberry, etc drama. So the top 25 players in the country, Bama offers all 25, ND can only offer 18 with academic requirements, then after finding out if they can fit at ND, that might go down to 8. Thats a disadvantage, but thats something you will have to live with being a Notre Dame fan.
BK and his staff have shown they can play with just about anyone in the nation and I think player development will take the next step with BVG on campus. I think Diaco was good, but he got a little ahead of himself on certain things. BVG has been at the highest level and the lowest level of the game for many more years. NOT to rip Diaco, but that experience will go further in getting the max potential out of kids. Its the same reason BK stepped in and totally changed the culture in the program in 3 years. Its not easy and its not something that happens overnight, but if you give it time and let them do their jobs, the program will take the next step. I think its clear through 3 games that those results are already paying and the players are playing for BVG. Thats the biggest step.
