Yep. He isn't going to commit to ND hours after he visited Wake.

I think Wiltfong is great, but I don't find his comments about ND not being done adding commitments from Jr. Day terribly enlightening. Even with all the commitments, we still have at least Green, Elliott, Bell, Anzalone, and Mastrogiovanni for whom we think we lead (and that's not counting Drennon and Randolph, with whom we have good shots), so to say we'll probably get more doesn't tell me too much.

After last cycle, I'm choosing to only tip-toe around recruiting, rather than dive all the way in...so please excuse the ignorance in my questions.

1) What's a general total for this class? (I realize 5th years, transfers, etc make this fluid...but what's a broad number)

2) Does anyone have a rough guess as to how many of each position the staff is targeting? For example, I believe I read that they're after one more WR for this class. Possibly one more OL.

3) Besides Jaylon Smith (who's probably the top dog on our board), who else are instant impact type players that this staff is targeting?

Thanks.

don't have the number just yet...im sure there is a breakdown on one of these nd sites, one footdown, here, 24/72) Does anyone have a rough guess as to how many of each position the staff is targeting? 1 elite OL or someone like Munger who can play both DL and OL3) Besides Jaylon Smith (who's probably the top dog on our board), who else are instant impact type players that this staff is targeting?

21 is a safe bet. Might be a couple more.

QB- 1
RB- 1
WR- 3
OL- 4
TE- 1 or 2
CB- 3
S- 1
LB- 3-4
DL- 3
ST/ATH- 1-2

Those numbers above are a combination of my opinion, existing numbers/slots/depth chart, and things the staff has said (like they want 4 OL in this class). Those numbers can change though. For instance, if some absolute stud OL wants to come, would the staff really turn him away?

Yea 21 is a good bet. The base is 18 if everyone except Jake Golic and T Stockton get a fifth year and Eifert goes pro.

Those eligible for fifth years are Carlo, Fox, Martin, Tausch, Watt, Wood.

Obviously not everyone else will get a fifth year and guys like Martin and Wood could also go pro so 21 is a safe bet.

Id say somewhere between 21 and 23 is a good bet. I think we're a lock for at least 1 transfer at QB and probably a couple guys leave early. I think its downright hilarious that alabama takes 25+ every year and we can't even take 25 a year after signing a whopping 16 recruits.

I think Bell and Drennon end up following Kinlaw here.

Drennon and Kinlaw are from South Jersey but are still like 45 min away from each other. St Peter's Prep is up in Jeresy City so I don't thinnk it would have that much affect on him.

Don't try to argue with me boy. I'm right. You're wrong...with your nifty facts and stuff...

I'm gonna say I have no idea who's next and I love these surprises. Who would have guessed Malik Zaire and Rashad Kinlaw would commit? Off to a great start.

Hoping for Bell, but really want a defensive player to be next.

I would love for a big ugly on the defensive side. Correct me but I'm not really noticing a lot of hype/positive news on this section besides Latham being recruited there

Anyone...

I kind of agree with Lax. Eifert's gone after this year. And I don't think it's absurd to say that Wood or Martin will leave. Hell, if louis Nix has a monster year, then I think he will seriously consider it (particularly because of the premium the NFL places on NG's/DT). I'm not sure so sure on the QB transferring part though. In my opinion, Golson would be the only serious threat to transfer after this year...and that's only by assuming he would clearly be on the outside looking in at that juncture of his ND career (and I don't know if that would be the case). Rees would only have 1 year to maybe[B] start/get playing time somewhere else. I think he's smart enough to know any dreams he may have of playing pro are futile. Would he pass up 1 more year at ND and earning that ND degree to be a 1 year starter at Toledo and get a degree from there? Or 2 years as a starter at Valdosta St. and a degree from there? Despite Hendrix having that extra year of eligibility at ND, wouldn't he lose it by transferring (thus, bypassing the 5 years to play 4 seasons rule)? If so, then he'd be in the same book as Rees. I'd put Kiel's chances of transferring around +/- 0%. The kid ain't transferring just because he wasn't named the starter as a true freshman-- he knows it'll take time to earn the spot.

Thanks for the insight fellas.

I just got sucked into it all last year and when Perkins, Decker, Darby, Sheperd, and Greenberry decided not to be at ND, it was like a punch to stomach because I had invested so much time and excitement in their recruitment. My heart can't take it again!

This year, I'll take the wait and see approach. Regardless of who we sign, I'll be happy with them all and spare myself the disappointment in not landing the poor saps who chose otherwise.
