I don't understand why people don't think we can get Tom Herman.
The way we get him is by being the first to offer and ponying up. Notre Dame is a top 5 job no matter what people say and coaches know it.
Herman is this go-round's version of Urban Meyer...except that there was never any tangible evidence to suggest TH would even be remotely interested in coming to ND (unlike UM) other than ND fans' delusions of grandeur.
Speaking of Michigan DCs. What's Greg Mattison up to these days? Serious question. I just don't see how BVG can ride out the season at this point.
Eighteen years as a HC prior to ND.
Three head coaching stops prior to ND.
Two Division II National Championships.
Two undefeated regular seasons.
Yeah, I'd say that's a better resume than Herman has to date.
Not saying that Herman isn't a good coach, but there are many examples of coaches who appear to be the next up and coming coaching genius only to crash and burn on a bigger stage.
IMO it isn't a top 5 job. If things go the way they are going right now ND behind USC and LSU openings.
One guy I would like to see is Ken Niumatalolo. Always does more with a lot less. Would be great to see what he could do with some athletes. Not sure he would leave the academy and I don't think the triple option could come with him, but I have always liked his style.
no thank you, turn ND into a gimmicky offense
You missed Girl's Softball which made 4. No italics.
Here in lies BK's problem, he has only been a head coach of meaningless programs besides Cincy but even that does him little good because he was never out on the road as a young assistant recruiting. He never cross pollinated. He never earned his wings. Tom Herman knows every coach and guidance counselor in the state of Texas after 20 years of recruiting the state.
There's a path the vast majority of coaches take. It's a recipe that works and can't be duplicated without the time on the street. I read a story about Earl Bruce firing his entire staff which included a yound DB coach named Nick Saban and they knew they fvcked up because Saban was the best recruiter and talent evaluator.
It's not in YOUR eyes. It's not in a lot of coaches eyes but it's a Top 1-2-3 dream job for a lot of other coaches. It only takes one guy to fill the seat and those seats are filled when the music stops.
I can promise you this, I know of a $1M+ P5 co-ordinator that would apply for the job tomorrow because it's his dream job but he'd never get it because ND will only hire HC's... so I doubt he'd even interview for it.
Wonder if Bill O'Brien would be interested?
Good luck with that and I'm serious also too !John Gruden, and I'm serious.
and with that being said he seems to get the most out of the players that he has with the triple option and that offense has run up a ton of yardage on damn'er EVERYBODY!!!!!. I believe he could be even more creative with better athletes that we have here. You say gimmicky, I say best suited to the personnel he has. I doubt he would run the triple option anywhere but where he is now.

there would have to major things go wrong to fire BK
Bill Cowher is only 59, and has been out of coaching long enough now that maybe he has forgotten how miserable a life it is?
He would cost $15m+ and one not put one second into recruiting and he would have a problem with football players being more than just football players hence why he would never become a college coach. How much would it cost to get Bill Belichick? Half serious I guess.
I agree a 100%.My biggest gripe with BK is his body language. He looks mentally checked out before kickoff each game, and has aged worse than Bill Clinton did as president during his tenure here. Now is the time to stop being such a cantankerous sourpuss and positively light a fire. The players need to be excited to make plays, not scared to make mistakes
