Just to be controversial to the point of buffoonery: watching Bennett Jackson and Keivaree Russell grow as corners [and wondering if Lo Wood comes back strong next year, and Josh Atkinson and Jalen Brown turn out to be at least good back-ups], I have gotten very calm about our CB situation. Here's the extremism by me: I see both Jackson and, especially, Russell, as having the talents to be elite corners before they're through. I suppose I can be convinced that there are guys out there that just make your jaw drop even as high school players, but.... I like what we've got.

Jesus thank you whiskey ... I have been saying this for weeks. We must get at least two true ILBs in this class ... Thick powerful guys with quick feet, as opposed to long, lean, speedy guys like Mattingly and Randolph.

They don't have to be top guys ... We can swing for the fences at ILB in 2014. But we need two for depth.

Absolutely, we need another rip your head off, run thru a wall ILB similar to Deeb kind of guy.

I would put Mattingly in the long and leaner catagory but not Randolph. He seems to have more of a ILB build he's listed at 6'3'' but looks more like 6'2'' which fits our inside linebacker profile. Randolph's weight is at 235 which are Anzalone and Deeb's measurements. It think the staff like's his versatility with the possibility he could be a cat, in the mold of Shembo, an ILB from his body type, or possibly putting his hand down eventually.
I would put Randolph in your latter catagory of thick and powerful.

Could Mattingly really play ILB? I doubt it. Not much overlap in the physical profiles and skill sets. TE and OLB? Yes. But not ILB.

We're dangerously thin inside. Even if we bring back both Calabrese and Fox, we'd only have 6/8 with Anzalone for 2013. Without him, we're at 5/8*. DT and ILB are our only two real positions of need; losing one of our most highly rated prospects at either position stings.

Now, if we back fill with Isaac Savaiinaea, I won't give Anzalone another thought. But there's no way to spin this as anything other than a significant loss.

*At this point, bringing back both Calabrese and Fox is an absolute necessity. And Rabasa probably has to move back inside as well.

Idk I honestly think he can play there. He is very physical and seems to do a good job sifting through traffic to make big tackles when I watch these highlights. Check them out. There seems to be some highlights where he is playing in the middle and does a pretty solid job. Obviously he would take a year or two to bulk up but I think he would fit there.

I've never really thought Danny Football could play ILB...but others have said it on here. So I'm kind of with you on that. I do, however, think Randolph could play inside. Honestly, if it's AA, Deeb, or whomever, I think the chance of him getting on the field is slim to none in '13 anyway. There's Grace, Moore, Schmidt, probably one of Fox/Calabrese, and then Deeb as well. That guy (whether it's AA, IS, Mattingly, or Randolph) is providing depth, for intents and purposes. Say it's Randolph (for argument sake), if the coaches like him there, but don't love him there, they could move him to Dog or Cat or wherever they think he may have more of an impact in '14. And then bring in another 1 or 2 ILB's for depth and development in the '14 cycle.

I hadn't thought about Randolph at ILB, but that seems more realistic. With Schmidt as a preferred walk-on and Martini already committed for 2014, we should be fine.

I ran into Randolph in the bookstore, and he's definitely got the dimensions of an ILB in our scheme. He wasn't quite as tall as he's listed and is already built like a truck.

Very impressive, but kicking is more about consistency than hitting the occasional bomber. I'd definitely give the kid a look if I was looking for a kicker though.

I agree. Just found it amazing that someone in high school can kick the ball from that far. My high school, we didn't even kick extra points, because our kickers sucked.

At my high school we regularly kicked 200 yarders, but that was only when we were on the uphill side of the field. Field position was everything.

None of our kickers ever got scholarship offers strangely.

This was a West Virginia allusion for those geographically challenged.

I actually did have friends who played there.

Not your national powerhouse, but those guys could still be proud that they played college football.

To SCUMHATER: read more.

West Liberty Hilltoppers are in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Why some people are so anxious to try to one-up fellow IEers beggars my imagination.

What about looking at a kicker/punter?? There is a great kicker in Cincinnati at McNicholas High School named Pat DiSalvio. He just pass Kevin Huber (Bengals punter) in single season points. He is solid in all 3 kicking phases and seems to be getting better and better. Plus, he is a stud in the classroom. 3.9 GPA and 33 on ACT taking all honors classes. This kid needs to be looked at with Brindza being a junior next year. Lets get him recruited even if its a preferred walk on.

So what are we looking at:

Taurean Folston- #1 on the board at running back
Corey Clement- doesn't look like we are taking but you never know
Khalfani Muhammad- if we don't get Folston and still take a RB he is our guy
Laquan Treadwell- best available candidate
Juwaan Williams- not likely to take a 5th WR but keeping in contact
Al-Quadine Muhammad- most likely to be in this class of remaining prospects
Isaac Savaiinea- with Anzalone up in the air gotta think the staff is pushing
Cole Luke- if he wants in you take him
MacKensie Alexander- see Cole Luke
Priest Willis-see Alexander
Max Redfield- see Willis
LJ Moore- see Redfield

These are the guys I think the staff is most likely pursuing the hardest. The DB's, some a better shot than others but any you gotta take! That's just how I see things now and feel free to correct anything or just ridicule me if necessary!;)

If he is that good and is needed the staff will find him. Or if his coach thinks he is that good he shoukd send a video/stats.

Good list Yankee

I might add Demarcus Robinson to that list who although verballed to Clemson the staff still seems to be pursuing a la Treadwell.

Then there's the fall back option of Delano Hill, who if we strike out with the above DB's you've listed, would be under consideration.

As to the kicker:

1). this staff will already know about him;
2). you make personal contact with the recruiting coordinator --- you don't just randomly mail in film. Any known HS Coach will at least be given the courtesy of a phone conversation.
